I woke up to the sound of my alarm buzzing off on the dresser. I stretched out my hand to turn it off, knocking off some of my books in the process. The clock read 6:00, so it was time for me to get ready for school. Ugh...

I groaned before dragging myself out of bed and into the bathroom. I then proceeded to brush my teeth sleepily.

A few minutes later, I was in the shower, and the warm water cascading down my body helped chase away the sleep. Then I proceeded to dry myself off and pick an outfit for my first day at school. I looked through all my new clothing and decided to settle for a short pale pink dress, which was sleeveless. The neckline was made of lace, and it had a tiny belt in the middle. I put on a white jacket and wore my favorite sandals. Then stood in front of my mirror, deciding what to do with my hair.

Should I braid it, leave it down, or just it in a ponytail? I settled for only brushing and leaving it down in its long brown waves. I looked at the time and found it was a few minutes past seven. I hurriedly grabbed my backpack, which was already loaded with books, and then dashed downstairs. I was immediately welcomed by the delicious aroma of bacon and eggs. Hmm...yummy.

"Morning, mum." I cheerfully greeted while skipping into the kitchen. She was already dressed for work and setting the dining table.

"Morning, sweetie. Already set for school, I see."

"Yep," I answered and gave her a peck on the cheek. Dad walked in then, also dressed for work, and placed a kiss on my forehead.

"Morning, dad."

"Morning, sunshine."

Not long after, Jax walked in and joined us for breakfast. But unlike us, he wasn't all dressed up.

"Sweetie, let me drop you off at school." Mum offered.

"It's okay. Jax already offered to." I was the only one who didn't have a car in this house. And that was all because my dad said I had to be eighteen first, which was a few months from now.

I went out the door with my parents in tow. We were all ready to go.

"I hope you're all good?" Mum asked, and I nodded. "You have your timetable and locker number?"

"Yeah, mum. Now go!" I urged while she looked hesitant before driving off in her car. Dad already left while she was questioning me. She was always worried.

A few seconds later, Jax came out, casually dressed in a blue hoodie with faded jeans.

"Geez, it's freezing out here." He walked over to his blue Toyota while I hopped into the passenger's seat before he drove off.

Jax was a responsible driver. He doesn't speed to impress anyone, not even girls. But he wasn't slow either. He was just careful.

After thirty minutes, we arrived at my school, which was already packed with teenagers hustling and bustling into the school building.

"You ready, sis?" Jax asked as I hopped out of his car.

"Yeah." I noticed some students looking over at Jax in awe. I guess he was really popular in his time here, and he was handsome too. So I couldn't blame them. Even though he's looking like he just got out of bed, he still looked amazing with that dark brown messy hair of his and those sea-blue eyes.

"Call me when you're done to come pick you up."

"I will," I answered and walked closer to the school building, ignoring the curious eyes that were staring at me.

New girl got dropped off at school by former hot QB, Jaxon Kendall.

Now everybody's going to be talking about me on my first day. Fantastic. I just hoped they figure out the similarities between us and not think of us as a couple or something like that.

I walked through the double doors of the school building, and I'm immediately welcomed with the sights of students littering around the hallway, either talking in groups, angrily smashing their lockers close, or storming into classes.

I don't think everyone is happy about resuming school.

I searched for my locker and then dumped my backpack in it when I found it. Looking through my timetable for my first class, I found out I had English now. Am I going to get there?

A chick dressed in all black, with her nails painted in black and lips in purple, walked up to the locker beside mine. Okay, she clearly had no sense of fashion and didn't look too friendly either. I think she's a goth. I just had to try my luck with her.

"Uh...excuse me. Do you know by any chance, know where the English class is? I'm new here " I sent her a small smile while she eyed me with a bored expression.

She sighed. "Follow me." And I did. A few seconds later, we were in a classroom that was already half-filled. The chick abandoned me to go meet her friends, who were all dressed in the same manner as her, at the back row of the class. I went to go sit in the middle row and ignored the curious stares I got. A few minutes later, a middle-aged woman walked in and started to teach us English. I wrote down whatever I could get and made sure not to attract too much attention to myself.

***********

So far, I hadn't seen Ryan. Maybe that was a good thing. I still dreaded our meeting and played different scenarios in my head about our first meeting until I heard the bell go off. Everyone packed up their stuff and headed out.

I went through my timetable by my locker and found I had a free period now. What am I going to do with it? Maybe I should check out their library.

I was contemplating on what to do when I felt something in the air that I hadn't felt in a long time. A feeling I usually had whenever a special somebody was around but hadn't felt for four years now.

I swung around, pivoting on my feet, and my eyes came in contact with a particular set of brown eyes. And they were staring straight at me like with fire in them. I would know those sets of brown eyes anywhere, no matter how much his body changed. Damn, he looked different.

I had seen a few pictures of him on Jax's phone, but none did justice to his actual self. He was taller than I was now, and he now had muscles in all the right places. And that face which I once thought was cute looked so hot now. He was walking down the hallway dressed in blue jeans and a grey top, with a football jacket around his shoulders and his midnight black hair styled to perfection.

For a second, I forgot that we weren't friends anymore and that we hadn't talked for four years. And that when I tried to call, he hung me up, and never called back. I forgot all his actions and offered him a bright smile. But my smile was wiped off as he diverted his eyes and kept walking, completely ignoring me and walking over to a group of three girls. He swung his arm around a blonde and pecked her cheek.

I kept standing there dazed while staring at his rigid back as he whispered something into the blond's ears, and she giggled. For some reason, I could feel my heart twist painfully in my chest at that gesture. Did he not recognize me? Had I changed so much that he couldn't recognize me at first glance? Or had he just decided to ignore my existence?

