"(Y/N)-chan~" a familiar voice called out and I smiled, turning the faucet off and placing the water bottle back into the bag before turning around to look at Oikawa.

"Hey Tooru-senpai," I replied with a smile. "Are you ready for today's game?"

He stopped a few feet in front of me, his hands in his tracksuit pockets. "Mhm, but I wanted to talk to you alone before the game started, so this is perfect."

I tilted my head, confused before I blinked in realization. "Are you worried that our friendship will be affected by this? Ah if so you don't have to-"

"I saw the news," he interrupted and I closed my mouth, taking a step back when I saw his expression. "A sport's prodigy... (Y/N) you're just like Tobio-chan... No you're even more of a genius."

'He didn't call me "(Y/N)-chan"' "And what does me having to be a prodigy have to do with this?" I asked, my heart beating fast at the change in development.

"I hate geniuses you know..." He glared at me. "Have you been laughing behind my back this entire time?" My lips started to feel dry. "I told you why I resented geniuses and told you about my worries whenever we called." He took a step forward and I took a step back, my legs hitting against the faucet. "I bet you were silent laughing at me this entire time, lying when you said you felt sympathy. You were just laughing pitifully at me weren't you?"

"Tooru-senpai I-"

"You hid that you were a prodigy to me... You didn't have to work hard to get where you were now like me. (Y/N), you told me that you always worked hard and stayed after practice to get better, but right now I can't believe you. You didn't have to work hard for your skills, as you can copy anything you see on your first try perfectly. That's why they called you the Thief of Teiko. You and your brother were titled the Copycat Twins, given the ability to copy anything on the first try."

I gulped and his glare seemed to get deeper, but his eyes were swirling with a mix of emotion that consisted of hate, pain, and something else. "That's not true, I-!"

"I am going to defeat Karasuno and get to the Nationals," Oikawa stated and clenched his fists. "Tobio-chan, Ushiwaka, and you, (Y/N)... All you geniuses that are standing in my way.... I'll crush you all and prove that I am stronger than you... That all my hard work paid off."

He then turned away and I reached out to him, grabbing the back of his jacket. He stopped walking and looked over his shoulder at me. I opened my mouth to say something, to retort him, to say that he was just making assumptions about me. My heart clenched and no words seem to come out of my mouth.

He sighed, gripped my hand and removed it from his jacket. "Since you have nothing to say, I'm going to go. Just remember what I said (Y/N), we will win... Don't talk to me for a while."

I stayed in place, my hands shaking at my sides as I watched Oikawa's figure slowly disappear from sight. My mask completely crumbled when he disappeared and a pained yet angry expression filled my face. For the first time in a long time, I wanted to tell someone the truth about me, my past. My story.

I wanted to tell Oikawa about ME. I wanted him to see the real ME. I wanted to tell him about how he was wrong about ME.

'We are both similar, both pained and filled with insecurities.'

I took a deep breath and turned away from the hallway, picking up the bag of bottles, I walked back to my team with a heavy conscious.

Third POV

(Y/N) quietly sat down on the bench, on the outside she held her usual smile, but internally she was seething. Her gaze unconsciously landed on Oikawa, realizing she was staring at him, she looked away like he was infected with the plague. 'Damn bastard saying that shit to me right before the game started.' She gripped her pen with more strength. Kiyoko, who noticed, was worried that the ink would explode from the inside. 'Once this is over I'm going to give him a piece of my mind! I was too unprepared for that sudden attack to give a response, but after this I'm going to set things straight to that idiot who made those ridiculous assumptions about me!'

The whistle blew. Snapping out of her thoughts, (Y/N) turned to see Oikawa and Daichi shaking hands. "Let's have a good game," Daichi said, a serious look on his face.

'Dammit, crush his hand Daichi-senpai!'

On the contrary, Oikawa was smiling, acting carefree like he hadn't just broke off his friendship with (Y/N) right before the game. "Let's have a good ooone~"

"Datekou also had a lot of support from the stands, but..." Shimada looked over to his right, glancing at the three girls cheering for Oikawa. "Seijoh's got stuff like this."

