I woke up and still felt Derek beside me, which wasn't something I was used to.

"Der?"

"I'm awake. How are you feeling?"

"I don't know. Scared."

He squeezed me a little tighter.

"I'm gonna do everything that I can so that he won't get near you again."

I nodded my head on his chest but didn't say anything else.

"What time is it?"

"It's around 10."

I knew I was late for school but I didn't make any effort to get up.

"Your brother stopped by and said to tell you not to worry about school today. Your dad's at work and he won't be home till late because of parent teacher conferences."

"Okay. I don't have to go to those tonight. Just Stiles."

"That doesn't surprise me."

I laughed a little at his joke. Stiles could be smart when he wanted, but his hyperactiveness made it hard for him to focus.

"Do you want to talk about last night?"

I breathed out a little shakily.

"I was with Jackson and Lydia. They make me come to a lot of their movie nights even though I can't watch. I went in with Jackson to help him pick movies and it was really quiet. We couldn't hear anyone working and no one replied when Jackson called out. He went to look at something, I don't know what, when the alpha showed up. He-He was standing right behind me. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't see where to go and Jackson told me not to move, I assume he thought it was the mountain lion everyone has been talking about."

"Did he say anything to you?"

"He talked about the necklace. He-uhh said he wondered what you would think if it was covered in blood. He said something about you feeling the pain and testing it soon. I don't really know what he meant."

He tensed up a little.

"I'm not sure what he meant. I'd have to look into it."

I just nodded my head. I felt like he wasn't telling me something but I didn't want to bring it up right now.

"I should go talk to Jackson."

"What? Why?"

"I need to know what he saw last night."

"He's not going to tell you the truth."

"He won't have a choice. I'll know if he's lying."

"You can tell when people lie?"

"Hearts skip a beat when someone lies. It's one of the most obvious signs for a wolf to look for."

"That's kinda cool. What else can you do?"

"I can read emotions, more like smell emotions I guess. People give off chemo signals, so I can detect fear, sadness, pain, things like that."

"That's really cool. I guess it's pretty useless to try and hide things from you then."

He chuckled a little.

"I wouldn't recommend it."

"Do you have to go talk to him? I really don't want to be alone right now."

He gave me a squeeze and sat up bringing me with him.

"I'm not gonna leave you here. You're coming with me."

"Really?"

"You'll have to wait in the car while I talk to Jackson but you'll be safer there then here alone."

"Okay. I need to go shower real quick."

"Okay. I'll be here waiting."

I got out of bed and made my way to my dresser. I grabbed some clothes and went and took a quick shower. I changed into some plain black skinny jeans, a green top, and some black vans. I walked back into my room and felt around on my nightstand for my phone. I didn't know where it was.

"Do you see my phone anywhere Der?"

"It's on the bed. You've got a message from Jackson and Stiles."

"What do they say?"

"They're both wondering how you are."

"I'll just talk to them later."

He put it in my hand and I slid it into my pocket.

"Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah. Just need a jacket. Are we going anywhere else?"

"Maybe to my house afterwards, if you're okay with that."

"Sounds good to me."

I grabbed a simple black jacket and slid it on.

"Okay. I'm ready."

I felt him grab my hand and place it on his arm.

"May car is a little ways from the house."

"That's okay."

We made our way downstairs and out of the house. He led me a little ways to his car and helped me get in. When he got in and we started driving I turned to face him.

"Do you think the alpha will go after Jackson?"

He sighed a little.

"I don't know. It seems like he picked Scott at random, so maybe. But Jackson doesn't seem like the type. He seems to hotheaded for the alpha."

"You do know he's my bestfriend right?"

"I do. And I also know that you know he can be a hothead."

"Well, yeah. But I'm the only one who can call him that."

He chuckled a little. His laugh made me smile. When the car stopped I felt him shift.

"I won't be gone long. Stay here okay?"

"Okay."

He gave my hand a squeeze and then got out of the car.

Derek's P.O.V.

I hated being back in the locker room but I needed to know what Jackson saw. He seemed to jump at everything around him. Once enough people had cleared out I made myself known to him. He jumped back into the lockers.

"I-I don't know where Scott is."

"I'm not here for Scott. I'm here for you."

"Wh-Why-Why me? I-I didn't do anything."

"No, but you saw something, didn't you?"

"No, I didn't- I didn't see anything."

"What was it, hmm? An animal? A mountain lion?"

"I didn't see anything. I swear. I'm- I'm not lying."

"Then calm down and say it again."

"Say what? That I'm not lying?"

"Tell me that you didn't see anything. Slowly."

"I didn't- see anything. I'm not lying."

"Two more things."

I grabbed his hair to move him down and see his neck.

"You should really get that checked out."

I threw his head back and he looked frightened.

"And-And the second."

"If I ever find out that you let Alice be that close to danger and didn't help her again, I'll kill you myself."

"Are you going to question her the same way you did me?"

"No, I already know what happened."

I walked out of the locker room without another word. I went outside and saw Alice sitting in the car looking bored. I hated dragging her into this and having to drag her around, but I knew the safest place for her was with me.
