July 22nd
(A couple hours later)

I was scared. I was finally going home, and I was ecstatic, but I dreaded it at the same time. If the army was looking for me, they'd go straight to my house. They know where we  live, so finding my house over ran, or deserted was a high possibility.

I miss my family. More then anything in this world. I missed the kids, I missed my best friend, my brother, I missed my bed, I missed it all.

I blinked, trying to keep my eyes open and on the road. I wanted nothing more than to sleep, but I knew we couldn't.

We've been driving for about two hours now, maybe three? I'm not really too sure it's hard to tell. The sun wasn't out, but neither was the moon. If it is out I couldn't see it, it was pitch black out, the only source of light was coming from the truck's headlights. It revealed a tiny bit of the road as I drove, but I could hardly see anything.

It's so dark out, that I couldn't see a squirrel that ran in the road until it was right in front of us.

Poor thing became roadkill.

We passed a couple of walkers as well, luckily they couldn't see the boys in the back, so they didn't really pay us mind. The light attracted them a bit, but once they saw us, we were gone in a flash.

I'm not going extremely fast, but I'm not going slow either. My goal was to reach my house before the sun came up for the day. It was a dangerous goal, considering I haven't slept yet, but I needed to see my family. They're the only reason why I keep fighting for my life, why I go through this struggle and hardship. It's all for them.

If they're gone, I won't have a reason to live.

"Scarlet!" My eyes snapped open, I quickly slammed the breaks and we skidded.

I heard the guys in the back yelp a little and Alaina grabbed onto the dash board, while trying to help me steer, before we came to a stop in front of a car.

I didn't even realize I had my eyes closed.

Now wide awake, my heart was beating a million miles a second and I was breathing hard in fright. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, and with wide eyes I stared straight ahead.

"Are you trying to kill us!?" I heard Zoey blurt out.

I didn't say anything, I only looked back at her. Her long straight black hair covered her now paled face for a brief second while she gripped onto her seatbelt. Her eyes were wide and she too was breathing hard.

It's safe to say I wasn't the only one who had a mini heart attack.

I looked over at Zack, who had his arms out on the passenger seat, He looked up at me, his brown eyes piercing me with a glare. Sarah was right beside him, with her arms holding Zack back against her seat. She removed her arm however, once it registered that we were no longer moving.

I turned my head to look ahead again, we could clearly see the car blocking the road.

"Is everyone okay?!" Someone asked from the back.

I looked at the red car we almost hit, not being able to see a way around.

I need a better look.

I unbuckled my seatbelt, and opened the door before stepping out. I contemplated on bringing my gun, but decided not to. There wasn't any walkers around as far as I know. I looked around one last time before I jogged to the back of the truck.

"We're all okay. Nico can you pass me my flashlight, it's in my black duffel bag." I asked, barely being able to make out his features. The only thing I could see clearly were his eyes.

I watched him move around the truck before hearing the un zipping of my duffel bag. Nico came back with my flashlight. He turned it on and shone the light on my face. It's brightness blinded me so I turned my cheek and used my left hand to block the light.

Nico chuckled before turning it off and handing it to me.

"Where are you going kid?" Logan asked, with a flashlight of his own.

"There's a car blocking the road. I'm going to check it out." I turned my flashlight back on, before turning around and checking out the surrounding area.

We were on a road that was surrounded by trees, which meant I couldn't see anything but the first two trees on the outline of the pavement road. I turned around and walked to the front of the truck, the headlights were still on so it helped me see better.

I flashed the light on the red damaged car, it was abandoned, but it was occupied. I counted the bodies and shook my head when I saw the deceased two year old.

"Damn, what a shame."

I spun on my heel to see Nico.

"Nico, How many times do I have to tell you to stop sneaking up on me!" I whispered yelled.

He smiled coyly before stepping beside me.

"They look dead. I don't think we have to worry about them."

I looked over at Logan who hopped out of the trunk and walked up to the red car. I watched him peer into it, seeing the dead kid as well.

"Kids get back inside the truck, Emmett, Juan and I will move the car." Logan ordered, using a flashlight of his own to tap the car's window.

The kid woke up, and started to growl and reach for Logan. The two other walkers seemed to be dead, dead. I watched the toddler struggle in its car seat where it was strapped up.

I looked at Nico who nudged his head back to the truck.

