WEEKS LATER

Arnell was in the kitchen making breakfast when she heard someone knocking on the door. She walked over to answer it. "Hey!" Arnell sang while hugging her friend.

"I didn't know if this was the right apartment number. I was about to call you." Maggie laughed. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her. "Damn. I can't believe this is the first time I've been over here." She took off her jacket and hung it up on the coat rack.

"I know, I'm sorry. I've been so busy." Arnell told her. All Arnell did lately was work. Nothing else. Sleep. Work. Get paid.

"I've been a lonely ass bitch at school, you know I don't fuck with nobody." Maggie stated. "I miss you." She frowned.

Arnell decided to finish high school online. Since she had most of her credits, it wouldn't take too long. Arnell knew she would miss prom and walking across the stage at graduation, but she did what she thought was best for her. She couldn't stand being at that school anymore.

The girls continued talking as they walked into the kitchen.
"We should go out and do somethin' after breakfast." Arnell suggested. She hadn't really been out lately.

"Yeah. Okay." Maggie nodded. She took a piece of bacon off of the plate Arnell had it sitting on and ate it.

After Arnell finished cooking, she made their plates. It was the first time the two of them sat down and talked in forever. Maggie explained to Arnell how Jay asked her to prom and showed her her prom dress. It was beautiful, and Maggie looked beautiful in it.

"So, where are we goin'?" Maggie asked while placing her plate in the sink.

"Um, you pick." Arnell insisted. She downed the rest of her orange juice before placing the cup in the sink.

"How about we go downtown." She suggested. "They got this block party  thing goin' on all day."

Arnell nodded. The girls got ready and walked downstairs to Arnell's car. "When'd  you get a car?" Maggie asked buckling up her seatbelt.

"It's just a rental." Arnell stated. "But, I plan on gettin' my own soon." She slid the key into the ignition. She was able to just save up her money because Damitri was paying everything off for the next three months. The only thing she spent her money on was food, gas, and things around the house.

"Stop it." Maggie pouted.

"Stop what?" Arnell asked. She noticed that Maggie seemed a little upset.

"Stop growin' up on me."

Arnell chuckled a little. "Aw, Mags." Arnell replied. "I love you, too."

The drive there was annoying. Traffic was crazy, but that's usually how it was downtown. Arnell found a parking spot a couple of blocks away from where the event was.

They hadn't even been there for ten minutes before Arnell was ready to go. Arnell wouldn't have agreed to going if she knew that it would involve so much walking. Her feet were killing her. It was hot as hell and people were bumping into her which would piss her off.

"Relax, Nell." Maggie stated sensing Arnell's attitude. "You hungry?" She added.

"Not really, we just ate." Arnell said with her hand on her forehead to shade her eyes. She left her sunglasses in the car, but it was too far away to go back and get them.

"Two words." Maggie smiled. "Funnel Cake."

"Oooh, get me one, please." Arnell begged while clapping. She could make room for it.

Maggie busted out laughing. Her laughter quickly disappeared as her eyes shot passed Arnell. "Maybe we should go somewhere else."

Arnell turned around to see what she was staring at. It was Damitri. He had his arm wrapped around some girl. Arnell shook her head. "Mag, we don't have to leave because of him." Arnell told her. She did have to admit, seeing him made her miss him like crazy.

"Can I get you two ladies somethin' to drink." Some guy asked snapping Arnell out of her trance. He was staring directly at her. He was really cute, but Arnell wasn't interested nor in the mood. He wasn't the first guy to try to get at her, either. Several others came over just like him and were shot down.

"Nope, we good." Maggie replied.

"Thanks for the offer." Arnell fake smiled before shooting another glance Damitri's way. The guy nodded and walked away.

Arnell quickly looked away when Damitri caught her staring at him. He didn't look too happy about her presence there.

"Come on, let's go get our funnel cakes." Maggie said while linking arms with Arnell.

"What the hell you doin' here?" Damitri asked walking up behind the girls. Arnell cut her eyes at him. He had some nerve asking questions when he still had his arm wrapped around that girl.

"Havin' fun." She told him. The girl he was with smiled at her and Maggie. Arnell smiled back even though she wanted to throat punch the bitch. She didn't want to let him know that she was feeling some type of way.

"You need to be at home. All these niggas out here lookin' at you." He told her.

"Okaaaay, that's really none of your concern." Arnell shot back. She wasn't even trying to talk to anyone, but even if she was, Damitri wasn't in any position to tell her shit.

"Nells, don't fuckin' play with me." He warned.

"Who playin? All I wanted to do was hang out with Maggie and you're ruining it."

"If you wanna hang out, go do it at Build-A-Bear or somethin'. Don't do it here." He said getting a little too close to her face.

