Chapter 77

A white ceiling in a dull room was the only thing Judy could see as she lay in bed, her eyes blinking whilst she lay there surrounded by darkness and her husband's arm wrapped around her, holding onto her and the baby she held inside her. To others, to anyone who could possibly walk into her room right now, she would look peaceful, content even but she was bursting on the inside.

Her imagination, her thoughts where running wild, a bright light shining through her mind, navigating through the memories of her children she could only relive in the corners of her head, but she wondered most of all which memories she would be able to create with the baby in her stomach.

Her hand wrapped around Douglas', a small sigh leaving his lips which fanned onto her cheekbone from their close proximity, he was content as he slept, dreaming about something unknown to Judy but she simply just couldn't sleep, she was unable to let her mind rest as the machines in her brain turned wildly, seeking out memories for her to relive as she lay there facing up to the ceiling in the comfortable bed in the middle of the room.

The clock beside her read four, and she hadn't been up for long, rather she woke up after a restless night of tossing in turning, and so she decided there was no point in trying to sleep when her mind was so awake, so she allowed her brain to take over, allowed for the pains in her stomach to slip to the back of her mind as she relived the memories of her children.

"Adria!" Benji giggled wildly, his head throwing back and a bright blue ball almost too heavy for his tiny, chubby hands to hold, "Adria come on!"

"Benji watch out!" Adria gasped, and suddenly Benji was on the ground, but not once did he stop laughing, and soon he turned to be pounced on by Adria who was laughing just the same, "I tricked you!" she giggled, holding up the hot pink bouncy ball which she managed to whack him with.

A faint smile fell on Judy's lips at the memory of her twins, shaking her head as she done so she allowed the sea of memories to take over her again, thinking back to the time Alfie met Alina.

"I don't want another one!" Alfie screeched, a frown on his lips when the little child clasped in his mother's arms started to cry softly at the loudness of his voice, "look at it, all it does is cry!"

"Alfie," Douglas warned, although the amusement shown through the man's face at his oldest child's reluctance to another sibling, "she really wants to meet you."

"No, she doesn't, all she is doing is crying!" the boy pouted, folding his arms over his chest as he done so, "she hates me!"

"She does not," Judy laughed softly, leaning over to take her boy's hand, slowly guiding him over to the child nestled into her arms, "Look at her, Alf, she wants her big brother."

Alfie was frowning, but he was entranced by the blue eyes his sister held. He leaned forward, reaching out his small hand for the younger to take, and soon did her little fingers wrap tightly around one of his, sending a soft gasp to bubble from his lips.

"She wants you, Alfie," Douglas laughed softly, "would you like to hold her?"

"No!" he exclaimed, keeping his voice soft and his eyes on the baby in front of him, "I-I don't want to drop her."

"Here, sit with mummy," Douglas smiled, "I'll help you."

A sigh left Judy's lips at the world she once lived, the world she was blinded by, where witches and wizards did not exist, and magic was just a tale for children, but here she was, living in her beautiful home with her beautiful husband and four beautiful children, all two of which were witches, and she loved them more than she ever could anything else.

"Mummy!" Adria screeched, her hands clenched to fists and her teddies hovering around her, a new gesture she had picked up whenever she was angry. Judy rushed to the room, her skirt flowing in the breeze, just like her hair, and when she saw the teddies, she couldn't help but feel fear flash in her eyes.

"W-What is it, baby girl?" asked Judy, inching closer to her daughter who stood amongst the teddies with Alfie by her side, his eyes shining with fascination as he looked over the teddies in the room.

"Alfie hit me," she pouted, completely oblivious to the oddness of the situation she had unknowingly started, "he pushed me!"

"I did not!" Alfie squealed, shaking his head furiously, "I just tapped her, I swear I didn't hit her!" he cried, pulling his sisters arm and hugging her tightly, showing their mother, and Adria that he really didn't mean to hurt her, "I didn't mean to, I really didn't!" he pouted.

"Adria," Judy whispered, eying the teddies that had floated to the ground, "A-Alfie didn't mean to hurt you, baby, do you accept his apology?"

"I guess," she frowned, wrapping her arms tightly around the older boy, "I love you, Alfie, even though you're a little grumpy."