"LIKE HELL I'LL STAND TO LOSE TO THEM! LET'S DO THIS!" Tanaka angrily shouted, his sharp shark like teeth showing. Noya growled behind him, equally frustrated while Hinata tried to copy the two.

(Y/N) sighed. 'Senpais... You're influencing Shoyo in a bad way.'

"Louder!" Suga yelled out. "Right now, it's ("SEIJOH!") as if Aoba Johsai ("GO GET EM!") ("PUSH EM!") are the only ones on the court!"

"We'll be serving first," Daichi told Ukai who responded with, "Got it."

"OSSU!"

Yamaguchi pushed the cart full of volleyballs onto the court and Kiyoko stood next to (Y/N). Two girls in the stands cupped their hands. "One, two, Oikawa-senpai good-"

"KARASUNO, FIGHT!"

"OSU!" "FIGHT!" "FIGHT!" "SORRRA!" "FIGHT!"

"They've definitely got plenty of spirit." Shimada laughed.

("Serve!") "Yup, oh come to think of it, did your disciple master that serve?" Takinoue asked.

"Could you teach me... The jump float serve?" Shimada sweatdropped. "What's with that disciple business... It only lasted a week, you know." He faced Yamaguchi. "He had some lucky breaks, but he's still got a ways to go before he can hit it without any rotation."

After Karasuno did their serving drills, it was now Seijoh's time to do their spiking warmups. Oikawa set the ball up to Hanamakki who spiked it down with ease into the back corner.

"Nice going Makki! Right on target!" Oikawa cheered and Hanamakki gave him a peace sign.

"Sorry Kindaichi. That toss was a bit high just now," Oikawa apologized when Kindaichi spiked.

"Ah! No, it's fine!"

Iwaizumi spiked next, the ball hitting the court with a lot of force. "Iwa-chan, aren't you trying too hard?" Oikawa commented and a dark look plastered onto Iwaizumi's face. "You don't need to show off, you know! There aren't any girls who'd watch you after all!"

(Y/N) who heard him, deadpanned.'Tooru-senpai... Rest in pieces... And in peace, I guess. I'll make sure to bring a celebratory cake to your funeral.'

"Oikawa-kun really watches the other players closely," Takeda said and both Kiyoko and (Y/N) looked over at their teacher. "I don't know much about the technical aspects, but somehow, I can tell that there's a pretty good atmosphere between team members."

Kiyoko looked back at Seijoh's side, witnessing Iwaizumi being held back by Matsukawa from throwing a ball at Oikawa who was standing there laughing. "Iwaizumi-san calm down!"

"Ahaha!"

"...Really?" she blurted out.

"A good atmosphere... It's more like Tooru-senpai observes his teammates for their strengths and weaknesses so he can help them, along with analyzing their personalities so he can adjust to them," (Y/N) stated, watching him with a distant look in her eyes as she stared at his smiling face. "It's a good trait to have, especially for being a captain and setter."

The whistle then blew, making a screeching sound. "Line up!" Daichi called out.

"Ooh, it's starting!"

The whistle blew again and both teams bowed down to each other. "LET'S HAVE A GOOD GAME!"

"I wonder which'll win." "It's bound to be Aoba Johsai."

"Hey there, Tobio-chan," Oikawa chimed as the two faced each other on opposite sides of the net. "I came here today looking forward to defeating the Genius Setter, so do your best and try to put up a fight."

Kageyama frowned. "We're going to win this," is what he started to say, but was rudely interrupted by Hinata, whose loud shout ate up his words.

"WE WON'T LOSE!" Hinata loudy declared and Oikawa silently stared a them with a stupid expression as he watched the duo start to fight.

"Don't just come over here and cut me off, you damn idiot!" Kageyama shouted, trying to grab Hinata's head, but he ducked just in time. He sighed, turning back to Oikawa. "...We won't lose..."

"This time either!" Hinata and Kageyama said in union and Oikawa placed a hand on his hip, smirking before they walked away from each other to their teams.

