Today Reed found out that the seventh of next month I'll officially almost be an adult. That is, I'll be seventeen. Already he's making a big deal out of it even though I wish he wouldn't; final exams begin in May and I have to be studying real hard and I haven't the time to be thinking about a birthday celebration.

"Oh, c'mon Reena." He says as we walk pass the many different faces into the school. "It'll be your first birthday with me, and our baby."

I sigh and repeat what I have been saying since he found out, "Max, I have to study."

He steps in front of me but when I don't, he walks backway. "No one is saying you should stop, but you must can find a few hours to celebrate."

I stop then and look at him, he's looking at me in a way that makes me wish we were alone so I could enjoy it even more. "Reed, who are we going to celebrate it with? I don't have any friends."

He gives me this hurt look and rests his hand over his heart, as if wounded. "I'm your friend, and so is Sheldon."

I roll my eyes and try not to smile. "Can't you two just wish me a happy birthday?"

"I don't think it can be that simple."

"And why not?"

"Because, " He moves closer and looks deep into my eyes, "I want us to celebrate it together. You're going to be my wife soon and the mother of my child. I want it to be special."

"Reed, every moment I'm with you is special, I really don't see how you can make that day any more special."

He arches a brow and gives me a wicked smile, "Bet?"

I laugh, "Fine. Just know that I don't like crowds."

His wicked smile turns to a grin, "That night you were at my party, there was a huge crowd." He pulls me into him and runs his hand along my neck and shoulder.

"I was drinking, so they were tolerable."

"Was I?" he asks and he moves his hand to my hair.

"Tolerable?" I ask and he nods. "You do know I was crushing on you for a while, way before that night?"

He stops and give me a surprised look, "You had a crush on me?"

I laugh at his expression and move off onwards to my class. "I swear you knew that."

Reed catches up to me and begins to interrogate me, "So why didn't you tell me?"

"You were in a relationship." I say but he continues.

"Yeah, but for more than six months I was single. Why didn't you tell me then?"

"C'mon, have you ever had a crush?" He looks at me and nod, "Then you must know how hard it is to talk to them much less tell them they're your crush."

"So, you liked me?"

"Yes Reed."

"What did you like about me?"

I stop and turn to look at him, "Since you must know, I've always admired how humble you were about being one of the popular kids. You weren't conceited or a bully and you didn't treat us regular folks like we were nobodies."

He gives me a small smile, "Continue."

I roll my eyes and walk off, "That's it."

"No, it isn't" He says beside me.

"So, you're not too bad on the eyes and you have a nice enough body." When I look at him he's smiling so wide his face looks like it hurts.

"Will you stop?"

He laughs, "I just can't believe I didn't know you had a crush on me."

"Reed, a lot of girls have a crush on you."

"Had, I'm yours now."

It's my turn to laugh, "That doesn't mean that they're going to stop crushing on you."

He shrugs, then his smile disappears as he suddenly becomes serious. "You know I'll never hurt you right?"

I pause and give him a long hard look, he stops too but doesn't look at me right away.

"I need you to know that. I could never hurt you, Reena." His voice has changed and when he turns to look at me I see something different in his eyes. "I might not be perfect, but I'll never give up on you or make you feel like you're not being loved or appreciated."

"Max." I say and hold his hand, "where is this coming from?"

He gives his head a sad shake, "I just don't want you thinking that ... " He trails off, "Look, I don't want you having any doubts about us."

I see how vulnerable he looks, and I think I know why he's saying all these things, "You think I'm not going to bother marrying you?"

His face grows slack and he looks down, "Not just marry Reena, what if you want to leave after?"

"Wait, you mean a divorce?" I ask and he looks up and nods. "Reed, honestly I never thought that I'd be here, pregnant and engaged, but I can tell you this, I am happy. I'm happy with you and I can't see that changing. Yes, we might have some disagreements but what relationship doesn't."

He takes a deep breath, "I just want us to be perfect."

"I know, but no relationship can be perfect."

He gives me this smile and holds my hand, "But we can try."

I return the smile and kiss him, "Yeah, we can try."

When the bell sounds, we break apart and I move up the stairs while he heads in another direction. When I get to the class, I shuffle to the window and start removing my books from my bag in preparation for my history class. It isn't until it's conclusion that I start thinking about all that Reed said, and how he looked when he said it.

The fear in his eyes makes me curious about what else he has on his mind. What else fears does he think about at night or early in the morning? How prepared is he about us being married?

As far as I can see, I think he has a lot of things figured out. Reed knows how to communicate and I love that above all else because I know that's important in keeping a relationship going. He isn't afraid to talk to me or tell me what is on his mind. He isn't afraid to get personal or emotional.

I know he loves me, it's obvious not only by his words but his actions. When I told, him I got pregnant he could have left, he could have decided he wanted nothing to do with me or the child but he stayed, and he's been there ever since. I appreciate him so much and I know for a fact that I'm in love with him.

The bell has sounded and everyone has pretty much left the classroom, as I'm putting away my books, Mr Neil, the history teacher speaks.

"Ms. Waters, I must say I didn't expect you to still be this impressive given your situation." He takes up his briefcase and folder filled with papers, "Some would have cracked after all this is your final term here, which will decide if you get that scholarship or not."

"I know sir," I say and he nods his head and smiles.

"You've been exceptional this term I must admit. Not a single assignment below an A."

I laugh a little, "I can't afford anything less sir."

He moves to the door, "Well, keep it up and do us proud." He looks back over his shoulder and looks at me from over his glasses.

"Thank you, sir."

He nods and leaves and after a few seconds, I follow.

I'm almost down the stairs when Sheldon comes running up to me, "Well, if it isn't my favourite pregnant girl."

"I'm the only one you know, so that doesn't really count."

He laughs, "Fair."

We make our way to the cafeteria and find a seat.

"How's the baby?" He asks and I tell him about how the baby is finally moving. I tell him Reed and his parents were pretty excited about it.

"Did it hurt?"

"Well not really, it sure isn't comfortable though."

He nods and gives me a weird funny look.

"What?" I ask and he looks around to make sure there isn't anyone close by.

He bends closer and whispers, "So is that all that happened this weekend?"

I stare at him before coughing to hide the smile that's fighting to make its way across my face. "It seems you have something to say."

He gives me a sly grin, "Didn't you get engaged, or is my source wrong?"

"Source?"

"You're ignoring the question."

"If Reed told you, then it must be true."

"Well then, congratulations." He gives me a professional handshake and I try not to laugh.

"What's so funny?" Reed's joined us and he sits down beside me and gives me a kiss.

"You told Sheldon?" I ask him.

"Of course, he told me, in fact, he told me before he proposed."

Reed looks at me and smile, before Sheldon continues, "He had to tell his best-man first, didn't he."?

"Best man, you?" I say and turn to Sheldon with a small smile.

Sheldon laughs, "C'mon Reena, who else could it be?"

I shrug. "I'm just saying."

Reed places his arm on my shoulder, "Glad that my best man and best friend are getting along, but I'm hungry." Sheldon gets up and he follows, "So what'll it be?"

"I'm feeling for meat and milk," I respond and he gives me this weird look.

"Not together Reed." I say laughing and he smiles, "I hoped not. Be right back." He says and walks off.

As I wait for them to return, I remove a small notebook from my bag and write,

March 18

Baby first kicks.

Reed proposed and now we're engaged to get married.

March 19

Found out Sheldon will be his best man, of course.

Finishing, I close the small notebook and return it to my bag with a smile.
