Chapter 40

The quidditch game brought a large amount of happiness amongst the Gryffindor's, everyone seemed a lot keener to talk to Adria now that she had won them the first game of the season, and whilst she was still rather shy when it came to people, the praise was always enjoyable.

Her legs rested over James as she read in the common room whilst his eyes lingered on something behind her, something she couldn't see. Her hair fell in front of her face, and occasionally she could hear Remus laughing from the arm chair, and when she looked up, he was laughing at her.

"Why are you laughing at me?" she exclaimed with a laugh of her own, finally having enough as she looked up from her book.

"Your reactions to the book, Ads," he scoffed, his eyebrow raised as he nudged his head in the direction of the book resting on her lap, "Hilarious is all."

"I'm glad my pain is bringing you happiness," she grumbled, sitting the book down beside her and lying on her back atop of the sofa. It was Saturday and whilst the three of them suggested going to Hogsmeade, the weather didn't seem all that good to venture out of the castle, so instead, they decided that staying indoors, and having a warmer day by the fire may be the best thing to do.

"Bloody hell James, what are you looking at?" asked Adria, who had caught him plenty of times whenever Remus laughed at her, she turned her head, her eyes widening slightly when the only other person in the common room, sat at a desk on her own, with her work things sprawled out in front of her and a look of concentration on her face was, Lily.

"I'm, I'm not looking at anything, Ads, w-what?" he stuttered over his words, his gaze moving from Lily to the fire in front, whilst Remus and her shared a look.

"You like Lily, don't you?!" she squealed, keeping her tone hushed so that Lily wouldn't hear, James shook his head furiously, but her grin widened when the faint sight of a blush tinged his face, "Who'd think James Potter, the Gryffindor chaser and all around popular boy would be blushing over fancying a girl."

"She's not just a girl, Ads!" He huffed, Adria clasped her hand over her mouth to stop from giggling.

"Well, James, she is a girl," Adria smirked, "she's also my best friend, which kind of makes me obligated to tell her."

"Don't you dare!" James exclaimed, wide eyed as he grabbed hold of her to stop her, resulting in more giggles falling from her mouth.

"I thought you didn't like her, James, what's the big deal?" she teased, her head titled slightly to the side as he narrowed his eyes, "so defensive."

"Oh shut up," he grumbled, "maybe I like her, a little bit."

"Well I thought you hated her," Remus piped in, laughing slightly whilst Adria nodded.

"Yeah what happened to that?" asked Adria whilst James merely shrugged.

"I never hated her, she hates me." He mumbled.

"Yeah because you bully her best friend," Adria chuckled as if it was obvious, which It was, if he just stopped teasing Severus then there wouldn't be much of a problem.

"I don't bully him," James spoke, rolling his eyes whilst Remus nodded his head in agreement, "it's just pranks, and he's just as bad!"

"You rule him out, victimise him and humiliate him," Adria laughed, "and don't get me wrong, I don't like him myself, and honestly, I don't think he's too keen on me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to think of pranks just to wind him up."

"It's harmless, Ads," James attempted to reassure her, and whilst she didn't exactly agree, she nodded her head anyway, because she'd rather just agree than argue with him.

"Now if you'll excuse me boys, I'm going to talk to Lily, not about you being in love with her or anything of the sort," she smirked, patting his head whilst he grumbled under his breath.

"What was that?" she turned as she stood up, "sorry I can't hear you over the wedding bells."

"Speaking of wedding bells," James' frown turned into a smirk when he realised he could tease her just as much, "where is your husband?"

She rolled her eyes, giving him a look as she walked away, making sure to grab her book from the small table, "now why do you look so sad?" Adria pouted jokingly, taking the seat next to Lily who mumbled frantically, as though Adria could hear her.

"You're gonna have to slow down a bit," Adria scoffed, patting Lily's shoulder who let out a sigh.

"I'm trying to do homework but I just can't concentrate!" she exclaimed, her hands finding her red hair whilst her eyes widened at the amount of homework she had.

"Why haven't you done it before now, Lils?" asked Adria, her eyebrow raised as Lily usually done her homework the day she got it.

"I don't know, I thought maybe I could just wait, see how things went, but now I'm just stressing out completely!" her head almost fell on the desk until Adria placed her hand out, resulting in her head resting in Adria's hand, who couldn't hold her laughter in.

"Lily, you have today and tomorrow, and Potions isn't due in until Thursday which gives you most of the week. I'm sure arithmacy isn't that bad, and care of magical creatures is fine, too, just take one of the subjects and work on it today, and then do one tomorrow, and then one the day after. You're not going to get anything done if you're going to sit here and stress."

"But I have so much more than just this," she groaned, "there's divination too, and history of magic and astrology!"

"Well do Arithmacy and Divination today, History of Magic and Care of Magical Creatures tomorrow and Potions and Astrology the day after, take it bit by bit Lils!" Adria laughed, sorting out the mass amount of paper sprawled across the small table.

"Adria can I talk to you?" she turned at the sound of Sirius' voice, seeing him with a frown on his face and his hand on her shoulder, she nodded with a frown of her own.

"I'll be back soon, Lily," she chuckled, standing and following Sirius where he lead her up the stairs to the boy's dormitory.

"Sorry, I just wanted some privacy," he grumbled, leaning over her to close the door whilst she stood completely confused.

"What wrong, Sirius, are you oka-"

"Why didn't you tell me you where dating Milo?" he cut her off, turning to face her with a look she had never seen before. Her eyes widened and for a second she was speechless until she burst into a fit of laughter, "I'm serious, Adria!"