"You guys have already won against Aoba Johsai once. Even if your opponents weren't at their best then, I think you should take the reality of that win as a reason to have confidence in yourselves," Takeda lectured. "Confidence, not conceit."

"Right!"

They then looked over at (Y/N) who was silently watching them. She cleared her throat. "Don't get overconfident when the tide is in our favor and don't get overwhelmed when things start to look bad. Go out there and have fun, you'll do good."

"Yes!"

They grouped huddled, placing their hands in the circle. "KARASUNO FIGHT!" "OSU!"

"-So #10 doesn't end up leading you around the nose, control the ball's course and stop whatever is stoppable, keep everything else in the air," Irihata said confidently.

"Right!"

"Ooookay let's do this," Oikawa hummed, swinging his hands in and out. "Well then, I'll be-" His face and entire demeanor then turned serious as he turned around, looking at his teammates. "-Counting on all of you today, as well."

He faced away from them, the '#1' on the back of his jersey seemed more threatening as his team watched his back get smaller. They followed after him, their postures seeming serious and tense.

"I kinda get the feeling that the atmosphere around Aoba Johsai just changed," Takinoue mumbled, gripping the railing.

Irihata crossed his arms over his chest. 'The words he always says before a match... Coming from him, they could be a mere pleasantry or a threat., but the rest of the team knows that this is the only time his words hold no double meaning, so they will also give their all once again, and place their trust in him.'

"Here we go," Oikawa mumbled, his playful attitude gone.

"Osu!" The Seijoh team shouted.

(Y/N) took in a breath of air, slowly breathing in and out. The match was going to start, she had to focus on the game instead of thinking back to what Oikawa said before to her. 'I refuse to let his words rattle me and make me lose focus... If he thinks he can make ME, ME of all people, lose myself to my thoughts before a game, he sure as hell is wrong.' Letting out a deep breath, her eyes focused on the court. "Let the game begin, Oikawa Tooru." She competitively grinned. "My mental blockage is quite better than you think it is, and I know it's way better than yours."

The whistle blew and Tsukishima went to serve, throwing the ball up in the air, he did a regular overhand serve. The ball went over the net, Kunimi receiving it. "Kunimi!" "Got it!" "Nice!"

Shimada hummed. "The two in the vanguard are both rushing forward."

"Who'll they use!" Takinoue wondered.

'It's been a long time since I last saw Oikawa-san's sets up close.' Kageyama watched closely as Oikawa jumped into the air, Matsukawa running up to jump as well. He grit his teeth, realizing too late what Oikawa's plan was.

Oikawa slapped the ball down over Hinata who didn't even move from his spot. The ball landed in the back, making a smacking sound, and gaining Seijoh the first point. "Woah... it's a sudden dump shot!" Shimada called out and Oikawa landed onto the ground with a smirk, the cheers following in behind him.

"A sudden dump shot...? More like a forceful spike," (Y/N) said to Ukai who had an irk mark on his forehead.

"Dammit..."

"Way to go Seijoh! Push em back Tooru!"

"It's another incredible dump shot..." Takeda whispered.

"Come on now. I'm going to do the same thing next time too, you know~" Oikawa provocatively said, pointing at Hinata and Tanaka. "Don't space out and stay vigilant okay?"

His words seemed to piss off the two first and second years while Asahi and Daichi stood awkwardly in the background.

"Oi, don't let his words provoke you!" (Y/N) shouted to the boys. "If you get provoked now, you won't be able to think clearly and make mistakes!"

Her words seemed to be ignored by the majority of them as Hinata whispered over to Tanaka. "D-Does he really mean it when he says he's gonna do it again?! But there's no way he would, right..."

"If you think like that, he might just dare to do it twice in a row." Tanaka frowned.

"Ah! I see! Tanaka-san you're amazing!"

"Agonizing over it won't do you any good," Daichi said to the two. "It's the same as trying to figure out whether your opponent will put out rock, papper, or scissors. Don't overthink it."

'Thank goodness for Daichi-senpai.'

"Right!"

"PUSH EM BACK, PUSH EM BACK, SEIJOH!"

