Why do I care about fear when my life is already a hell?

---------------

"Get out of my mouth. Please get out of my mouth."

For the tenth time, Amy rinsed her mouth with the mint-flavored mouth wash, but the stench of the kiss hasn't faded. Her heart skipped a beat, whenever she thought about the incident back at starbucks. Jake's cold and moist lips brushed against hers. They were not deep into it, but Amy's insides were completely melted like an icing melting all over a cake.

She looked at the bluish-green liquid in the bottle with disgust. She took a last gulp from the bottle and spit it as soon as it touched the tip of my tongue.

Reminder. Too much of Listerine involves the risk of throat inflammation.

Her throat had the taste of hydrochloric acid, after completing an entire bottle of Listerine. She disposed the bottle in the trash, and stripped herself for a shower.

Midnight showers give me an undisturbed sleep.

As the warm water touched Amy's skin, she tried to drown herself. She let her thoughts to flow like the uninterrupted flow of the shower. It was the only place where she had the privacy to contradict her thoughts. Except the rest rooms, every nook and corner of the mansion was under surveillance. Though it was for her safety, being watched round the clock was tiring. She must be always aware that Hayden or other psychiatrists of her hospital would be watching her life in a television.

For this reason, I preferred to shower four to five times in a day.

Earlier that day, she had an encounter with Iris, the drama queen. Iris was the pacifier of Amelia's emotions. Iris could even make people believe that she was the president of the United States. Amy used her to fog her memories, to make herself believe, she was something that she wasn't.

Amy was more of an uptight person, surrounded by a thick mist that hid her true identity. But for the past few days, her mind has been messed up. She was not able to think properly, or focus her attention on anything. She sensed her mind was sort of, getting excited for Jake's arrival.

I had been alone for too long, so I'm just finding it difficult to adjust with a new way of living.

Amy didn't know on what mind she made a one year contract with Jake. She was more of a roaming person. She never stayed in Brooklyn for more than six months in a year. To be exact, her alters didn't allow her to. But that year, everything was getting different. She voluntarily made a contract with Jake, Barbara nearly sold the mansion to Jake, Leo was getting closer to Jake, and Nick hesitated to harm Jake.

That was the thing Amy couldn't believe still. NICK HESITATED TO HARM JAKE. She watched the surveillance clip for more than hundred times just to make sure. First Nick had the tip of a knife on Jake's Adams apple. A slight prick over there, Jake would've been a dead meat. But he purposely stalled time and dragged the knife to Jake's collar bones. Even when he jabbed at the collar bones, Nick's face was scrunched up like he hesitated to do it. That was the only reason Amy wanted Jake to be her personal secretary.

Standing in the water for a long time, the wrinkles in Amy's skin intensified. She turned off the shower, but stood in the same place to enjoy the last few drops of warm water. She realized that it was pouring heavily outside only after the shower stopped. The thought of rain made her body shiver in cold. As she grabbed her towel, the light flickered.

Hurriedly, Amy wrapped the towel around her torso. She wasn't a fan of darkness. All the lights and electric appliances shut down in an instant, leaving Amy in pitch darkness. An unpleasant sensation crawled through her stomach and caught her throat. She screamed, like her life was depended on it. If the walls weren't soundproof, Amy was sure the NYPD would've been at her door step.

The darkness was rippling and the air around was quivering. In the coming January, Amy would be turning twenty seven, but she was still afraid of ghosts and other dark spirits when she was in the dark. Other days there would be at least moonlight to thaw the darkness but the rain clouds hid the moon. Amy closed her eyes, afraid of seeing something grotesque like in horror movies and used her sense of touch. Using the walls she found the restroom door and unlocked it.

Amy remembered throwing her mobile on the bed before leaving for shower. Running her hands through the wall, she reached the walk in closet. The bed was at the left side from the closet. Blindly she ran at the bed.

"Holy shit" Amy shrieked as her little toe got hit on the night stand and its nail got broken. Amy's heartbeat increased and she started to take in huge breaths through her mouth. She opened her eyes for the first time. Her room was dark like a black hole. She hopped towards the bed and slouched on it. Rummaging through the bed sheets, she felt a cold metal next to her wrist. She snagged it and turned on the torch.