I wanted to go over, tell him who I was, and hug his bulging biceps. But then I saw how he acted all lovey-dovey with the blond and instead wanted to ball my eyes out. So I turned around, asked a random student for directions to the restroom, and went on to lock myself in one of the cubicles.

I don't know why I felt like this. Like how I felt four years ago when he told me he didn't want to see me anymore. Like how I felt when he didn't even show up to say goodbye to me. How I felt when he hung up my call and decided to never call me again. Like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. Gosh, what was wrong with me? We were just friends, and obviously, he had moved on. So why did it hurt so much?

That girl might be his girlfriend or something like that. So why did I feel like pulling her hair out and smacking her with my books untill her face deformed?

I don't know how long I stayed in there until I heard some girls walk in, giggling like little girls. I decided then that it was time for me to leave. I walked out and found three girls fixing their makeup. Immediately, their attention diverted to me. I noticed then, that they were the three girls Ryan had gone to meet then. I was about to reach for the door when the blond stopped me.

"Where are you going, new girl?" She asked with a stupid smirk on her face. She looked like a bitch at that moment to me. Her blond hair long and wavy, her blue eyes sharp and bright, and her stupid face caked in makeup.

I ignored her and was about to step around her, but she followed my movements, with her two friends behind her, and a stupid smirk on her face.

"Can I help you?" I cocked an eyebrow at her.

"I noticed you're new here, so you don't know much yet. But that guy you were gawking at in the hallway is Ryan Adams. And he's my boyfriend. And if I ever see you close to him, I'll rip out your tongue." She threatened in a sickeningly sweet voice. I knew then that she was a real bitch. I was about to give her a piece of my mind when the door to the bathroom swung open, revealing a girl with short blonde hair. She was dressed in a cornflower colored top and dark pants on ankle boots. Damn, she looked hot in that. She had a nice figure to rock her outfit too, and for a second, I thought she came out of a fashion magazine.

"Oh, come on, Jenny. Don't go embarrassing yourself in front of the new kid. Your face caked in so much makeup is already embarrassing enough." The fashion magazine girl said to the bitch in front of me, who I now think her name is Jenny. I tried my possible best to swallow down my laughter, but obviously failed because Jenny glared at me, and she did not look too happy about the statement, as her face turned red.

"Shut up, Alex!" Jenny snapped.

"Or what? Gonna run over to your boyfriend to give you some candy?" Alex mockingly asked.

Jenny obviously had nothing to say, as she just gritted her teeth before staring back at me with eyes blazing in anger.

"Stay away from Ryan!" She stomped her foot like a child. Okay, what's this bitch's problem with me? I'm sure other girls were also looking or rather, gawking at him every single day. Does she go around doing this?

I watched her angrily stalk out the bathroom with her friends like minions. I then turned my attention to my savior.

"Thanks." I smiled at her.

"Ah, no need to mention it. Jenny's just a bitch who needed to be taught a lesson, and I've been waiting to do that since forever. So I got my chance now." We both walked out of the restroom and realized the hall was less crowded. Only a few people weren't in class.

"But if you really want to thank me, you could take me out to that restaurant opposite the school, and treat me to a nice meal. The school cafeteria has the worst food on Monday."

"Deal." I agreed.

"I'm Alex." She introduced herself.

"Samantha, but you can call me Sam."

"Wait, aren't you the new girl who got dropped off by Jaxon freaking Kendall!" She squealed the last part, and I couldn't help but smile.

"Yeah, but he's my brother though." I quickly explained.

"No way. That's awesome! Since you're new here, why don't I show you around." I gladly accepted her offer. We later found out that our time table was almost the same, but not totally.

Alex then introduced me to a friend of hers in the third period, as we also had the third period with her. Her name was Jane, and she was a sort of a nerd. But according to Alex, they were best friends because Jane was the only girl Alex could tolerate, and now me.

By lunchtime, Alex, Jane and I sat at the same table in the cafeteria. We listened to Jane blabber on about the teachers and how to get on their good sides. As I said, she was a nerd.

I was trying as much as possible to look interested in what she was saying when I looked up and saw Ryan walk into the cafeteria with some guys, which were probably his teammates and friends, as most had football jackets on. They all sauntered over to the table Jenny and her friends were, and I watched Ryan place a peck on that bitch's lips. I suddenly felt that familiar ache in my chest again.

"Don't tell me you have a crush on him too." I looked back at Alex, confused at what she meant. "I'm talking about Adams. I see the way you're looking at him." Alex added as my cheeks flushed at her statement.

Was that what this was, a crush? Do I really have a crush for my ex-best friend?

"N...no, it's not like that." I stuttered out. "I just know him...from before." I added. Alex stared at me unsure whether to believe me or not, then she just shrugged and continued eating her fries.

I looked back over at Ryan's table, and watched him chat and laugh away with his friends, as Jenny clung to his biceps, staking her claim.

I used to be his only friend. But now, I doubt he recognizes me, or worst still, does he even remember me. I could feel tears pooling in my eyes just by imagining that. I was still looking at him when he slightly turned and his brown eyes clashed with mine, taking me by surprise. I wanted to look away, but I couldn't. It was like he was holding my eyes captive, and trying to look deep into my soul. He had an expressionless mask on, making it hard to read him. And for a second, I watched that mask crumble, and I see an expression on his face, was that longing? But it was only for a second, and the mask was back up.

I watched Jenny use her hand to cup his jaw to face her so that she could kiss him, and I quickly look away. I looked back only to see Jenny smirk and throw a warning glare at me. I rolled my eyes and continue eating my lunch.

From the exchange I had with Ryan, one thing was certain. He recognized me alright, he just doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. And with that revelation, my heart broke further.