I shook my head.

"Nico and I will keep watch while you guys do that." I said.

Logan turned away from the car and looked at me. He thought about it for a minute.

"I hope you know, that wasn't a request." I added.

Logan raised a brow.

Emmett and Juan emerged from around the truck, Emmett was holding a flashlight and a machete in his hand, while Juan held a crowbar.

"Hey, what's going on?" This time it was Alaina who spoke up, coming out of the truck.

Sarah, Zack, and Zoey emerged behind her.

"Just a car blocking our path. The boys and I will move it. Sarah you and your son should get back in the truck. Zoey join them. "

Sarah nodded, and climbed back inside the truck, Zoey followed behind her. Zack however came over to Nico, I was a couple of feet away from them so I couldn't hear what they were talking about. I didn't care anyways, but when both Nico and Zack glanced my way, my curiosity sparked.

I turned away from them and started to head towards the back of the truck.

"Alaina why don't you help Scarlet and Nico, she's quite insistent on keeping watch instead of staying safe in the car." I could hear Logan say.

I didn't pay him any mind, but continued to look around us. I didn't see anything, just a couple of cars on the side of the road.

Maybe they have some supplies we could use?

I wanted to check it out.

I went back to the truck and opened the driver's door. I stepped inside and grabbed my hand gun. I checked to see if the clip was full or not, but it wasn't, it still only had two bullets left.

I forgot to reload it.

I sighed. "What's a girl like you doing with a gun like that?" I looked up at Sarah, who was sitting in the back with Zoey.

Zoey eyed me weirdly, almost with a glare.

"Surviving." Was all I said, before I stepped out of the truck with my gun.

I closed the truck's door, careful not to make a lot of noise.

I jogged to the back and unlatched the trunk's door, so it could go down flatly. I placed the flashlight and gun down inside before hopping up with them. I then grabbed the flashlight and looked for my black duffel bag.

I found it beside Nico's bag. I crouched down and unzipped my bag, looking for the cardboard box of ammo Raiden had left for me.

I found it underneath some rifles and other guns. I haven't had the time to look through them and sort everything out. I had also grabbed a hunting knife, because I knew it was dangerous to use a gun.

Even with it's silencer it still made a noise loud enough to attract the unwanted.

I reloaded the clip until it was full, then I looked around before zipping the bag back up. Once that was done I grabbed the flashlight and hopped out of the trunk. I put the door back up before heading to the first car I wanted to loot.

It was a small white Honda, I'd get specific but truth is I was never good with naming cars.

There wasn't anyone or anything inside, which I was grateful for. I opened the door quietly, which was unlocked, and began to look through the vehicle.

I searched the middle compartment first, but I found nothing but a ten dollar bill and some pennies.

"It's not like I can buy anything now in days." I muttered to myself.

I moved on from the middle compartment to the glove compartment. I was a little iffy to do this because there was blood on the passenger seat. It looked old but blood is blood.

I opened the glove compartment and inside was a prescription bottle. I'd recognize the orange colored bottle and white cap anywhere. I quickly grabbed the bottle and sat down correctly in the driver's seat. I held the light to the bottle to read the name of the drug that was prescribed.

amoxicillin

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Amoxicillin? I wonder what this is for." I wish the internet was still a thing.

I bit my lip before leaving the drug on the dashboard. I'd collect it again once I finish searching the whole car.

I moved out of the driver seat and made way to the back seats. On the seats there was a jacket, and some high heels. I grabbed the jacket, but frowned when I realized it was small enough to fit a four year old.

I'll bring it for Adriel.

I placed the jacket by the bottle of pills before I unlocked the trunk. When I did, I went around back and opened the trunk all the way. Inside was a spare tire and a toolbox. I opened the black toolbox, to find the silver tools all in place.

I recognized a few tools like a socket wrench with its different sizes, pliers, screwdrivers, a hammer, and so on. Basically every tool you would need to be able to fix or change a tire.

Well not every tool.

I closed the tool box and with effort carried it back to the front of the car where I had left the jacket and pills.

"What are you doing?"

I looked behind me to see Alaina and the boys walking over to me. I placed the tool box down beside the open car door and grabbed the pills. I tossed them to Alaina who caught them with ease.

"Do you know what kind of pills those are?" I asked.

