"How do you know how to get up here?" I asked, climbing up the ladder and reaching up to let Nico help me up.

A couple of hours later Nico and I were still up. At first we sat infront of the mattress store, talking aimlessly about our old lives. Then it got depressing so we decided to look around. Well, more so Nico showing me around because he apparently already had a tour of the mall.

I was no longer crying, of course it's only been a couple of hours and the wound on Emmett's death was still sore. Even if he wasn't blood, he was like another older brother I never wanted.

I stumbled a bit when my right foot got caught on the last past of the ladder. Nico however caught me, and steadied me. I was gripping onto his shirt, and I felt my face get warm when I realized how close we were. Thank god for the dark.

I got a hold of my footing, and fixed my stance so that I no longer was leaning on Nico. I also fixed his shirt, seeing it crinkled from my tight hold.

Nico chuckled, looking down at me with a smile. "When I was talking with those girls, they showed me up here." He informed me.

His arm that was firmly wrapped around my waist, loosened when I took a step away from him. He dropped his arm completely and I crossed my arms over my chest, turning away from him to look at the buildings near us. It was a little bit chilly out, but it was expected in November.

"Oh come on." He laughed a couple of steps behind me. "Don't be like that."

I shrugged innocently, looking over my shoulder at him. "Be like what?" I asked.

Nico rolled his eyes walking up to me. I turned back around and glanced around the dark parking lot. It wasn't exactly empty, there was a few rotters not too far away and the cars covered the parking lot.

"They mean nothing to me. Not like that anyways." Nico stated calmly.

My eyebrows raised and I turned to give him a knowing look. "That's not what you were saying earlier today." I muttered.

I know. I said I'd drop it but come on. I had to give him shit about it. Otherwise what kind of person do you think he'd take me for? If I let him get off easy he'll turn around and do it again, or probably cheat next time. Who knows, you can never trust a boy.

Even if he is your best friend. That's what my sister always told me.

Nico gave me a blank look. "Really? We're back to this?" He asked. "I already told you. I just didn't want to be rude."

I turned my gaze away from his charming eyes, walking closer to the edge of the roof. I sat down, not too close by the edge but close enough to see everything below us. "Yes, that's what you said." I mocked, rolling my own eyes. "You also said you liked the attention." I mumbled, looking up at him.

Nico sighed exasperatedly, taking a seat beside me. He grabbed my right hand, and I turned my focus back on him.

"I know and I'm sorry." He apologized. "I'm deeply..truly...sorry." He looked up at me, meeting my eyes. "Your attention is the only one I need."

I huffed lightly, biting back a smile.

"Is that what you want me to say?" He teased, smirking, I gave him a blank look and he smiled.

I rolled my eyes, punching his shoulder playfully. "Jerk." I muttered.

Nico laughed. "I really am sorry though. I should have went with you." He said, getting serious.

I looked away once more, not out of the fact that I couldn't meet his eyes but because I heard something that caught my attention.

"It was dumb of me not to go with you, especially because I only stayed to talk with those girls about-"

"-Nico." I interrupted, standing up to try and look for the suspicious noises I was hearing.

Normally I wouldn't be alarmed, because it'd probably be walkers, but it didn't sound like groans or moans, it sounded like talking. More specifically hushed voices. And at this time, everyone should be sleeping. I looked down at my watch, furrowing my eyebrows. It was nearly four in the morning, why is anyone up at this time?

Nico became silent, standing up with me and looking in the direction I was looking towards. We walked to the far right of the mall roof, almost towards the back and my eyes narrowed down at the people and trucks along with them.

"Where are they?" We heard a voice asked. It sounded incredibly familiar to me, and I racked my brain. Where did I hear that voice from? I turned to look at Nico, who tensed at the voice, an alarming look covering his features.

"Inside, they're in the warehouse. You promise not to hurt my people right? You only get the new group that's the deal." Nico and I stiffened, sharing a look. Fucking Remy. I knew I didn't like him for a reason.

