After the office meeting was over, Maya decided to behave. She didn't have much of a choice and she wasn't looking forward to the next conversation at Salvatore's office.

As she entered the room the pair of four eyes welcomed her.

"That's her? You, what's your name?"

"Maya. My name is Maya"

"Hello, Maya it's nice to meet you. My name is Gianni this is my twin brother Simon" the boy called Simon waved at Maya and she shyly waved back "The one which looks like someone pissed in his cereals is Diego"

"No one did but I will piss in yours if you won't shut up," Diego said and send his brother a warning glare.

"The bored looking one is Alessio" Gianni continued as he pretended he didn't see his older brother threat.

"Alright so the introduction is over, I'm off," Alessio said, took his book, and went out of the room while not sparing Maya a glance.

"You must be tired I will take you to your room" Simon offered and Maya nodded with relief. So far it was difficult to speak about any of her brothers all she knew is that she was surrounded by strange, older males and the mere thought of it was making her uneasy. She just wanted, for a moment at least to forget where she is and what happened in recent days. Sleep was a good idea.

"Thank you and goodnight" Maya expressed her gratitude as Simon pointed at the white door at the bed of the corridor.

"Goodnight Maya" Simon smiled kindly "if you need anything my room is right there " he pointed at the door next to hers and Maya nodded in acknowledgment.

As she entered the room she let herself fell in awe for a bit. The room was huge. All the furniture looked like well-preserved antiques with beautiful carvings on the wood, her bed would fit at least three people there was no need for it to be this huge.

As she fell on the sheets it felt like she's on the fluffy cloud, the fresh sheets had a nice flowery scent that lulled her to sleep in no time.

The next day she woke up early and she decided to go to the kitchen to get a glass of water. There were already people in there and they were arguing.

"She's not one of us Salvatore should've just left her there. She doesn't belong here"

"Don't let Salvatore hear you" Alessio said in a much quieter voice but not denying the claim.

Simon was sitting quietly and eating his meal.

Maya was about to turn around and leave when she hit something hard, someone.

"I'm sorry"

"It's okay" Gianni smiled at her and grabbed her arm "are you hungry?" She wasn't but she let Gianni guide her to the kitchen.

Alessio was drinking a coffee while doing something on his phone, Diego was consuming impressive amounts of frittata the housekeeper have prepared for them, Gianni took an example from an older brother and started eating an ungodly amount of food he put on his plate meanwhile Simone seemed to be already finished with eating but was staying in the kitchen and reading a book as he was waiting for something.

Diego sends a hostile glance as Maya entered the kitchen and she shivered.

"N-not hungry" Maya responded to Gianni while trying to ignore Diego behavior "I would just like something do drink"

This peaked Simon's attention who looked at her the moment she mentioned food.

"You should eat something, breakfast is the most important meal of the day" he lectured.

"Oh, and you should try the croissants they're made by our housekeeper ms. Latini delicious" Gianni pointed at freshly baked bread and Maya couldn't help herself, she picked up the croissant. The moment she tasted it, she was in heaven.

So delicious.

As Salvatore entered the kitchen everyone seemed to straighten up. Alessio put the phone into his pocket, Diego slowed down with eating the food, Gianni looked up from his plate, Simone put his book away.

"Good morning" Salvatore greeted everyone and he was met with polite greetings from his four brothers and sister.

What seemed to be a peaceful silence at the beginning of the day was disrupted by unforgiving Maya's phone ring, she almost jumped out of her seat as she checked the caller.

Oh, Jim was back from the trip.

"Who's calling you?" Salvatore asked and Maya instead of answering went out of the kitchen.

Now, this has left the rest of the company confused, did that little girl just ignored Salvatore? People don't just ignore the boss.

"Told you she doesn't fucking belong here," Diego said under his nose as Salvatore left the kitchen.

"Hi Maya listens last time we saw each other I messed up," he said. No sorry was uttered as always.

"Okay," Maya said curtly. What did he want her to say?

"Do you know where your mother is? She's not picking up the phone, she's not in the house and Nina is not picking up my phone calls"

"Check Roxborough Memorial Hospital," she said and she hanged upon him.

As she turned away to come back to the kitchen Salvatore was standing at the doorway listening to what she's saying with arms crossed over his chest.

"When I ask you a question I want you to answer me" he growled.

"It's none of your business with whom I am talking to"

There was a loud cough in the kitchen as Gianni just choked on his food. Everyone has been listening to the battle Salvatore vs Maya and it was obvious that there would be only one winner.

"I see in that case I need you to give me your phone"

"What?" Maya took a step back.

He wasn't looking like he's joking. Maya was unsure what to do.

"But I need to stay in contact with Nina"

"If you need to make a call you ask me, it's simple"

"But why"

"Because I asked you who is calling and you didn't give me the answer. When I ask you to answer is that clear?" He explained

"What if I don't give you the phone?"

Salvatore smiled, he smiled.

It was the first time she saw him smile.

This smile could only mean one thing: he accepted the challenge.
