The Lernaean Hydra,

Often known as the Hydra,

Is a serpentine water monster in Greek mythology.

Its lair was the lake of Lerna.

Dark shapes surrounded us. Some belonged to humans, others belonged to already shifted crocottas.

I couldn't help but glance around. The rider followed suit, his hand still grasped my wrist in a tight hold. He snarled like the intruders' appearance had landed him In deep shit.

That traitor. Alex had called for backup when he let out that painful cry. Either the noise traveled far or crocottas have pretty good auditory.

I winced when the rider's wet, wrinkly but feeble hands pressed against my skin. For someone with a scarce amount of flesh, he sure has a lot of strength.

He turned to me, green eyes seemed to hold so much anger. "Óloi ósoi symmorfónontai me ton Yió tou Felony prépei na pethaínoun."

All who side with the Son of Felony must die.

And there's that robotic but seemingly ancient statement; Son of Felony.

I glared at him. His seaweed scent invaded the surrounding air. "Liam is no threat. You don't have to kill him...or me."

The rider tilted his head in a creepy sort of way. His dark moppy hair swayed to the side. He looked like a freaking zombie. "O Liám den ypotíthetai óti ypárchei."

Liam isn't supposed to exist.

I froze. Was not expecting that answer. Why will he say that?

But now isn't the time to have a conversation with my killer. Especially with another group of enemies around the corner.

I shivered at the thought of Henry coming back for me. But I couldn't let that happen. Not today. I willed my abilities into existence.

That moment, the rider's hand began to wither, slowly disintegrating into ash before being carried away by the wind. Its eyebrows rose, clearly surprised by my abilities.

I pulled my hand away and curled it into a fist. I Backed it up with a lot of strength -- tilting my hips as Eros instructed -- before delivered a heartbreaking punch. There was a sickening crunch before the rider hit the ground.

"How's that for existing?" I spat and turned to Liam. He was being pinned down by the other rider. The tip of the creature's sword sunk into his chest.

I ran straight for them when Liam cried out in pain. He grasped the blade with his hand, trying to counter the rider's strength. Blood seeped out from the cuts. The blade glowed in contact with his skin like it was meant just for him.

I hurtled my body against the red-eyed rider, tossing him off. The creature tumbled to the ground but morphed into a cloud of smoke.

I turned to the rider I punched. It moved to its feet. His disintegrated hand had regenerated.

My abilities didn't work on him.

He glanced at me with the promise of pain before puffing out into smoke. I quickly helped Liam to his feet. He leaned against me, strength already depleted.

"Are you okay?" I grabbed the buttons of his shirt and tore it open. The wound from the sword wasn't too deep. I inspected his bleeding palms. The skin around each cut had turned black like some sort of infection.

"You're not healing," I said with a slight hint of concern.

Liam's head bowed like it was too heavy for his neck. "Not surprised." He breathed heavily. "They were created to kill me."

Our heads snapped up as the sounds of crocottas grew louder. They had closed in on us, their figures no more hidden in the shadows. We were surrounded. The riders had still blended in with the fog.

I struggled to hold Liam upright. "You're tired...and hungry. There's only one way to solve that."

Liam narrowed his eyes at me. "I'm not feeding on you."

"You don't have a choice." My eyes darted around as the crocottas closed in. I searched for their leader.

Is Henry watching from the shadows?

We stood back to back, eyes alert as our little circle slowly decreased.

"Can you stand your ground?" I asked. Four of the crocottas were prowling, hackles raised as they readied to pounce.

Liam scoffed. His shoulders drooped from exhaustion. "I've dealt with these pricks more than once." With a wince, He lodged three arrows against his bow with bleeding hands.

I trusted his words and bend over, ripping my dress on the side to allow free movement. The tear exposed the better part of my thigh.

Liam looked over his shoulder, irises bright as they locked on my destroyed dress. "That's hot."

Despite his wounds, he's still able to flirt. I rolled my eyes, battling against the rising temperature on my cheeks. "Will you just--"

I didn't have a chance to finish when they attacked. We moved at once.

A crocotta leaped from my side at a surprising height. I acted, stretching out my hands and calling on my portal. It formed immediately, sucking up the crocotta before dumping it on the roof of a nearby building. It hit with a painful crash.