"You think I'm grumpy?" he gasped, looking down at his giggling sister whose head rested on the boy's chest clad in a striped t-shirt.

"Yes!" she nodded, "but you've always been a grump, Alfie, but I love you for it!"

Judy shook her head at the memory, attempting to supress her laugh that almost escaped her lips as she turned to face her husband whose arms she lay in. she loved her children with more love than she had for anyone else, of course, with the exception of her husband who was her soulmate, she loved her fully family equally.

"Benji!" Alina cried, pushing the boy away as he laughed wildly, "don't do that, tell him Adria, tell him to stop!"

Adria looked from her place with Alfie, where the both of them sat in the small pool in the back garden, laughs erupting from their lips when they looked over to where Alina and Benji sat together, "Mummy!" Alina screeched, her cries muffled when Benji clasped his hand over her lips.

"Don't call for mummy, Alina, it's just a joke," Benji frowned, unsure as to why the ice cream that rested atop of Alina's head was such a big deal.

"Benjamin Hopkins!" Douglas exclaimed, wide eyed when he entered the backyard, moving to the side where their mother stood, "I assume you saw the whole thing."

"I did," Judy giggled, unsure if it was a terrible thing to laugh at her daughter, even if she looked incredibly adorable with the ice cream rested upon her head, "come on, baby let's get you cleaned up," the woman sighed, picking up her daughter who pouted, burying her head into the crook of Judy's neck.

"Sort him out, Dougie," Judy whispered to her husband, kissing his cheek as she done so with another giggle escaping her lips.

Judy's eyes glistened when she thought back over her memories with her children, only a few had stuck out to her, but for the most part she was sure she didn't have enough time in the world to relive the amount they had all been through. Her eyes filled with tears, all of which were caused by her pregnant hormones, an excuse she really had to stop using as her pregnancy was coming to an end, but when that was, she didn't know.

The woman gasped when she felt a larger pain filling her stomach, making her cringe whilst she clutched it, she hadn't noticed just how painful it was until she allowed herself to think of it. She hadn't thought of labour since a few nights ago, when the pain filled her stomach, but she was sure it was just mild stomach aches, but now was a different story.

So, when she felt something around her, a wetness of the sort, she finally came to the realisation that her water had in fact broke, and here she was, still staring at the white ceiling above her, although her eyes had widened just that little bit more and her hand was frantically pushing Douglas beside her.

"Judy?" he groaned, a sigh leaving his lips and his eyes fluttering open when he saw his wife beside him, her eyes wider than usual and her hand still pushing him, "Judy what's wrong?!"

"My water," she whispered, "my water has just broke!"

"Oh!" he gasped, eyes wider than hers as he frantically jumped from the bed, all sleepiness leaving him whilst he frantically rushed to her side of the bed, his arm wrapping around her neck and the other around her legs as he lifted her up, helping her to stand on her own two feet until he moved to rush around the room, "the bag, where's the bag?!" he exclaimed, thinking of the bag he had packed and unpacked so many times.

"I don't know, Doug, where did you last put it?" Judy laughed softly, leaning against the bed as she pulled on her slippers, she didn't care all that much about going to the hospital with her pyjamas on, nor did she care about going to the hospital at all, they had been through this plenty of times, so much that she thought Douglas' rushing was a little extravagant.

"I don't know!" he exclaimed, rummaging through their wardrobe until he pulled out a bag which was not filled with essentials they would need for the hospital, but was in fact, empty, "oh my god, I unpacked it!" he screeched, earning a look from his wife who would rather not wake up six frantic kids in their home.

"Douglas, calm down, It's okay," the woman laughed softly, a reassuring smile on her lips as she pulled the stuff from their small chair and set it on the bed for him, the stuff commonly known as the essentials they would need for their trip to the hospitals, "woah, oh my," Judy gasped, clutching her stomach when a contraction seeped through her stomach, sending pain throbbing through her.

"Judy," Douglas spoke, throwing everything on the bed to reach her quickly, he placed his arm around her waist, taking her hand which she didn't second think to grab as tightly as she could, "hey now, it's alright, it's okay," Douglas whispered in her ear, guiding her down to sit on the bed until he was ready.

