Song for this Chapter: Must have been the wind by Alec Benjamin.

Emily

He stench of alcohol and sweats. I tried getting out of his hold and I stepped on his foot and he winced in pain. Heels do definitely help you, sometime.

"Let's go." I tell Aaliyah and Bloom as I pushed them out of the dance floor.
That drunk guy chased after us and when we knew we were out of his sight. We relaxed a bit.

"Heels works fine after all." I said trying to ease the tension.

"Are you seriously okay?" Bloom give me a concerning look. Her big eyes blinked at me a couple of times. She abandoned her glasses for lenses.

"Yea." I tried to laugh, but it turned out awkward.

"We are here." Bloom said giving me a hug and I tried not to cry.

I feel pathetic. I don't want to cry at situations like this. I'm suppose to be strong.

"What's wrong?" I heard Everett's voice and he made me looked at him. "Are you crying?" He asked.

"No." I said wiping my eyes with the back of my hands. "What are you doing here? I thought you had dinner plans?"

"It ended up early." He said pulling me close to him and looked me in the eyes. "What happened? I won't ask again."

"That guy over there was taking advantage of Emily. He was touching her." Bloom said and pointed to the guy who was making his way towards us with a grin on his face.

"Everett, buddy? You're here?" He said casually and Everett punched the guy on his face and I gasped and so did everyone else.

"There's a fight." Someone cheered.

"Everett." I said in horror, putting my hands on his arm. "Don't do it. It's not worth it."

"What was that for?" That guy asked as he looked at Everett like he didn't know Everett did that.

"You come near her or touch her again, I won't hold back and ruin you, for real." He threatened.

"I didn't know she was taken." He said. "Sorry, man."

"You better keep your hands to yourself and start respecting people's decisions." Everett said. "Now, f*ck off before I change my mind."

The guy scurried away, everyone's eyes was on us. "Do anyone want to start a fight with me, now?" Everett questioned and no one dared to answer. "If not, then f*cking mind your own business."

And that's how people went back to what they were doing.

"Do you want me to take you home?" He asked me.

"I'm fine." I said to him.

He seemed like he didn't trust me for a moment.

Evan showed up all of a sudden.

"Everything's cool?" He asked.

Everett whispered something on Evan's ear and said to Bloom and Aaliyah. "Emily and I will be right back. Stay with Evan."

And before I could object, he dragged me from the crowd and out of the house.

He seemed frustrated and before I could have said anything. He said:

"If you're planning to crack a joke at this moment, don't even try."

I shut my mouth.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Am I okay?" He asked. "What do you think? Do I look okay?"

"Why are you being so rude to me?" I asked quietly.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath and said, "I'm this close to going back and kicking his a*s."

"I'm fine." I said to him.

"I don't like the idea of him touching you or any other guy." He said. "It makes me angry. Very angry."

"Why?" I cocked my head to one side and looked at him curiously.

He give me a look like I've lost my mind.

"Did you drink tonight?" He asked.

"No." I said.

"That's why I didn't want you to be here tonight."

"I learnt my lesson." I said to him.

"What did you learn?" He asked.

"To wear heels for safety reasons." I cracked a joke and the look he give me made me pout a little.

"It's not funny." He said. "Heels are dangerous too. You can't run in heels and your heels can break while you're running and then you can fall and get hurt."

"I was just trying to lighten the mood." I said to him.

He pulled me for a hug and stroke my hair gently. "What should I do with you?"

"I don't know." I said to him liking his closeness. He smelled wonderful. There's the smell of Everett, mint and cologne.

This was the first time we were hugging and I didn't mind. It's comfortable, way too comfortable for my liking-it's like a protective hug.

I hugged him back and he sighed and kissed the top of my head.

"You smell wonderful." He said. "Vanilla is my favourite." He muttered the last sentence, quietly.

"You smell wonderful as well." I said.

We didn't let go of each other. I will admit it...I like his hug. It gives me a sense of security and belonging.

My parents never hugged me as a child, I always wondered what it would be like to hug someone- anyone, a friend, a lover, a stranger.

"I'm glad I'm here tonight." He said to me as he pulled himself back a little and looked at me.

"I'm glad you're here as well." I smiled. "How was dinner?"

"You sure do know how to ruin some moments." He said with a serious look on his face, but then he showed me his dimple smile and I know, he was joking. "It went awful like always." He sighed.

"It couldn't have been that bad." I said to him.

"Now that you're saying, yes. It didn't went that bad. I just kicked my brother's a*s during dinner and I'm glad I did it." He give me a smug look.

"You have a brother?"

"Two." He said. "They are worse than enemy."

I frowned at his choice of words for his siblings.

"They are older than me, but so immature." He scrunched his nose.

He never spoke to me about his family, he always avoided the topic about his family. His house didn't have a single picture of his family and I wondered if his family is as broken as mine?

We sat down on the stairs, he took off his coat and put it on my lap as I was wearing a dress. He's so polite and nice.

"Will you be alright?" I asked. He was wearing a long button up shirt with jeans and Tommy Hilfiger's shoes. I noticed his hair was gelled and brushed back, neatly.

"Give me some warm." He said putting his arm around me and I laughed a bit.

"Tell me about your family." I said to him.

"There's nothing much to talk about." He said moving his arm away and looked at the sky and I know how it feels, when you prefer talking about other things other than the subject, so I didn't push him anymore.

I put my head on his shoulder. "You look extremely handsome today." I said quietly and he laughed.

"Don't I always?" He asked and I moved away to look at him. His cockiness was better than him being quiet or angry.

"Other days, you look mediocre." I said with a straight face, and his mouth dropped open and I stood up to run.

"Take it back." He said as he chased after me.

I stuck my tongue out at him, he caught up with me in no time and he wrapped his arms around my waist and spun me around. I laughed and screamed,

"Stop."

He stopped after sometime, and I turned to look at him.

"Are you going to take it back?" He asked.

"No." I teased and he started tickling me and I laughed harder.

He was smiling, it was those rare smiles with dimples and I know he's happy at that moment.

"Okay, I take it back. You look handsome..."

And he stopped tickling me and I moved away from him.

"Occasionally." I giggled and he stepped forward. "I lied." I said quickly. "You're handsome and wonderful, Everett and I hope you will remember that, always."

I stood on my toes and wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist. He bend down a little and nuzzled against my neck.