It was now Matsukawa's turn to serve and Seijoh's libero, Watari was switched out with Kindaichi. Matsukawa did a jump serve, the ball hitting against Daichi's forearms.

"Alright!" "Daichi-san nice receive!"

"B quick!" Tanaka shouted in unison with Hinata who yelled out, "Send it over!"

"Ooh, is it gonna go to #10? Are they gonna do it?!"

Hinata jumped up with his eyes closed and Kageyama set the ball to him. Hinata successfully hit the ball- "There it is! The super quick strike!" -Only for it to be received by Watari.

"Arg! Right to the libero, huh." Shimada groaned.

"Whaa?! Oi, is Seijou's setter planning to hit another dump shot?!" Takinoue boomed.

Oikawa brought his hands back, jumping into the air with a grin. "He's being way more obvious about it this time!"

"Don't underestimate us!" Tanaka shouted and him and Hinata jumped up.

"Oi don't!" (Y/N) shouted a bit too late and Oikawa's form changed into a set. The ball went over to the other side of the court, right to where Iwaizumi was for a clean shot. Tanaka and Hinata's eyes widened in shock.

"A set done while in the motion of a spike.." Ukai mumbled and Iwaizumi spiked the ball down past the one man block of Kageyama. The ball landed beside Asahi. Ukai turned towards the blond haired girl. "Isn't that what you did during your game against Johzenji?"

She nodded. "Yeah... I pretended to spike only to switch my form and set it to Kagera... They are currently trying to outsmart us by using tricky plays and getting into their heads."

"Oi, that was a little low," Iwaizumi said to Oikawa.

"Really? Sorry. But you can generally get there to hit it anyway, Iwa-chan," Oikawa replied casually.

"Wow... It's kinda irritating but amazing."

"You're so cool!" "Oikawa-senpaiii!"

"Keep it up Hajime! Go go, Hajime! One more!"

"Hey c'mon now. You already knew going into this that Oikawa's amazing. And, our side isn't about to lose to them when it comes to the setter's skill and the flashiness of our attack!" Daichi stated to Tanaka and Hinata who seemed to feel better from his words.

"O-Osu!"

"Matsukawa one more time. Nice serve!"

He did a normal serve and the ball went over the net, straight to Nishinoya.

"Nishinoya!" "Got it!"

"Bring it on!" Hinata shouted while charging forward.

He jumped up into the air and Tanaka prepared to jump up while Kindaichi jumped after Hinata. 'It's going to #5, huh?' Iwaizumi moved over and Oikawa licked his lips. "-Or so it would seem right?" Behind Hinata was Asahi who prepared to jump 'It's a pipe!'

Kageyama then suddenly dumped the ball. Making everyone blink in shock. He landed onto the ground, his hair flowing.

"GYAAA!"

"He fired a dump shot right back at em!"

"He really does hate to lose, doesn't he," Tsukishima said and Sugawara continued to clap his hands gleefully.

Sugawara smiled. "Nice job Kageyama! Keep it up."

Kageyama faced Oikawa. "Next time, I'll do the same thing-" He smugly pursed his lips. "-so please do be vigilant."

"...You damn brat." Oikwa frowned, an irk mark on the side of his head and (Y/N) laughed out loud, slapping her knee, amused.

"Nice one, Tobio!"

A/N : This book was at #1 for KNB and basketball and has 70k reads, I- crying. Y'all r amazing.

Might make the Seijoh vs Karsuno game 3 or 4 chaps (this one included)

Anyways, I love Oikawa so I hope you guys don't hate him in this chap cuz of the beginning. I used Oikawa because he was the perfect character for me to use in order for (Y/N)'s true character, insecurities, and character development to start rolling and being exposed due to the fact that he hates geniuses and has a lot of insecurities.

Oikawa is a complex character and (Y/N) is one too, the two are quite similar in a way now that I'm thinking about it. But now that we have (Y/N) wanting to reveal her true self to someone (Oikawa to who is similar to her), her past getting revealed and character development is gonna start moving forward after the Aoba Johsai & Karasuno game ends.
