Do you know how it feels to be desperately useless?

It's almost watching a loved one die infront of you, but not being able to do anything. Imagine standing in front of a large fish tank. Your bestfriend, sister, brother, mother, father, someone important to you is in it, tied by a chain to the bottom, drowning. You're doing everything you can possibly think of, but as hard as you try to break the glass, it wont crack. As hard as you hit the glass, with anything you can find, it Just. Won't. Break.

Your heart pounds in your chest. It feels like it's about to explode. Your face pales. Your blood feels like it left your entire body. You feel numb. And you stop breathing for a second.

That's exactly how I felt watching those walkers close the only entrance I had to get to my best friend and warn her.

I felt completely useless.

There was absolutely no way for me to get to her without getting the attention of that mob. Which in other words would be complete suicide.

"Dammit!" I quickly took my back pack off and threw it into the truck, I held my honey badger in my hands, and ran back to the store.

"Hey over here!" I screamed, getting the attention of two walkers.

That wasn't enough. There had to be more than twenty walkers now.

How the hell were there so many walkers in the greenhouse without me noticing them?

I mentally cursed when I also realized that the shopping cart was keeping the doors from being opened. I'm an idiot.

I raised my rifle and shot them down before picking up a rock and throwing it at another Walker.

"Hey dipshit! Come and get me!" I yelled, continuing to pick up rocks and throwing it at them.

The walkers took one glance at me before growling louder and charging at me. I aimed as best as I could having to walk backwards as I did because the insult had caught the attention of most of the walkers.

The shots were quiet, thanks to the suppressor but it still caught the attention of other walkers in the parking lot.

As I shot more walkers down two more appeared, it was crazy! I've never seen so many together since San Francisco.

When I had finished off what seemed to be ten of the walkers, my shoulder began to throb in pain. I wasn't use to the kickback, after all this is the first time I've encountered a mob as big as this one.

I aimed at the next Walker, and when I pulled the trigger nothing happened. I'm empty! I quickly searched my pockets for the second clip before realizing I had left it inside the red bag.

I looked up to see the herd of rotters moaning towards me, reaching hungrily out for me. They were getting closer so I ran to the truck again, when I got to it I hopped inside the bed of the truck, grabbing my back pack and frantically looking for the extra clip of ammo.

"Ah ha!" I found it and I quickly switched it out for the empty one and reloaded the gun. As soon as the clip was inserted into the gun, I stood up and aimed at the heads of the walkers.

One by one I picked them off, but not fast enough apparently. They reached the truck, reaching upwards towards me. I was beginning to panic when two of them began to climb up into the trunk with me.

I quickly shot them down before turning my attention back to the others. There wasn't much left, only five now.

I quickly finished them off, and hopped out of the back. As I ran back to the store with its now cleared entrance, I rubbed my soar shoulder. Stupid kick back.

I made my way through the store, coming to a halt when I spotted the other mob of walkers. Before they could see me, I bolted into one of the isle, making a slight detour.

When I was on the other side I continued to run to where I assumed Samantha was.

"Sam!" I whispered loudly. I didn't want to alert the walkers.

I wasn't running anymore, and when I made it to the area with the gardening tools, I stopped. "Sammie!?" I screamed, panicking when I saw a big crowd of walkers reaching upward. I looked up to see Samantha climbing up the tall shelves. She quickly turned her head in my direction and her eyes widened, relief shining in them. "Scarlet! You're alive?!"

Her eyes also seemed glossy with tears and I realized that she must have been crying. She thought I was dead.

The growls interrupted my thoughts and I looked back down at them. I gripped my rifle when the walkers turned to limp towards me.

I knew I didn't have enough ammo with me to take them all down, so I did what I knew best.

I ran.

The herd was faster then I hoped they'd be, because as I sprinted they were still only a few steps behind me. I continued to push myself to run harder, faster, because dying was not an option today.

This is what I get for being a hero. This is what I get for trying to save the day.

I hope this streak doesn't continue.

"Hey over here!" I ignored Samantha's voice, assuming she was trying to get their attention off of me and onto her.

It partially worked, because some of the rotters went over to Sam, who just like me, took off running.

I think we mentally agreed to go to the truck because in opposite directions we rounded the corners and ended up perpendicular to eachother. Without stopping we both ran out the store's doors, racing to the truck.

Because I was closer to the driver's door Samantha tossed me the keys and hopped inside the trunk. I quickly opened the car door and closed it behind me. Just in time for walkers to start pounding on the door. I heard the small sound of shots in the back and I turned to see Sam shooting down rotters that were trying to climb in after her.

"Hurry up!" She shouted.

With shaky hands I was having trouble with putting the keys in the ignition but finally I somehow managed to turn the truck on and back us out of that walker mess.

I heard Samantha tumble in the back before I slowed down a bit to look behind and see if she's okay.

"Are you okay?!" I yelled, loud enough so she could hear me.

I glanced back at the road, and gasped while turning the car to avoid hitting a walker.

Once the path was cleared I glanced back again, only to see Sam holding a thumbs up.

I turned back to the road, laughing quietly to myself.

After a couple of minutes I thought we were far enough and safe enough to pull over. So I did. I swiftly pulled the truck over by a curb and parked. I heard Samantha hop out of the truck before walking over to the passenger seat.

"You're a terrible driver."

I cracked a smile, holding back a laugh. "I beg to differ. Did you see that getaway? Those walkers had no chance!" I smiled, taking the truck out of park and heading back to the house.

"You almost killed me." Samantha deadpanned.

I rolled my eyes, so dramatic. "But I didn't."

"But you almost did."

I let out a small laugh, and I glanced over at Sam to see a ghost of a smile.

"Did you get the items on your list?" I asked her changing the subject off my amazing driving skills.

Sam raised her black backpack up. "Duh."  she told me.

~*~

"That was pretty wild back there. I thought we cleared that place out." Sam said, furrowing her eyebrows.

I laughed nervously, turning into the road that leads to the front gate to get onto the land.

I smiled sheepishly. "Yeah that was kind of my fault.." I stopped the truck in front of the house gates and waited for Samantha to open them with the remote we had found in Ben's pocket.

That other guy had one too but we left the spare with the kids.

"Figures." Samantha said with a scowl.

I rolled my eyes, and when the gates were fully opened I drove us through. "Okay but in my defense. I didn't see or hear them. I just took a random shopping cart that had apparently been holding the doors open." I shrugged like it was nothing.

Samantha laughed. "You're an idiot."

I drove us up to the house, ignoring the green pastures and beautiful scenery.

"Whatever, just be happy I went back for you." I smirked.

Samantha only rolled her eyes. "Like you could ever live without me." She replied.

"Ha! I'll rejoice."

Of course, I was lying. Samantha's my best friend, my sister. Without her, my life would be miserable.