Amy called Hayden as his number was on one in the speed dial. The ring died and passed on to voice mail.

Hayden was Amy's only thread of hope, so she sent a voice mail saying "Code red", which meant, she might change personality anytime then.

There was a sudden emergence of shrill whispers and moans, which sent shivers down Amy's spine. Amy was wearing just a towel around her torso. It made her limbs freeze. She pulled the bed spread and wrapped it around her body.

The room door creaked open. Amy recalled shutting it tightly before entering, so there was no chance that the wind might open it. Amy crawled behind in her bed.

Hayden please come soon

Amy didn't realize she reached the edge of the bed. She fell hard doing a somersault. She pressed her head to the floor. Her throat croaked as she saw a hand reaching out to her from underneath the bed. Amy's head felt dizzy on the somersault and she lost the sense of cognition. She tried to distance herself from the bed by sticking like a gum to the closet.

Out of nowhere, a shadow entered through the door. Amy gripped the closet handle tightly, till her knuckles turned white. Amidst the haze, she saw herself climbing into the closet and locking herself inside.

The closet was cold. Adding to it,she left the bedspread outside. She didn't dare to switch on her mobile, as the light might attract the things trying to attack her. Unfortunately the closet she climbed in turned out to be a accessory storage. The towel around Amy was the only thing preventing her from freezing to death.

But the towel might not stand a chance against the teeth-clattering cold for a long time. She was clumsy in a state of turmoil. It was then, she dared to take a risk. Amy switched on her mobile. The sudden light hurt her eyes.

Hayden was not a choice anymore. Apart from Hayden the next person Amelia could rely on was Dr Xavier, the chief psychiatrist at the Hamilton hospital. But he was a seventy year old man.How can she expect him to defend her from the blood-curdling creatures under her bed? She might scare the hell outta him.

So the only choice left was Jake. Before she could give a second thought to it, she was dialing Jake. The ring was going to end but no one seemed to attend the call. Amy clutched her towel tightly, hoping for someone to answer before the ring ended.

"Hello" said Jake politely

"Jake I'm scared, please help me" Amy cried in a hushed voice. Her face felt hot as tears made its way down her chin.

"Amelia? Is that you? What happened? Where are you?" tensed Jake

"Someone is in my bedroom. I'm going to die." Amy wailed. Only air made it's way from her mouth, but Jake understood what she was telling.

"Don't worry. Just hold on. I'll be there in a jiffy" said Jake

"Please don't hang up. Stay on line even if you don't talk" she pleaded

"As you say" replied Jake. Though the phone, Amy heard him opening a door.

"Jeanne. I'm going outside on a work. Don't stay on the tv for long. Go to sleep" Jake was talking to someone behind, which Amy heard through the call.

"It's raining. Where are you going now?" said the girl named Jeanne

"I'll come back soon. I'll take the key, so don't open the door for anyone" ordered Jake

"Okay. Take care. Don't get wet in the rain" said Jeanne

Then she heard Jake running though the rain and clicking open the door of a car.

"Amelia, what's the pin number of the main door?" asked Jake

"one-two-three-four" she replied

"Wow. So hard to remember"

"I wanted all of them to remember" said Amy. Her eye lids drooped and she could not prevent it from giving in for a long sleep.

"Who all?" said Jake, but she couldn't find consciousness to answer him.

***********

It was a movie night for the Turners. Since it was raining heavily outside, they decided to watch old movies in the deck. Jake picked Finding Nemo. Jeanne agreed with him, so they watched the movie on majority votes. Will agreed that the movie was evergreen. It was probably the ten thousandth time he was watching it, but still he couldn't get enough of it.

They were nearing the end. Nemo was flushed in the toilet and Marlin thought Nemo was dead! That scene made Will anxious. Disturbing their movie time was Jake's mobile. It kept ringing incessantly, but Jake was already sound asleep on the couch. Will peaked at the display and found the name 'Miss Cold stare'.

Those words immediately brought a person to Will's mind- Amelia Hamilton. That girl's looks were the coldest, passing shivers down the spine. But Will didn't understand why she introduced herself as Leo, and then as Amelia. First he thought whether she had BPD or something, but after her explanation he was cleared of it. He assumed that she introduces herself as Leo to strangers.

