I swung the wooden pole as hard as I could.

It kinda back fired when I hissed in pain from the vibration of it making contact with the door. It made my hands throb in pain.

I looked down at my hands, before shaking the pain off. Turning back to the door, I saw a long crack run down it sideways. I prepared myself for the second blow before standing and swinging the pole as hard as I could again.

And again.

And again. Before finally a hole big enough to fit one of the boy was made. I used the end of the pole to make the whole bigger, and I did this for a while before finally, it was big enough to let myself out as well.

From what we could see, this wasn't a door anymore.

I turned back to Samuel who had begun getting his regular white color and pink lips again.

"Alright kiddo, I need you to climb out of bed and stay right beside me. I'm going to need you to be extra extra quiet for me alright?" I explained.

I went around the bed and removed the sheets off of Alex. I picked him up so that his head was resting on my shoulder and his legs wrapped my waist before waiting for Samuel to get out from under the covers as well.

Alex's weight surprised me, this kid was heavier then he appeared to be. You'd think for a scrawny short five year old, he'd weigh like paper. However, when carrying him, I felt like I was holding a huge boulder.

Samuel looked up at me, waiting for instructions. I stuck my left hand out for him to grab, before carefully bending down and grabbing a sharp edge of broken door off of the ground where other pieces laid.

"Alright, come on." I whispered.

I went out first, and tugged Samuel to follow me. We walked side by side, and I remembered the way back to the kitchen.

It was extremely quiet. I didn't hear anything but Samuel and Alex's breathing. My heart pounded in my chest, the anxiety of this all running through my veins.

When we made it to the corner that turned into the kitchen I stopped behind the wall, Samuel stopped as well and I lightly pushed him behind me.

Carefully I turned to look around the corner, where I heard a tune being whistled and the sound of dishes being washed.

I was expecting to see Ben, but instead I saw a tall skinny white girl, with messy hair and dirty features.

I moved away from the corner and gulped nervously, trying to figure out a way to get past her without alerting her.

I didn't even know there was another person here.

Crud, what if there are more?

I looked down at Samuel who looked up at me, his furrowed eyebrows and frown indicting that he was scared.

I lightly squeezed his small hand and smiled reassuringly. I wasn't going to let anything happen to him or Alex or any of the kids.

Nobody else was going to die, that's a promise.

I looked straight ahead, seeing the front door right there, and wanting nothing more then to sprint towards it and enter the car. But I couldn't, not without risking the girl seeing us in the open.

Alex was beginning to stir awake, and he murmured which made me freeze in panic.

The whistling stopped and so did the water. "Is somebody there?" The girls voice was playful, almost in a teasing way.

I quickly backed away from the corner and with Samuel I dragged us back into another room. One that didn't have a lock.

I closed the door softly and quietly before letting out a breath of relief.

I put Alex onto the bed who was awake and dazed. He looked at me oddly. "Scarlet?" He muttered, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

I smiled, incredibly happy that he was awake and okay. I engulfed him into a hug, and kissed his head. Samuel joined in.

"I'm so happy you're okay, how are you feeling bud?" I asked quietly.

I pulled away from Alex, while Samuel hopped up on the bed, siting right beside him.

"My head hurts." Alex said reaching up to the place where a lump was growing. He hissed when he touched it. "Ouch!" He quickly removed his hand.

I frowned. "Here let me see." I said softly.

Alex looked up a me so I could get a better looked. Lightly I touched it and he flinched, then I sung the old tune my mom use to sing to me every time I got hurt.

"Sana, sana, colito de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana." I muttered.

I looked down at Alex and smiled. "Better?" I asked.

Alex grinned and nodded.

"Good." I stood up straight again, and walked back over towards the door. I put my ear to it, and held the wooden stake in my hand tightly.

"Okay boys, we have to be very quiet. Alex you and Samuel have to do everything I say. Okay?" I said, trying to explain to Alex what needs to happen.

"Are we playing a game?!" He asked excitedly.

I thought about it for a second before shrugging. "Sure." I agreed.

Alex and Samuel hopped off the bed, walking beside me. Alex wobbled for a second, which worried me, but he soon regained his posture and walked normally again.

With the boys now behind me, I carefully opened the door, and checked the hallway to make sure it was cleared.

When I was sure that it was, I quietly walked out, and checked to make sure the boys were still following me.