"I'm alright, Doug," Judy smiled, feeling a wave of nausea taking over her.

-

"Doctor, I need a doctor!" Douglas exclaimed loudly as he made his way into the hospital, Judy clutched in his arms whilst he carried her bridal style and the bag which was now packed for the last time swinging from his shoulder. Seeing as Alfie was in the house, and Adria who was a little more responsible, as surprising as it was to see, the two thought that it would be okay to leave them until they awoken, and Douglas had made specific instructions not to come to the hospital until a call was made allowing them too, "My wife is in labour!"

It took all of ten minutes for Judy to be sat in a wheelchair, the handles clutched by a young nurse and Douglas standing by her side with her hand clutched in his. The woman felt rather dizzy, her head falling onto her shoulder and a wave of sleepiness taking over her whilst she allowed the young nurse to roll her to the maternity ward.

"When did her water break?" asked the young nurse as Judy now lay unconscious on the bed, her mouth parted as she slept contently, and the hospital quilt draping over her.

"This morning," Douglas mumbled, unable to keep his eyes off of his wife, "around four."

"Right," the nurse nodded, making sure to ask a few general questions before she left the room. Douglas breathed a sigh, pulling up a chair beside the bed and reaching for Judy's hand as he done so.

He watched as her eyes moved slightly, the long length of her eyelashes shielding her eyes from the outside world and a sigh of content leaving her lips whilst she slept peacefully. He knew he was a little too frantic, but he simply couldn't help himself. Judy was the love of his life, and anything that could remotely put her into any sort of pain was sure to bring him pain, too.

"Go back to sleep," Douglas whispered when Judy's eyes fluttered open a few hours later, and not only was he staring at her beauty the full time, but he couldn't help the excitement of a new child of his being brought into the world.

"I'd rather talk to you," Judy yawned, reaching over to caress her Husband's cheek, "I can't believe we are doing this again," she laughed softly, shaking her head and trying to blink away the sleepiness from her drooping eyes.

"I can't either," he mumbled, leaning against her hand which emitted warmth, just like she did, "but I'm so glad we are, so, so glad."

"Me too," she nodded, "what would you prefer?" she giggled, referring to the gender of their new child.

"I wouldn't mind, either, it makes no difference to me," Douglas sighed contently, "I would love them all the same."

"As would I," Judy giggled, "I guess having a girl would be lovely, as I always loved dressing up the girls in their little dresses, of course, that didn't stop Benji wanting a dress too, I'd say he looked lovely."

"He did," Douglas commented, a laugh escaping his lips whilst he nodded.

"But a boy would be lovely too, we have two of each right now, it's hard to think of which I'd want because I really wouldn't mind." Judy sighed, her smile widening when she looked over at her husband beside her.

"I love you," he whispered, "so much, Judith Felicity Price Hopkins."

"I love you too, Douglas Hopkins, from the day I met you, I knew you'd be the man I married," she mumbled, "although that doesn't mean I made it easy for you, did it?"

"No," he laughed softly, "but I never really did give up on you, Judy, I wouldn't ever, and I couldn't ever give up on you, can you remember what I always used to say to you?"

"About my maiden name?" she asked, earning a nod as the memory filled her thoughts, "I was worth too much for a boy like you, but you weren't going to stop saving up, you'd pay the price."

"I was tempted to pay your dad," Douglas joked, shaking his head with a chuckle.

"Oh man," Judy groaned, clutching her stomach as a contraction filled with pain seeped through her body. She didn't want to admit to Douglas on how excruciating it was, nor had she felt pain like this before, but she was sure she just wasn't used to it anymore. She hadn't given birth in eleven years, and from her perspective that was a very long time, "oh I'm getting old," she sighed, shaking her head softly as she allowed Douglas to take her hands, a concerned look struck across his face.

"How so?" he asked, his voice wary and barely above a whisper.

"Because I can never remember it being so painful," she laughed, a little croaky and her eyes drooping with sleepiness the pain managed to cause, "I'm okay, Douglas, really."

"I'm going to get the doctor just in case," the man sighed, pushing himself up whilst she shook her head.