It was half past twelve in midnight. Amelia didn't seem like a person to disturb someone unless it was an emergency, so Will attended the call at the last ring. He was agitated on listening to her panic-stricken voice. It had pure horror, and Will could wager that she wasn't acting.

She didn't give him a chance to tell that she wasn't Jake. Will wasn't a pro in fighting like Jake. That day when he was getting beaten, Amelia was the one who saved him, keeping her life at stake so Will felt like it was his turn to return the favor.

He ordered Jeanne to go to sleep and bolted to the garage. He didn't mind about the speed limit and put a firm foot on the gas. Before he could blink, he reached the Hamilton Mansion.

Amelia didn't attend Will's call. He leaped to the main door and entered the lock number. The door clicked open. Amelia mentioned 'someone's in my bedroom' but where was that bedroom? The Mansion had two floors and two wings containing only rooms. Further there was no electricity, so Will had to search using his mobile torch.

He started from the west wing. Shouting Amelia's name throughout the corridor wasn't a good idea. It might alert the person trying to attack her. Will opened the doors one by one and examined inside. He tried five rooms, but in vain.

The sixth room was the last in the corridor. The door was open. Will was struck by the fresh scent of Listerine mouth wash and some expensive soap.

This must be the one

He searched inside the rest room, closet room and even under the bed. But she was not there. As he was leaving the room, he heard a bang in one of the closets. It came from the one on the other side of the bed.

Will walked towards the closet and held the handle. He didn't open it. If she was leaning on the door, she might fall on opening. But who was she scared of? There was no one in the room. She gave a deep cough from inside the closet.

The room was literally freezing. She must've caught a cold.

"Amelia" Will called mildly, so that he wouldn't startle her.

"Who is this?" croaked Amelia. Her throat seemed to be affected, as she found it difficult to talk.

"I'm Will. I'm going to open the door,so don't lean on it" he instructed. Will wasn't sure she heard it.

"Will I'm scared. It is cold. Why I'm wearing only a towel? I've become a Amysicle" said Amelia

She wasn't wearing anything? The situation explains it. She would've been scared of something after taking a bath, so she must've locked herself in the closet. God, she must've caught a pneumonia.

Using the mobile light, Will strode to the next closet and picked a warm fur coat.

"Amy I've turned off the light. I'm going to open the door" he said, and yanked the door without expecting a reply. She was leaning on the door but Will caught her before she could fall. Her body temperature nearly burned his hand. Will couldn't see anything in the dark. He wrapped the fur coat around her. The bed was only a foot away, so he lay her on it and pulled the blanket over.

Will turned on the light, after making sure she was fully covered. She was shaking badly inside the blanket. Her body temperature was climbing rapidly. Will opened the window to make the room cooler and reduce her body temperature. She kept coughing severely.

In the deep silence, the sound of a click made its way to the room from the main door, which made him jump on the bed. Who was the visitor in midnight? He also seems to know the password. Was it the 'someone in my bedroom' Amelia mentioned?

Will slipped his hand below Amy's pillow, expecting to find a gun. It was so cliché, but he found a stun gun. Shuffling footsteps made its way to Amy's room. He hid behind the door, ready to pounce on the impostor.

Will had his light off, but the burgular had his on which gave Will enough light. He entered the room and looked around. Will pounced on his back and held the stun gun to his neck. He decided to switch on the power after verifying.

"Who are you?" yelled Will

"Oh Jesus.Jake, is that you?" he screamed between his struggles, "for God's sake leave me man, I'm Hayden" Will dropped the gun on hearing the name. He turned the burgular around forcibly to look at his face. Will examined the guy's face with the light he had. Undoubtedly, he was the one. Will could tell right away, with those blond curls and calm blue eyes with a authoritative stare. He saw them everyday.

"Is there something on my face?" Hayden caught Will staring at him.

"Hayden Clark" said Will. Hayden's eyes widened and he lurched backward.

"How..How did you find?" he stammered.

"Why in the hell should I not recognize my own brother-in-law?" Will didn't mean to shout loud but it came out of his mouth in rage. Hayden yanked Will's wrist and turned it around.

