The cool breeze blew across her face as she walked into the school yard. She adjusted her bag on her back and fixed her lunch kit more comfortably over her shoulder.

She walked into school alone because her mother refused to take her.

"Get out of my house and go to school you little twerp!"

She didn't understand why her mother was shouting at her because as far as she knew, she didn't do anything wrong. She had made her bed like she was told and cleaned her shoes too.

The little four year old nodded her head timidly and headed out the door.

Dorian was a very smart little girl. She knew how to do a lot of things that little kids her age wouldn't even think of doing at such a young age.

"Maybe that's why mommy wanted me to go to school alone. Because I can cross the road and walk safely like she taught me" Dori grinned, proud that her mother trusted her enough to go to school by herself.

Upon her arrival, she was met with a teacher, Ms. Osbourne, who stopped her.

"Hi sweetie" she greeted in a soft voice, gushing at the cute little flower with her long hair in pigtails that she did herself. "Where's your mommy?" She asked, wondering why she was the only one to walk into school.

"S-s-she's at home ma'am" Dori mumbled politely to the teacher.

Ms. Osbourne's brows shot up in surprise. "You walked here all by yourself?"

Dori nodded her head with a wide grin, proud of her accomplishment. She couldn't wait to tell her mommy. She noticed, however, did not seem very pleased with her answer.

"Your mom made you come here all by yourself?" She asked out of pure shock, Wondering how terrible did you have to be to send your own 4 year old daughter to school by herself.

"Really?!" A little boy with dirty blonde hair and blue-green eyes, just like hers exclaimed. "I wish my mom would let me come to school by myself" he pouted a bit at the statement he made. He wanted to be a big boy and take care of himself just like she did.

"Mason" the teacher scolded in a warning voice. "It's not very nice to listen to other people's conversations without their permission" she scolded the young boy.

He hung his head in shame. "I'm sorry Ms. Osbourne" he mumbled.

Her heart melted at the cute boy. She sighed and ruffled his hair with her hand. "It's ok. Just make sure that you don't do it again ok? Other people might not be as friendly as I am"

Mason grinned up at her and made a pinky promise to never do it again.

Ms. Osbourne looked back at Dorian. "Take little flower here to her classroom please Mason. Its classroom F2."

"Okay!"

She watched as Mason took the shy girl's hands and brought her inside. She noticed how the two had a slight resemblance with each other, but paid no mind to it as she had more pressing matters to think of. She still couldn't fathom why a mother would let such a tiny little girl walk all the way to school by herself. Did her mother trust her that much? One thing she knew for sure though was that she was definitely going to investigate it.

Dorian looked up at the little boy who was dragging her down by the hallway to her classroom. She adjusted her bag on her back as her tiny little legs tried to keep up with the blonde.

Soon, much to her relief, the reached the classroom.

Mason took her bag off her be back and plopped it on a chair beside his. "You can sit beside me!"

Dori smiled shyly at him. "I'm Dorian, but you can just call me Dori" she smiled.

"I'm Mason but you can just call me your extremely super awesome new best friend" he grinned.

"Isn't that a bit too long?" She asked sheepishly.

Mason thought for a while. "Eh, maybe it's a tiny bit too long" he shrugged his shoulders. "You can call me Mason, but the title still remains best friend" he grinned at her and threw his hand over her shoulder in a friendly manner.

Dorian had never had a best friend. She didn't even know what it was. But she knew in her heart that this new friendship was going to be one she would cherish. And even though she had no idea what to do, she was determined to be the bestest best friend of all times.