I looked back down, and watched as the guy who was with Remy signal his guys with his hand. He nudged his head towards Remy. "Kill'm." That's when the voice registered.

Could it be?

"What?" Remy inhaled sharply as he was grabbed by two guys before another one shot him in the head. The shot was barely heard, and I knew they had a silencer. Remy's body went limp and they threw him on the ground like he was a dirty animal. Like they didn't just take a life.

Finally the guy, who is the leader stepped into the light. I could see him clearly now, and my heart began to pound in my chest. Don looked around, running his tongue over his teeth before making a clicking noise. He looked down at Remy, who's limp hand was on his boot.

Don kicked it away and looked at him with disgust. "You know the drill. Kill the men and take the women." Don said darkly looking away from Remy, and glancing around. "Nobody touches the group, and that girl-" Don looked up towards the roof where we were. Nico and I quickly stepped back away from the edge, the dark of the night keeping our presence a secret.

"That black little girl. That bitch is mine."

I felt Nico grab me, and pull me closer to him. As if in a protective manner. I would awe at the motion but I was too busy thinking about what the hell we were going to do and how we were going to get everyone out alive.

Instinctively I reached for my honey badger before realizing I had left it back in the car, my Ar-15 was in the mattress store. I looked over to Nico, seeing that he as well had left his gun.

"We need to warn the others." He whispered in my ear.

I nodded, and together we ran back to the ladder. We didn't know how much time we had left, they were right outside after all. But we slid down the ladder, Nico first and then me.

He waited for me to reach the bottom before we sprinted back to the warehouse mattress store.

It was late, and I'm sure everyone was sleeping or getting ready to sleep. So when we barged into the store, with panicked expressions. Nobody noticed because they were all sleeping, everyone but for Logan, Juan, and the guy with the wired bat.

Nico and I looked for Logan, our group leader. He'd know what to do.

"Logan!" I yelled in a hushed voice.

Logan who was talking with Juan and the guy with the barbed wired bat, looked over to me. They were on watch, it's why they aren't asleep. Nico and I approached him, both of us trying to catch our breaths. The ladder was all the way across the mall, it was a long sprint to say the least.

"Don." I panted.

"He's here." Nico finished for me.

Logan and Juan's eyes widened.

"What?" Logan questioned.

The guy with the bat looked at Logan, obviously confused. "Remy brought him. Don and his men killed him." I rushed out. Looking around at all the people.

"Wait wait. Slow down." Juan instructed. "How you know all this?"

Fifteen, not including my group. We had to get fifteen people out alive.

"We were up on the roof, we saw them." Nico answered for me, glancing at me before turning to Juan.

"On the roof? You went off to venture again?!" Logan questioned, turning to me with a stern look. "Especially without notifying us!?"

I rolled my eyes, sharing a quick glance with Nico. "That's beside the point Logan!"

He shook his head at me, and turned back to Nico. "And you're sure it was Don?" Logan asked him.

"Yeah, we're positive." He nodded.

Logan sighed, and turned to Juan.

"Juan go and wake Alaina, and Sarah. Scarlet and Nico, get Zoey and Zack." Logan quickly instructed before he turned to the man. "Owen, you need to wake your people up we need to go now. Tell them to grab what they need, and meet us by the main entrance."

I didn't get to hear what else he instructed before Nico and I went to look for Zoey and Zack.

Nico and I decided to spilt up, checking the beds before I found them on a bunk bed. Zoey was on the bottom while Zack was snoring on the top. Haviel and Marisa were on another bed beside them, where Juan was already informing them about our current situation.

I watched Haviel reach to wake Zack up and Marisa wake Zoey. "We need to go." I told them, looking up at Zack who sat up mumbling his confusion.

"What's going on?" He asked tiredly, jumping out of the bed from the top bunk.

I felt something cold on my arm and I turned to see it was my Ar-15 I had brought. Nico handed me my rifle, and I placed the strap over my head, watching him do the same with his gun.

"It's Don, he's here." Alaina explained appearing beside Juan with Sarah.