"You won't find it there. I'm Will" Hayden was searching for a tattoo, hoping for Will to be Jake. He shoved Will's shoulder and paced out of the room. Will chased behind and held Hayden by his wrist.

"You came to help Amy right? Do your duty first. I won't ask anything" Will assured

"Is anyone out there? I'm scared" groaned Amy. Her voice was getting worse. Hayden obediently walked back to the room. Will sat at the couch, while Hayden examined Amy. He took a match from the night stand and lit the candle on it.

"Hey madman" smirked Amy

"Char.." he paused," Amy, I've asked you not to call me like that"

"And I've asked you not call me Amy" she retorted. Hayden glared at Will and quickly turned his head down.

Hayden examined her pulse, "She's afraid of the dark. So she gets hallucinations. She may blabber something, don't take it seriously"

"What did you find today? Conjuring? Evil dead?" he asked Amy

"It was a killer" said Amy with a live horror in her voice

"When did we change genres from horror to psychotic killer?" he snickered

"I can't see properly. Get me my glasses" requested Amy

"It's dark. No matter what, you can't see" sulked Hayden but eventually he fetched her glasses from the opposite night stand, "Go change into something. You'll get a pneumonia in this wet towel"

"Mad man you won't believe it" she said

"Hayden" he corrected

"Hayden you won't believe it. I can see Annabelle in the closet mirror. I won't go inside" she cried. Hayden snorted.

"Take the light and keep the door half open. I'll wait there" She was convinced. Hayden hoisted her by her shoulders and took her to the closet room. Amy went inside only after locking Hayden inside for two minutes and making sure he was alive after that.

"Are you there?" she asked while changing inside

"Yes" replied Hayden

"Are you there?"

"Yes"

"Are you there?"

"Yes"

"Are you there?"

"Yes" Will and Hayden replied chorusly. Amy came out in a sweatshirt and khaki shorts. Hayden helped her back to bed. He took a first aid box from the closet and gave medications.

"Sleep. You'll feel better tomorrow" Hayden kissed her forehead.

"Tell me a story" said Amy.

Hayden sighed, "Will, tell her a story" He grabbed a pillow from the bed and slept on the couch next to Will.

Being a dad of a seven year old, Will had lot of stories in stock. But he told a different story which he had never said to anyone.

"There was this beautiful princess in a castle" started Will

"Typical fairy tale" interrupted Amy

"No, mine is not" he retorted, "There was a beautiful princess in a castle. She had riches, jewels and many men sough after her. She had a younger brother who looked ugly like a goblin. He was a madman"

"Sounds like Hayden" chuckled Amy. Hayden sat up with a jerk.

"Exactly" agreed Will

"No, I get to be the prince charming" demanded Hayden

"Then you continue the story"

Hayden slept back on the couch. Will continued, "This princess went to a school. Many charming princes attended the school. But this princess liked a boy who was quiet and nerdy in the class. She didn't tell it to him. Whenever the boy was teased, the princess stood for him. Eventually, the boy liked the princess and they got married after many years. They had a beautiful girl child, who was as pretty as the princess"

"Lie. The child looked like the brother" snapped Hayden

"Do you know the story?" asked Amy

"No" frowned Hayden, "I just guessed"

Will wasn't sure he could continue the story after that, as there came the saddest part. He continued, for he wanted to clear the misunderstanding with Hayden.

"Then one day, the princess's dad, the king was ill. She left alone in a boat to her castle"

"Why didn't the prince accompany her?" asked Hayden. That was the reason Will lost contact with Hayden. He was mad at Will for not accompanying Selena.

"The prince fell from a horse and he was getting treated at a hospital. The princess didn't tell the prince that she was leaving to her father's castle" guilt tugged at the bottom of Will's stomach, "When the prince woke up, he heard the news that the princess's boat didn't make it. So he waited like a fool with his daughter expecting the princess to swim back to the shore"

Will saw Hayden's eyes glistening with tears.

"The end. Now go to sleep" said Hayden

"Goodnight Will, goodnight madman" said Amy

"Goodnight" they both replied at the same time. Amy turned to her side and closed her eyes.

Both of them were awake, and an awkward silence prevailed in the atmosphere. Will broke it first

"How are you?" He asked

Hayden buried