"I already know your name," he glared at her attempt of the terrible pun, his hands clenched at his side he couldn't believe she was laughing. He was terribly jealous, and he couldn't help himself when the Ravenclaw told him as he walked down the hall. All happiness he had that day was washed away and replaced with the gut wrenching feeling of jealousy that pulsed through his veins.

"You know what I meant," he huffed, rolling his eyes. Adria's eyes trailed around the dormitory, unable to look Sirius in the eyes seeing as he was so mad, she just didn't understand it. There was no way that she would date Milo, for starters she only had eyes for the boy in front of her whose behaviour was just odd, and then there was also the fact that Milo didn't like girls, and whilst she couldn't deny that Milo was good looking, like she said, she only ever liked one boy, and it was Sirius.

"Why are you acting like this, Sirius?" asked Adria, a feeling bubbling in her stomach that maybe, just maybe he was jealous. Hope glimmered as she took a step closer to him, resulting in him backing up, which caused her to stop.

"I just-" he stopped himself from saying the wrong thing, he couldn't just come right out and say oh hey Adria, I fancy you and I'm just filled with jealousy, she'd think he was mental, "I wanted to uh, congratulate you?"

"Congratulate me?" she repeated, her hope shattered and her shoulders slumping, "so you make a big deal, you want privacy and you act as though it was the worst thing in the world because you wanted to congratulate me?" she didn't mean the harshness to her tone, and she felt rather guilty after words, being completely honest.

"Well, y-yeah, we're friends, right, that's what they do," Sirius shrugged, "congratulate each other, and all."

"Yeah, friends," she nodded, feeling sadness bubbling in her stomach, "for a minute, I- I uh, thought you where jealous."

"What, me? Jealous of you and Milo? As if!" he laughed, shaking his head furiously whilst Adria bit her lip, closing her eyes to blink away the tears welling, "why would I be jealous?"

"You're right, why would you be," Adria whispered, shrugging her shoulders whilst she let out a forced laugh, mostly in disbelief that she would actually think herself that Sirius could possibly like her, "and if you must know, me and Milo are just friends, I thought I made that clear when I laughed."

"What- so you're not dating him?!" Sirius asked, eyes wide as he looked at her, noticing the look on her face and her glassy eyes which made him move closer to her until she was just in front of him.

"No, I don't like him like that, Sirius," she sighed, shaking her head, her gaze on the floor instead of Sirius who was awfully close to her.

Sirius was silent whilst he looked at her, a frown on his lips as he thought of what to do. He had never noticed the small freckles that dotted over her cheeks, or the long length of her eyelashes that fluttered when her gaze moved from the floor to take in the room they stood in, her hair fell around her in small ringlets that Sirius loved, and she never failed to take his breath away.

He couldn't shake the feelings he had from her, no matter how hard he tried or how many girls he talked to, they just weren't her and when he was informed that she was taken it managed to crush his heart so painfully that the only emotions he felt where anger and jealousy as well as sadness, he couldn't help the pain that bubbled in his stomach, or the rapid feeling of sadness that made his heart beat faster. He needed to act on his feelings, as much as it terrified him to lose her, he needed her, he needed to touch her, to take her hand and call her his own because that privelage wouldn't last forever, someone would come along and make her laugh and be able to take her hand and call her their own if he didn't do it first.

So, when he raised his hand to lift her chin, his thumb grazing her lip as he tilted her head to look at him, he was almost certain he could hear her breath hitch. His gaze trailed to her lips, plump and tinted pink he loved the look of them, he watched as she took the skin of her lip between her teeth nervously, something that drove him crazy.

"Hey we where going to get food, do you two wanna co-" James stopped talking when he saw them, his eyes wide as he realised he had just interrupted something. Adria closed her eyes, annoyance seeping through her as she turned to look at James with a glare, just like what Sirius done, "y'know what, I'll just- I'll be downstairs!"

Adria breathed a sigh when James left the room, her heart pounding in her chest and a blush spread over her cheeks that she couldn't help, Sirius' hand had fell from her face and they had jumped apart. Adria smiled faintly at Sirius, "we should maybe uh, join them?"

"Yes, uh yeah- we should," Sirius nodded, stumbling over words as he watched Adria walk to the door. She was walking slowly, her shoulders heaving as she waited on Sirius to catch up.

He walked forward from his place in the room, he wouldn't let her slip through his fingers like that, so he grabbed her arm and turned her to face him abrubtly, allowing her to fall into his arms he wrapped his arm around her waist tightly whilst he noticed her eyes widen.

"Sirius," she breathed out, her heart beating much faster than it was previously, "what are y-"

"Shut up," he groaned, leaning closer to her until a second later their lips touched, and Adria couldn't help but feel her knees go weak as her hands trailed over Sirius, one rested on his neck, using her hand to pull him closer after the few moments of shock and one travelled to his hair which was softer than she had ever felt.

Their lips moved together in perfect motion, their eyes closed and hearts beating frantically. Sirius' grip around her waist tightened as they stood there and his other hand found her cheek as he savoured every moment of their kiss, which he attempted to deepen when his tongue swept over her bottom lip. Her lips parted, granting Sirius access and whilst this was her first kiss, she would have no problem practicing multiple times with Sirius.

Her eyes fluttered open when Sirius pulled away reluctantly after what felt like far less time than she wanted, both of them where begging for air, and his forehead pressed against her, "you don't know how long I've wanted to do that, Hopkins," he breathed out, panting slightly whilst the small smile on Adria's lips widened.

"You've had no idea how long I've wanted you to do that, Black."