More crocottas lunged for us. Others followed, encouraged by their bravery. Liam released his arrows, shooting each crocotta in the eye. They crumbled to dust. I used my portal, transporting a hoard of them to distant buildings.

Those in human form drifted towards me, trying to grab my clothes any chance they get. I countered their approach with my abilities, turning the unfortunate humans to dust.

We were working together; I created a portal that dumped crocottas before Liam's feet, cutting out other approachers while creating an easy target for his arrows. Liam never missed.

He used his telekinesis, shoving crocottas into portals heading to farther destinations. It's like he knew which portals to use. I, on the other hand, knew where to cut off crocottas sneaking upon him. It was awesome and weird at the same time.

It was then that I realized, I was using my abilities in Zion's absence. And with everything that just happened, Wyatt's words made so much sense.

A human can only draw power from someone he or she is deeply connected to.

I pushed back my thoughts and focused on the attackers. We continued like this for a while. My arm muscles felt strained, my movements became sluggish. Liam seemed to be in the same predicament.

They kept coming, never-ending. Are they trying to wear us out? Where's Henry?

Liam grabbed my arm and activated his telekinesis, parting the crocottas to the side like a rake against dry grass. He formed an aisle leading straight to a closed store. Liam ran, pulling me behind him.

"What are you doing?" I screamed over the noise. Crocottas were on our tail.

Liam remained silent. Using his abilities, he tossed a crocotta through the glass door. It shattered to pieces. We entered the dark store, stumbling over the shards. Crocottas followed.

We ran, jumping over counters and turning down rows of shelve-filled candies. A bubbly feeling overcame me and before I knew it, I was laughing.

Liam looked at me like I had gone crazy. A smile formed on his lips. "You alright?"

I could only nod. We dashed across a lane and I snatched a bag of sweets, tossing it behind me. The bag burst on impact, spreading candies everywhere. The crocottas slipped on them, like skaters on ice. Some accidentally crashed into shelves that toppled over.

"Nice move," Liam said with a laugh of his own. I squealed when he carried me bridal style before zooming down another lane. The shop was pretty big.

We entered a storage room filled with heavy crates, not bothering to shut the door. With only one place to hide, Liam and I squeezed into a little space between the boxes and the back wall.

He pressed against my chest, hands caging me. I felt my cheeks warm up, eyes downcast. Something warm tickled in my lower belly. "What if they smell--"

He pressed a finger to my lips, right before a line of crocottas dashed past our hiding spot. Their hooves pounded against the tiled floor. When the ghost was clear, Liam whispered. "They ain't that great with smell."

He removed his finger, his thumb brushed over my lower lip. I shuddered from the touch and stared up at his cat-like eyes. His gaze felt predatory as he towered over my short frame. Our wet clothes stuck against each other.

Then he frowned. "You're cold. The rain got you good."

Really? I didn't even realize.

I sucked in a breath when he pressed further, the warmth of his body seeped through. "Feeling better?" He asked.

I made a sharp nod. My heart was racing over the ceiling. Not to mention I had recently ripped his shirt apart. My fingers traced the wound on his chest. He wasn't healing fast enough. "Are you okay?"

"I'll be fine." His breathing was uneven as he lay his head in the crook of my shoulder. "I like your red dress."

I breathed out a laugh. "Too bad it's ruined."

He smiled against my skin. "I think it's perfect." Heat spiked up as he trailed a hand up my exposed thigh. Now he wasn't the only one with breathing problems.

"Liam?" I quivered.

"Mmhm?"

Warmth ignited from within and I didn't know how to control it. For a moment, I wondered what it'll be like if Liam became my boyfriend. The thought felt foreign and I couldn't help but think of other girls.

Girls like Ocypete and Phyllis. And after my conversation with Eros, I had to ask. "Who's your beloved?"

He paused at the statement. He shifted away so he could look at me and tilted his head, eyebrows scrunched in puzzlement.

Happy new month everyone! Hope you're enjoying your day. Things seem normal and boring here but what does it matter? At least I'm alive.

How's the story so far? I'd love to hear about it.
