AN: First of all, I cannot believe y'all prefer the old cover over the newer ones I made. Like, how?
Anyway, true to my word, I kept the original design. I did, however, make a few changes as well. Hope you all like it. 😂😂

Krystina.

"How did things go last night?" Kyle asks me, as he and Savannah set the table for breakfast the next morning. "Do I need to beat anyone up?" He adds, shooting me a mischievous grin.

"Everything went fine, Kyle. You do not need to physically assault anyone on my behalf. At least not today." I joke back.

"So everything really went according to plan?' Sav asks.

She places a plate partially covered in scrambled eggs in front of me.

"Yeah. He came over, we all ate dinner together, they played a few games, and then we told him."

"Just like that?" she furrows her eyebrows and, stops for a moment.

"I mean, it wasn't that fast. Originally I was going to stretch the whole ordeal out for a few days. But it was hard to miss just how smitten Bryan was with Stephen. They clicked really well, especially after dinner. There wouldn't have been a point to drag it out unnecessarily. They're both "goo-goo-eyed" over each other. All is well." I tell her, digging into the food on my plate.

Kyle leaves out of the room to retrieve his newspapers from the mailbox, as Savannah starts to divvy out the pancakes she made.

I wait until I no longer hear his retreating footsteps before I speak.
"Did you do it?" I ask her in hushed whisper.

She checks to make sure Kyle is gone, looking around the corner, before responding. "The deed is done." She says, placing a nervous hand on her stomach.

Today is THE day.

At least for Sav.

She's finally going to tell Kyle that she is pregnant. I for one, am not sure how he's gone this long without noticing.

Yes, she's still in the early stages, but there have been some very obvious changes. Her boobs, for one, have grown a whole cup size. There's also, if she's not wearing loose fitted clothes, a very noticeable pudge in her abdominal area. You'd think that someone sliding into her every other night, would notice some changes in her body. Hmm.

But in Kyle's defense, he's a very nice guy. Such a nice guy, that he probably thought Sav's weight gain was due to her eating habits, and didn't want to say anything to hurt his wife's feelings.

No doubt the latter is true.

"Which ones did you get?" I ask her excitedly, turning around so I can see her better.

"Dad Magazine, Dads Adventure, Parent's, Dude, You're Gonna Be a Dad, and The Expectant Dads Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know." She replies, still tittering nervously.

Savannah, like other first time expectant moms, wants to surprise Kyle with the news. So, she bought a few books for expectant dads, and got him a few subscriptions to dad/parent magazines, where they await him in the mailbox.

Very clever if you ask me.

Kyle checks the mailbox every morning, and he reads through almost everything in the pile, even if his name isn't on it.

So, right at this very moment, he's most likely looking at the magazines in confusion, and trying to figure out why his name is on that package from amazon.

With the way Kyle's mind is set up, he probably thinks all the dad junk is stuff I ordered for Stephen. He's a "new dad" in his own right as well.

I chuckle aloud at the thought of it.

Not even a minute later, Kyle walks back into the kitchen. As I predicted, homeboy is befuddled.

Lost in Confusion, Like an Illusion.

He looks to me first, "Krys, did you order this stuff for Steph?' he asks, glancing down at the magazines and open box of books.

Deep down inside, he already knows the answer to that asinine question.

Why in the hell would I order Stephen anything? And if I did, why would I use Kyle's amazon account to do so?

Men and their logic.

"Nope." I tell him simply, before taking my plate and leaving out of the room.

This is a special moment for them. They deserve a bit of privacy, especially if Kyle's adorably sensitive ass is going to cry.

But not too much privacy, which is exactly why I take my plate and sit right outside the entrance to the kitchen waiting for the show to start.

I lean my head around the corner, just in time to see Kyle's mouth gape open.

He looks down at the books, then up at Sav who's standing against the counter with a hand on her belly, and a hopeful smile on her face.

He then, looks back down at the books, before, once again, looking to his wife.

And then it happens.

His lips tremble, and I know he's going to cry. Which, of course, means that I'm going to be a crying mess in a matter of minutes.

His eyes fill with tears as he chokes out his words. "You're pregnant?"

Sav nods, tears glimmering in her hazel eyes.

"That's why your boobs.....", He starts, pointing at her breasts.

Sav laughs, and sends him another nod, too emotional to speak.

And then, like a scene out of a cheesy romance movie, he runs to her, picks her up, and spins her in a circle, before planting a kiss on her lips.

At this point, I decide to move to the living room, and actually give them some privacy.

That's where Savannah finds me 30 minutes later. She flops onto the couch, and shoots me the widest grin I've ever seen.

I can't help but smile back at her, truly happy for my best friend.

She sighs blissfully, "Wow.", and laughs, looking down at her stomach.

"I'm so happy for you." I tell her. No one deserves this more than her. Someone who puts so much love into this world, deserves to reap it back tenfold.

"Thank you. I wish I could see you this happy." She says, raising her eyebrows dramatically.

I scoff, "Ah, Sav. Don't start." I throw a pillow at her.

"What?" She asks, in a fake hurt tone. "Is it wrong for me to want my best friend, my sister, to experience the same kind of happiness." She continues.

"You're a beautiful, successful young woman. You deserve a love life."

"I'm also a single mother, Savannah, or have you forgotten?" I retort with an eye roll.

"So?" She asks, as if that's not explanation enough.

"So, contrary to the belief that guys like to be called 'daddy', there aren't too many out there that are too keen on being a father to a child that is not biologically theirs."

"Ok. Then date a guy who's child that is biologically theirs." She says, scrunching up her eyebrows towards the end. "Wait. That didn't come out right." She shakes her head.

I take a deep breath, more than done with the conversion.

Unfortunately, Sav isn't.

"What I'm trying to say is, why don't you, ya known, consider maybe, possibly, rekindling that spark between you and Stephen." She says quickly, shrugging her shoulders in feigned nonchalance.

I stare at her in silent disbelief.

Did she really just go there?

"I mean," she continues, somehow unaware of the murderous glare I'm sending her way, "now that the truth has been revealed, there's not much holding you back."

"Sav, Stephen and I have been over for five years. We're completely different people at this point. Besides, you don't even know if he's seeing someone or not."

Now, she stares at me in disbelief. She's quiet for a while, looking deep in thought, before she speaks. "You know,"she starts with a nostalgic smile, "I always thought you and Steph were destined for each other. Whenever you guys were together, it felt like an otherworldly energy was in the room. You guys were my legit relationship goals. I wanted someone who looked at me the way Stephen looked at you. And I wanted to love someone as much as you obviously loved him. You guys were magic, Krys. Are you really telling me that you haven't even given a thought. That you're not even willing to give a love like that another try."

I swallow, unable to find words. She painted a pretty vivid and accurate picture of mine and Stephen's former relationship.

It was more than magical. It was a fairytale come to life. But it's been tainted with bad memories and sorrowful feelings.

How could I be with someone who's father hated me so much, that he went through so much trouble just to keep me away from his son?

How could I expose Bryan to an environment like that?

I'll admit that my feelings for Stephen never disappeared. I don't think it's possible to completely remove someone that you created life with, out of your heart.

So yeah, my feelings for Steph are still somewhat there, but sometimes that isn't enough.

Sometimes love isn't enough.
