At the mini golf centre, the three of them walked into the building to find Jada, Kelan and Briella already at the front desk, paying and retrieving six clubs and golf balls.

Briella skipped over to them and handed Renna an orange club and a green ball before passing the boys a club and ball each of different colours. They each took a score card and a small pencil offered by the happy bald guy behind the counter.

With everyone ready, they walked out the open roller door that lead them back outside into the sunlight and onto the first hole.

Briella jumped to the start first and placed the purple ball on the ground. She stood to the side, took a second to line it up and tapped it in a straight line. Everyone, standing along the edge of the short course, watched it as it passed them and rolled towards the hole.

"Yes. Yes!" Briella chanted as it moved closer. "Yes! Yes! No!"

The ball touched the edge of the hole, but rolled right past it to hit the back curb. It took her two more tries to get it in the hole.

Jada showed her up with a hole in one, but Briella was able to brag when it took Kelan four shots before it stopped jumping the hole.

Renna cheered after a hole in one and high-fived Jada. Levi took two shots and Jensen high-fived Jada and Renna after his single shot.

They moved onto the next hole. The same straight-shot as the first, but with a bump in the middle to get over.

Kelan sent them all into a fit of laughter as he tried to hit the ball over the hill but never hit it hard it enough to get it over. Seven shots later he sunk it and they calmed down. Jensen restarted the laughter when—not wanting to repeat Kelan's mistake—he whacked it hard and the red ball landed in the garden behind the hole.

At the fifth hole, everyone started to struggle. Jada and Briella both sunk their ball after eight shots. Kelan took ten shots. Jensen needed eleven shots. Renna had the most with twelve shots. They all stood with their jaws on the floor when Levi fluked it and got near the hole in three shots.

Lined up for the forth shot, he would really have to screw up not to get it in. He tapped the ball, and it rolled towards the hole.

Renna panicked. She had been hoping for Levi to surpass her score of twelve.

As it neared the hole, Renna threw her club onto the ground, between the ball and the hole. The ball bounced off it and rolled away.

Levi looked up at her, shock in his eyes, his arms up. "What the hell was that?"

Renna smiled and bit her lip. "I don't know. I panicked."

"That's called cheating." He picked the club up and tossed it in the garden at her feet.

"I wanted to help you get more points."

Taking his golf ball, he placed it where it had been. "That doesn't count." He lined up the shot again. "If I get this, then I get to write four shots."

Renna retrieved her club, but she was too late to do it again.

The ball rolled. Everyone waited, knowing it would drop in.

At the last second, a club flew in, hitting away the ball at the edge of the hole. Levi flicked his glare up to a grinning Jensen.

"Sorry. It slipped."

Levi flicked him the middle finger before he threw his club at his feet. He moved fast, picking up his ball and placing it in the same spot a second time. Without wasting time lining it up, he gave Renna a quick look, warning her not to do anything, and hit it.

Renna threw her club at the same time everyone else did. All but Jensen, still picking his club up. The four clubs blocked the ball from getting near.

Cursing at them all, Levi picked up his ball, dropped in the hole, and picked it up again. He pointed his club at Renna. "Write four on my scoresheet."

Renna, holding onto his scoresheet for him, pulled it up. "You got it." Holding it up in front of her face, she pretended to write. "Four...teen."

He snatched the sheet and the pencil from her and wrote a four.

Renna laughed.

While they retrieved their clubs, he and Jensen made their way to the next hole. Jensen laughed. Levi shoved him.