They both looked up at me waiting for me.

I turned around again, and checked around the corner for the girl I saw earlier. She was now facing the other way, sitting at the table eating what I presumed was the leg I saw in the room earlier.

I wanted to vomit.

Her back was turned towards us so I knew this was our opportunity to leave.

I turned back to the boys and crouched down to their level.

"Okay. We are going to race to that door." I pointed to the front door across from us. " The fastest person to reach the door wins." I whispered lowly.

The boys nodded.

I stood back up and moved them in front of me.

"One, two, three-" I checked to make sure she was still eating and facing away from us.

She was. "Go!"

The boys sprinted to the door, their steps loud enough to alert the girl. "Stop!!"

"Boys run to the car, hurry!" I screamed running behind them, to make sure nothing happened to them.

Alex reached the front door first, Samuel right after him.

"Hey!" The girl screamed at us.

Alex fidgeted with the door before unlocking it and throwing it open. He and Samuel raced to our car that was still parked out front.

I quickly followed after them, the girl almost reaching us. I slammed the door shut giving us a few more seconds to make our escape.

The kids reached the car but it was locked. "Open the door!" Alex and Samuel screamed banging on the car door.

I reached the car too, and saw Alize and Nya with tears falling down from their eyes. They quickly unlocked the car door, and as soon as the door was open, Alex and Samuel flew inside.

I climbed inside the driver's door.

I locked the car doors, and turned the car on. "Alize reach in the duffle bags and pass me one of the guns! Hurry!" I yelled.

Alize who was still crying did as she was told. And with shaking hands she passed me an AR-15. I grabbed the gun and put the window down to the passenger door.

"Everyone cover their ears and get down!" I yelled.

The kids all shuffled and followed my instructions, the boys were now crying as well, their nerves and feelings getting the best of them.

The girl who was chasing after us froze midway and raised her hands in the air.

"Don't shoot! We can wor-"

I didn't wait to hear her plea, instead I shot her straight through the head. Her body fell limply to the ground with a thud.

The loud sound of the gunshot made my ears ring, but only for a minuet. I regained my composure and turned back to the kids, mentally counting them to make sure they were all here.

And they were, but we were still missing Samantha and Adriel.

"What happened?" I demanded, lowering the gun and putting the window back up.

Alize and Nya slowly sat up, shaking from sobs.

"The old man- h-he hit Sam on the head really hard!" Alize wailed.

Nya wiped her eyes, still shaking softly. "Sammie was running to the car and screaming with Bebe in her arms. But when Ben hit her she fell to the ground!" Nya hiccuped.

My nervous we're getting the better of me, and I wanted to cry from fear. I was scared. Frightened. We've never encountered dangerous people before and Mom was the one who took care of us.

But now it's just me.

Ben and who knows who else, has Sammie and Adriel!

I'm not cut out for this, I'm not brave or strong enough.

"The baby was crying really loud but we were too scared to do anything." Nya said, tearing up again.

I sighed and went to hug the sobbing girls. "It's okay." I murmured.

Even if I did believe I wasn't strong or brave enough, there was nobody else who could possibly take care of these children and save Samantha and Adriel.

It was just me, they needed me. And I wasn't going to let them down.

Not now, not ever.

"I'm going to go and get them." I stated, accepting the fact that I was no longer allowed to be selfish.

Nya and Alize both calmed down a little, no longer sobbing.

I looked at the passenger seat, noticing a handgun with a silencer on it. I grabbed it and checked if it was fully loaded.

"Here." I handed the gun to Alize.

"If anyone that is not Sammie, or Adriel comes to you. Do not hesitate to shoot them okay?" I instructed.

Alize grabbed the gun hesitantly and nodded. "You hold the gun like this and you aim with this." I instructed the posture she should take to properly shoot a gun.

I flipped safety on. "Turn safety off before you shoot, and until you are ready to shoot, keep your finger off the trigger." Alize held the gun in her lap, and I looked at them.

All the kids were still crying. All of them scared for their lives. It panged my heart to see them like this.

"Don't hesitate Alize, promise me." I repeated. I made eye contact with her, and she nodded furiously, sniffling and wiping her tears away.

"I- p-promise." Her voice shaking.

I nodded, and hopped out of the car. Holding the AR-15 in my hands and running back inside the house to find Sammie and Adriel.

Nobody I cared about was going to die.

Not again.
