Will I find my lover in the lakes?
A shining moon that passes by
A cyclone that wanders around recklessly
If love truly is blind,
then maybe I can find
my lover in the sound of a cellphone chime,
in the scent of old journals,
in the heat of the summer, in Monopoly money
in the buzz of an airplane as it drifts right above me
Tell me, honey, if I crossed your name out of my list of potentials,
Will you forgive me?
Because I no longer see you as someone I can go back to
You looked too perfect
it always concerned me
how love can deceive you
when you look with your eyes.
Your books and poetry read too much like odes
I should have spoken them out loud to hear all the elegies
You always said you were writing about me
I should've felt you were writing about us
If love truly is blind,
then you no longer deceive me
Because, for my next lover, I know not to find
I know not to focus on the glitter of the lake
I will close my eyes and wait
And feel the breeze on me
I will close my eyes and wait
And smell the fresh grass
I will close my eyes and wait
And taste the salt air
I will close my eyes and wait
For someone to find me there
