"That's easy for you to say," I huffed at Wren's comment, rolling my eyes simultaneously. "You have a girlfriend. You're in a relationship. Of course it's simple for you to find a date."

The girl snickered, amused by my serious struggle of finding someone to attend Slughorn's Christmas party with. "It's not funny," I insisted.

"It is," She laughed, her eyebrows raised. "What about Draco?"

"Not a chance." My voice sounded serious. Serious enough for Wren to falter in her laughter, and instead shoot me a concerned glance.

I never told her about mine and his last conversation. Apart from the fact I didn't think it was necessary, I was quite embarrassed about it.

Someone begging me to stay away from them was a first.

"Okay, uh-" Wren knew inquiring further wouldn't get her anyway. I assumed she was willing to wait until I came to her in my own time and told her about whatever happened.

Maybe I would.

Her eyes roamed the common room, and inevitably fell on Blaise. "-What about Blaise then? I'm surprised he didn't ask you already." An amused grin found itself on her lips again, and she quirked an eyebrow at her suggestion, her eyes still on the boy.

"And then what? I'm supposed to just go over there and-" Wren interrupted me before I could finish the thought.

"Merlin, Y/n. You're making this so much harder for yourself," She sighed, a hint of annoyance in her voice. "Blaise!" She called out, making my eyes widen, a horrified look on my face as she waved him over.

What followed must have been the most awkward interaction I ever had.

His head snapped into out direction, his brows furrowed as he walked over to us and took a seat next to my best friend with a confused expression on his face.

"Are you going to Slughorn's Christmas party with anyone yet?" She asked bluntly, a bored expression on her face.

By now, I was leaned back into the couch as far as I could, my head buried in my hand, and my body slouched over in hopes I would just disappear.

"No, actually. I haven't asked anyone yet," He said, the confusion prominent in his voice as he tried to figure out what she wanted.

"Great. Well, Y/n doesn't have anyone, either," She explained with a shrug.

"Please, just shut. up." I muttered under my breath, knowing Wren could hear me just fine.

"Well, I was going to ask her-"

At that, I sat up straight, leaning forward to look at him, a confused look on my face.

"You were?" Both Wren and I said at the same time, though Wren sounded excited. Meanwhile, I was just utterly confused.

"Perfect," Wren added, flashing both of us a bright smile before getting up and leaving without another word.

"I'm sorry about that," I said quickly, scratching the back of my neck awkwardly.

"Well, it all worked out for the better, didn't it?" He laughed, tilting his head slightly. I nodded.

"I guess it did."

"Smile!" A bright flash caught my attention before I had the chance to smile, and I hoped the picture taken would never show up anywhere. Ever.

Blaise and I stepped further into the large room, our arms linked.

"Did I mention you look great tonight?" He asked, a charming smile on his lips and an eyebrow raised.

"A few times," I mumbled, taking my arm out of his to brush over the black fabric of my dress with a small blush on my cheeks.

The dress was shorter this time, ending just above my knees, with small, golden flowers embroidered all over it. "Thanks. Like I said, you look pretty decent yourself," I grinned, nudging his side with my elbow.

He was wearing a black suit, one that reminded me of the one Draco always wore. I didn't think he pulled off just quite like the blonde.

A smile formed on my lips at my thoughts, though I quickly rid myself off them. I don't think I should be thinking about Draco while I was here with his best friend.

We haven't exchanged anything but wary glances since our last conversation. And even those were rare, as I barely saw him, at all.

"I'm gonna get us a drink," Blaise suggested, my attention fully on him again. I nodded, a grateful smile on my lips, and he disappeared into the opposite direction after.

As soon as he did, I turned on my heels, scanning the room for familiar faces. I furrowed my brows when they fell on Hermione; Cormac right by her side and I made my way over to her. She did seem in desperate need of a rescue mission, so I decided to do just that.

"Hermione," I smiled as soon as I was close enough, and she turned towards me. Her horrified expression quickly turned into one of hope, and she forcefully threw her arms around me. "Excuse us, Cormac," I nodded in his direction.

The boy's eyes flickered up to the mistletoe above them, and then he nodded. He tried to hide his annoyed expression with a polite smile but failed miserably at it.

"What on earth were you thinking?" I hissed as soon as I had escorted her away from him, though there was a hint of amusement in my voice. "You should've just listened to me."

She sighed, leaning against the wall behind her. "I know!" She stressed, her eyes closed, and her head shaking slightly. "I just thought it would annoy Ron the most," She admitted afterwards, a guilty tone in her voice.

"Well, you're probably right about that one, but-" I interrupted myself when I saw Cormac searching the room, probably looking for his date. Before his eyes darted into our direction, I quickly pulled Hermione's with me as I ducked in-between the crowd, resulting in both of us crouching between the dozens of students.

It must have been an amusing sight.

I looked around the room for a better place to hide, deciding that a spot behind the curtains would do for now. Once more, I dragged Hermione with me by her arm, only straightening my posture once the thin curtain shielded us.

"Thanks," She huffed, a grateful smile on her lips.

"Hermione, Y/n, what are you doing here?" Harry's voice startled me slightly, but my brother couldn't have come at a better moment.

"Harry!" I smiled. "Who are you here with?" I asked curiously, eyebrows raised.

"Nobody, I thought I'd meet you all here, anyway," He shrugged, though I could tell he was embarrassed by it.

"You should've asked Romilda Vain. I heard she fancies you-" I began, but Hermione interrupted me quickly.

"She's only interested in him because he's the chosen one," She exclaimed, shaking her head in disapproval. Harry rolled his eyes as if he heard her say that a hundred times already.

"Well, he is the chosen one," I chuckled, and Hermione groaned annoyed. Harry nodded vigorously.

"See, I told you, Hermione," He grumbled, just as annoyed now that he found someone who agreed with him when it was already too late.

"Anyway," I said, amused by the situation. "I'm going to find Wren and Luna. I haven't seen them yet," I explained quickly before I stepped out from behind the curtain. "Just stay with Hermione, please. Merlin knows what's gonna happen if she's left alone with that boy again."

Hermione nodded in agreement, looking at Harry with pleading eyes who just looked back and forth between the two of us. Then, he turned towards his friend completely, and when she started to tell him about Cormac, I left.

I wandered around the nicely decorated room, eyes wide open to find my best friend and her girlfriend in the midst of the rest of the students. So far, I had no luck.

"There you are!" A familiar voice said, and I turned around to face Blaise with a smile on my face.

He held two drinks in his hand, seemingly glad to have found me.

"I'm so sorry, I was looking for Wren," I admitted, feeling a little guilty for just leaving him by himself.

"It's alright, don't worry." He gave me one of the two glasses, and we clinked them before each taking a sip. "To an evening we'll never forget," He cheered, and I nodded with an amused snicker.

"Yes. To that."