"Build-A-Bear?" Arnell repeated while slightly pushing him back. "Nigga, how old do you think I am, five?"

"We broke up because you didn't want no 'drama'. But that's exactly what you gon get if you keep entertainin' niggas."

"What niggas!?"

"Bye, Nells." He said walking off with the girl. "Go home!" He called.

"Let's just go." Maggie said. Arnell rolled her eyes. They were there for two whole seconds.

"Not before I get my funnel cake." She mumbled.

Arnell was at the concession stand when she glanced across the street and saw Dorian. He had Jada under one arm and Tasia under the other. He whispered something in Tasia's ear before kissing her. Arnell cringed as Jada stood and watched.

Some guy passing by accidentally stepped on Dorian's shoe. "My bad bro." The guy apologized.

"Aye, man. Look what the fuck you did to my shoe!" Dorian yelled.

"I said 'I'm sorry', aight?" He said trying to walk away. Dorian pushed him back.

"Get on yo fuckin' knees and clean it!" Dorian ordered.

"Nigga, what?"

Dorian took out his gun. "I said clean it!" He yelled while pistol whipping the guy. He hit him repeatedly and didn't stop until the guy was on the ground unconscious. Nobody intervened, they just stood there and watched.

Damitri ran over to break it up. "Get off of him, man!" He said as he pulled Dorian away. "What the hell you think you doing pistol whippin' a nigga in broad daylight!?"

"Shut the fuck up, Meech. This ain't got shit to do with you." Dorian boldly said while pushing Damitri. Damitri punched him dead in the jaw and he fell to the ground. Damitri stood over him and was going to hit him again when Tasia walked over and slapped him in the face.

"Get off of him!" Tasia yelled.

"Go somewhere, bitch." Damitri said before shoving Tasia to the ground. She was shocked.

"You gon wish you never did that!" She yelled. Jada helped her up. Her hands were all scraped up from the fall.

"Whatever, bitch. You crazy." Damitri shot back. He picked Dorian's gun off of the ground and stuck it in his pants. Everyone moved out of the way when Damitri walked away.

"Watch yo self , Meech!" Dorian called out. He was still on the ground with a bloody mouth.

"Man, fuck you." Damitri shouted back. He seen Arnell and furrowed his eyebrows at her. "What the hell you still doin' here?!" Damitri yelled while throwing his hands up.

"I'm goin', jeez." She said. She paid for her funnel cake and stormed off in the direction of the car. Arnell didn't say anything on the walk back.

"Sorry. This is all my fault." Maggie stated.

"It's fine, you didn't know he would be here." She stated as she started the car up.

"What are you doin' on Monday." Maggie asked.

"Working." Arnell stated.

"Ugh." Maggie groaned.

"I can pick you up and we can hang after." She felt bad for not being there for Maggie lately.

"Oh, God. Please?" She said. Arnell nodded her head.

"I need to run in the store right quick." Arnell said. She was suddenly craving chocolate. Arnell kept the car running as she jogged in the store to grab a few things. She was in the candy aisle when she heard someone walking up behind her.

"Tell your nigga to watch out." Tasia said coming towards Arnell. Jada was right behind her. Arnell didn't know what type of shit they were on if they were cool with fucking the same dude.

"Did you follow me here?" She asked her.

Tasia smiled and shrugged.

"I feel bad for you." Arnell laughed. "Do ya ankles hurt from jumpin' from one nigga to the next?"

"Bitch you ain't funny nor cute." Jada shot back with her arms crossed. Arnell shot her eyes to her. No, she wasn't getting smart like Arnell wouldn't drop her ass.

"I don't know why you jumpin' in the convo, yo ass be playin' leap dick too." Arnell said. Jada's mouth dropped. She wasn't expecting Arnell to say that.

"I do what I gotta do to protect myself. You'd do the same if Damitri dropped you like you were nothing." Tasia said with an attitude. "Oh, you think y'all are gonna last? So did every other girl he fucked over." Arnell wanted to cut the conversation short and just tell Tasia she wasn't even with Damitri anymore so she could shut the hell up.

"Girl, why are you tellin' me this? Ain't nobody wanna hear ya sob story." Arnell told her.

"Don't say that I didn't warn you." Tasia scoffed before strutting away. Jada followed behind her. Arnell rolled her eyes and continued to shop.

"Arnell?" Maggie called as she walked into the store. When she spotted her, she jogged over. "You okay? I saw Jada walking out lookin' suspect as fuck."

"I'm fine." Arnell assured her. "I just need to pay for my things and then we can go." Arnell said. Arnell pushed the thoughts into the back of her head. She knew that Tasia was just all talk. They left the store and made their way to Arnell's house. Arnell was not trying to entertain those hoes with the drama.
