April 26th

Was it worth?

This new found bravery

This new found strength.

She chuckled, of course not.

She looks at her knuckles

Red and blue coated the flesh

Evidence of her attempt to salvage a part of her

One of the few things she was able to love.

A sign that beneath this shell, lived a mother with warmth for her children.

Green orbs focused on the framed picture.

A mother, a baby boy, her sweet bundle of joy.

He presented it to her in a pale blue box with a neat off-white bow.

Said he hadn't forgotten about her

Said he wanted to give to here something worse than death.

And he did.

He took her child from his cot.

Placed the screaming creature into the arms of Sarah.

She flung her glass at him.

Her lungs opened up and agony poured from her soul.

Her fist met him.

It spoke of a rage so pure, it could be hate.

A hate so fierce the Devil begged.

Her palm did not miss a beat.

She screamed things at him so mean The Holy Catholic Church despaired

This was the first time that she had felt something other than fear

The first time her being did not bend and pay homage.

She was no Queen in this moment.

She was a Mother.

But was it worth it?

Did the Prince relent?

No. The darkness took her newborn son and placed him into his light

The blackness seized her and forced her to submit

But how does one submit when one's blood hummer with power

With the strength of a woman.

So there she sat gazing at the city below

A whiskey in her hand

And a hole in her soul

Trying to remember which breath to take and which to let go.