"No-" she didn't even think to finish her sentence as she let out a sigh, seeing as he was already out the door before she could attempt to protest.

"Mrs Hopkins!" The young nurse from before smiled, "it's nice to see you awake, how are you feeling?"

"Alright," Judy nodded, "although I'm sure my husband told you of the pain I just had a few moments ago."

"He did," the girl nodded, "I thought you'd like to discuss with me in private the pain you are feeling, so now he has gone to get coffee."

Judy laughed softly, nodding her head, "he tends to get a little concerned for me."

"It's nice to see that," the girl sighed, squeezing Judy's hand before looking down at the board in her lap, "some husbands don't even show up."

"You're kidding?!" Judy gasped, wide eyed at the thought. Douglas was by her side for all of their children, and that's the way she thought it would be with every couple, it was just as much Douglas' child as it was hers and she couldn't even fathom what it would be like to do it all on her own.

"No," the girl shook her head, "they phone, sometimes we will get a call saying they're busy or something, and I suppose work is an issue as some can't afford to take time off, but there was one man who was down the pub when his wife went into labour, and his wife was a lovely woman, smiling widely through the pain, and the man just didn't even care at all."

"Oh, I'm going to pay that man a visit when I get out of here," Judy grumbled, shaking her head angrily at the thought, the last thing anyone expecting a child would need is their partner unavailable to them.

"You aren't paying anyone a visit, you're going to rest," Douglas laughed as he entered the room, a coffee in his hand and bags drooping his eyelids.

"Mr Hopkins, if it's not much of a bother, could you wait outside?" asked the nurse, a kind smile on her lips whilst Judy sent him a small nod of reassurance which reluctantly sent him outside, "how is the pain, Mrs Hopkins."

"Please call me Judy," she sighed, "I've always thought that Mrs Hopkins was all too formal, and the pain, well it's definitely there, I can feel it, but I remember that vaguely from my last pregnancy. The contractions, though, oh wow I've never felt anything like that before."

"Thank you," the nurse nodded, writing down the information's, "It's just for medicine complications," she smiled, pushing herself up from the chair she sat in before exiting the room after bidding Judy goodbye.

"Is everything alright?" asked Douglas.

"Yes, I think she was wondering just how extreme the pain was," Judy waved him off, "it's really nothing."

-

"This can't be nothing, Judy!" Douglas exclaims as he gripped her shoulders, begging her to stop crying as she gripped her stomach. The sun had risen fully in the sky and it must've been past noon when Judy started screaming, unable to help herself when the blinding pain erupted in the pit of her stomach. She was crying with worry she didn't want to share, and trying her best to hear Douglas' pleads, but it was all too much for her.

"I need a Doctor!" Douglas roared, his voice so loud that Judy could feel her ear ringing, but it was the least of her problems for now, she didn't care about that. She cared about her baby, she cared about the life inside of her and she was sure that any minute now would that life be pushed out of her, all she could do was wait.

Douglas was terrified as he held onto her, unable to let go of her as she screamed in pain. Her head rested on his shoulder as she squealed, her eyes filled with tears that already streamed down her face. He, like his wife, didn't want to admit the terror crawling around his body, sending a shiver up his spine when he heard Judy's voice crack with pain. He couldn't help but admit that he had never seen her like this before, the birth of Alina, their last child was eleven years ago, almost twelve but even he couldn't deny that she had ever been like this before. Her pain was half of this, well drastically less anyway, and not once during them all did she scream so loudly.

"Mr Hopkins!" The doctor entered the room, and whilst Douglas turned to look at him did he feel Judy's head fall from his shoulder. He didn't care at that point, he screamed her name, watching as her eyes fluttered open and closed, and soon did they close, the pain getting too much for her to bare that she simply passed out to let it run its course.

"I-I don't know what's wrong!" Douglas exclaimed, slowly letting go of Judy before he rushed to the doctor, "Help her, please help my wife!"

The doctor's eyes go wide when he see's Judy on the bed, and attempting to keep himself calm he clutches Douglas, "you need to leave now, Sir," he tries to respect him in the best way possible but the love shielding Douglas' eyes was enough for the Doctor to know that he wouldn't leave without a
