A year and a half later

Marcello swirled the vodka in the glass cup, the ice tinkling against its restraints. The room was dark, curtains pulled in order to not allow any light in.

He basked in the silence and serenity that left him alone with his dark thoughts. Even after all this time, he hated himself. The confusion he felt was immense, she didn't love him, yet he all he wanted to do was go back to her.

His mafia had begun a steady decline in power, his inability to concentrate on anything but his own misfortune was beginning to show in the form of his mafia dropping ranks.

In the middle of his thoughts, the door banged open and revealed Amadeo, hair a mess and huffing as if he had run a marathon, "There's a shoot out, you have to go -" Amadeo leant down, hands on his thighs as he heaved big breaths.

Marcello stood up and nodded, silently following Amadeo to the cars, and from there, to the location of the shootout.

"Who's the other gang?" Marcello's voice was slightly hoarse as he hadn't used it in a bit.

"We're not sure," Amadeo replied nervously, hoping that there wouldn't be a massacre once they get there.

"Send our messenger to their side and ask if we can meet their leader to talk it out," Marcello ordered once they got out of the car and Amadeo nodded, weaving between the cars that acted as shields.

A somewhat scrawny boy that Amadeo spoke to began to run to their side, his arms lifted to show that he was weaponless.

Soon, the boy came back, his face full of relief as he spoke with Amadeo, who turned to Marcello and nodded.

Marcello stepped past the car shields and made his way to the middle of the empty area, waiting for their leader to join him.

A familiar flash of brown hair came into his view and a slim woman dressed in a simple dress made her way towards him.

He was at a loss for words.

Bambina's heart skipped a beat as she walked towards him, her shoulders back as she maintained a straight posture.

She still loved him, even after he hurt her and left her. She couldn't help the strong feeling that wouldn't go away.

"Marcello," she licked her dry lips.

"Your men were shooting mine." His voice cracked as he continued to stare at her soft features, a painful tug on his heart as he spotted the shining band on her left ring finger.

"Your men are on my territory." She shrugged, her heart falling a bit as he went straight to business.

"Well I apologise," he spoke snarkily, "we'll get off now then."

Marcello moved to leave and a feeling of deja vu consumed Bambina, "Wait!" Marcello turned to look at her.

He shouldn't have, because as he continued to interact with her, the more he wanted to just hug her and never let go.

"I need to visit someone and I think you should come as well." She blurted out.

She wasn't planning to see him that day, but even though Marcello had made it crystal clear that he didn't want anything to do with her, she felt as if he should still know.

Marcello raised an eyebrow in question, but she kept her mouth shut until he produced a small, curt nod.

"Go back home and don't go into their territory!" Marcello called back to his men and the gestured to her to show the way.

"Ryan, we're going to go visit Angelo." Bambina turned to a man who stood, leaning on a car.

Ryan nodded and opened the door to the back seat, "We're going to go visit a guy?" Marcello couldn't help but feel jealous and angry that she would make him meet her fiance.

Another ploy to hurt him, no doubt.

Even after so long, she was still a spiteful snake.

She pursed her lips and got in the car, Marcello begrudgingly following her.

The car was deathly silent, only the sounds of the moving car could be heard.

Bambina was incredibly nervous, how would he react? Would he be mad?

The car finally stopped, and the pair left the car in silence.

Marcello was greeted by the sight of multiple rows of vertical slabs of stones upright on the green grass.

Bambina began walking to a particular slab of stone, already familiar with the path that was required to take to get there.

The sun beat down on the two as Marcello trailed behind the woman in a peach dress.

It was taking a while and he was becoming furious and impatient, why did she take him to a cemetery?

So deep in his thoughts, he almost bumped into her as she now stood still as a statue, facing a particular white stone that looked well taken care of.

He looked at the engraved writing and his heart dropped.

In loving memory of our sleeping angel who was held for a moment but will be loved for a lifetime and more.

Please be quiet, our baby is sleeping.

Marcello didn't realise that tears were trailing down his face until he felt the feather-soft touch of Bambina's hand as she wiped them away.

Looking at her, his green eyes were unguarded and conveyed the deep pain and regret that he felt.

Pain that Bambina had to go through this alone.

Regret that he wasn't there for her.

Regret that he never even got to meet his angel

Regret for not being apart of his kids' lives.

And regret for ever doubting that Bambina would hurt him.

After all, she had brought him here, and this was much better than him never knowing.

As more tears fell, so did he. His knees hit the soft grass and Bambina sat beside him, tears falling down her own face as she felt his pain.

Carefully guiding his head into her lap, she rubbed his thick shoulder and temple with two different hands, doing her best to comfort the father.

She had her time to grieve, but this was all new to him.