I held my flashlight in my left hand before grabbing the jacket and holding it under my arm. I proceeded to grab the toolbox.

I watched Alaina read the bottle and her eyes widened a little bit. "Where did you find this?!" She asked, shocked.

I walked over to her. "In the car. I was going through it seeing if there was anything useful. I found a jacket, a tool box and those pills. I figured you would know what amoxicillin was." I shrugged.

I stopped for a break, the toolbox was a little too heavy.

"Here let me help you with that." Nico stepped beside me and grabbed the tool box.

"Thanks." I said.

Nico nodded and went to put the toolbox in the truck.

"These are rare now in days, but it's a great find. Amoxicillin helps with bacterial infections. It's amazing that you found these."

Wow, that's pretty cool, And to think I was going to leave them.

I held the jacket in my hands and nodded. "I'm going to check the other cars as soon as I put this jacket in the front seat. " I held up the small coat.

Alaina looked at me questionably but she didn't ask me what she wanted to ask, instead she handed me the pills. "Here, you should put these inside the truck with it. Zack and I will search the other cars while you do that." I took the pills and nodded, walking past them and towards the truck.

I caught up with Nico as soon as I did. I placed the items inside before turning to him and walking with him to the other cars.

"How are you feeling? This is the first time you've been out and about like this since you've been with us." He asked.

I held the flashlight up, lighting our path. "I'm doing fine, the pain isn't as bad as it was before. It's bearable."

Nico nodded using his flashlight to look around the sides, where the trees were.

"Why didn't you leave me?" He blurted. He looked over to me, seeing my confused stare he continued. "When Don held a gun to my head, I told you to go but, you stayed. I'm just wondering why, if you hate me so much." He shrugged.

"I don't hate you." I countered.

Nico looked at me, smiling a little.

"But, truthfully, I didn't want your blood on my hands. I may not like you much, but that doesn't mean I want you dead." I responded.

We caught up with Alaina and Zack who had to break the car's window to be able to open it. Thankfully there wasn't an alarm on the car, so it wasn't a problem. I stepped carefully around the glass, and moved to the car behind the one Alaina and Zack were checking.

Nico followed me.

"That's it? You didn't want my blood on your hands? Really?" He questioned.

I checked to see if the black ford was open. It wasn't. But the window was down so it saved me the trouble.

"Yeah, I'm not sure what else I wouldn't have left for." I reached inside the car, not even checking it first.

However when I felt something grab my hand, I yelped. A walker in the back seat, had some how got a hold of my hand. It's grip was tight and it's grimy hand and rough fingers made sure of it. My heart sped up and I could feel the terror light up inside me.

Nico grabbed me by waist and pulled me out of the walkers grip. I was wearing my black leather jacket, and I checked to see if it ripped. It didn't.

He killed the Walker, then turned around to face me. "Are you alright? It didn't scratch you or anything did it?" He asked frantically.

I shook my head, ignoring my rapidly beating heart. "No, I'm okay. Thank you." I looked up at him, grateful that he helped me.

That was close, it could have bit me and that would be it for me. I'm not immune like Nico. At least I don't think I am.

Nico reached into the car and unlocked it before opening the door. He opened the back door as well and dragged the walkers body out.

"Let's hurry up and search this car. Logan and the others should be done soon." I said, flashing the light inside and starting with the glove compartment this time.

Nico didn't say anything, instead he went to the back and looked around.

Nothing but a few change was in the glove compartment, so I moved onto the middle compartment.

"Woah, look what I found." Nico said breaking the silence.

I stopped searching through the mountain of receipts and looked over to where Nico was. He held up a gold chain, with a cross attached to it.

It was beautiful.

It reminded me of my gold necklace my mother gave me when I was younger. Sadly at the time we were struggling a lot with bills, she had to pound it for money, but lost it when she couldn't pay it back.

"Cool." I said, then I went back to searching through the middle compartment.

I removed the receipts and found a green cloth bag with string to close it. I grabbed the bag and opened it. I chuckled when the gold expensive looking watch slid out on to my hand.

"Wow, Nico look at this." Nico looked up at me.

I showed him the watch and he looked down at it with awe.

"That is the second most beautiful thing I have ever seen." He muttered.

I laughed shortly, before getting an idea. "I'll trade you." I motioned to the necklace he was holding.

He grinned, his dimples showing as he did. "Deal."