Sarah went over to Zack, pulled him close to her and kissed his head. She had a worried look, as did everyone else. But Sarah seemed the most scared. I don't blame her, she used to be married to Don.

Juan handed Alaina and Sarah rifles before Zack grabbed his and Zoey took out her hand gun.

"What? How did he know-"

"Remy." Juan almost growled. "Vamonos." He instructed, leading the way out.

We met up with Logan at the entrance, and the guy who I now know is Owen was standing right beside him with his people. The red headed women was standing beside him, along with the other people who I didn't know. Or cared to know anyways. The three girls that Nico was talking with were standing behind the red head, and Logan only nodded at Owen before he shouted orders to his group to head out.

Logan led our group out first, and we all jogged to the front entrance. As we walked I looked back to see Owen, leading his group right behind us.

"We're taking the Path Finders. Owen and his group are taking the Honda, the escalade, and the truck." Logan told us. "Scarlet, Nico, Zack and Alaina. You're riding with me."

I nodded, and as soon as we reached the mall doors gun shots rang out. I ducked, and Nico grabbed my hand, pulling me behind a bench. Together we pushed the bench over so it could cover us. Everyone scattered, running for cover or firing their guns back.

"Don't even think about running! You're not getting away from me this time!" I heard Don shout over the gunshots.

I looked around the room to see Logan hiding behind a wall with Alaina. He gave me a stern look before looking across the hall towards the doors. I glanced around the room for the rest of my group, but I couldn't see them because of the commotion.

Owen and his group were having a shoot out with Don's men, and the sound of screams filled the air. People began to race out the mall doors, making it hard to look for the rest of my people. "Lets go!" Out of nowhere, Logan and Alaina ran over to us, grabbing us and pulling us towards the doors.

"Sarah!" I heard Don shouted like a mad man.

I turned back to see multiple people on the floor, dead. I didn't have any time to look them over one by one, all I know is that there was so much blood it practically became the new floor.

When we reached the doors my eyes made contact with Don's crazed ones. I couldn't help myself but to lift my hand up and stick out my middle finger. Don's narrowed his eyes at me, and I felt as if everything was in slow motion. He raised his gun up at me, but I was long gone before he had the chance to shoot.

Together we all ran to the pathfinder, Zack already being there with Juan and the others. Seeing them I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding in. Then I looked them over, being close enough to notice Zack's bloodied hands and his teary eyed expression. I furrowed my eyebrows, realizing Sarah wasn't with them.

"Sarah?" I feared to ask.

Zoey shook her head sadly, and I pushed back the sudden want to cry. My eyes already ached from crying over Emmett, I can't believe we lost Sarah too.

"We need to go." Juan instructed, unlocking the car.

Juan, Haviel, Marisa, and Zoey hopped inside the other pathfinder. I looked at Zack, my eyebrows furrowed. "Zack..She's in a better place." I didn't know what to say, but letting him know that she no longer had to live through this kind of pain was the only reassuring thing I could manage.

Zack only glanced at me, before he turned and walked over to our pathfinder. I took in a deep breath, turning my attention to the rest of us, waiting for Logan to unlock the back doors so we could get in the car.

Once he opened the car Zack got into the backseat from the right door while I climbed in from the left. Nico followed in after me, grabbing my hand and holding it. I could tell from the sadness in his eyes the loss of Sarah hurt him as well, and I couldn't help but feel devastated as well.

"I'm so sorry man." Nico told Zack sadly, scooting forward so he could see Zack better.

Zack's bottom lip quivered, and he shook his head before he broke into a sob. I put an arm around him, letting him cry on me. Zack lost his only parent he had left, what's worst, he won't even get to bury her.

When Logan backed up, I looked out through the back window to see Owen running towards my truck, instructing what was left of his people to get into the back as well as handing the keys to the other cars.

I looked up ahead to see Juan's black pathfinder in front of us, already turning out into the dark street to head back to our house.

Zack leaned away from me, turning in his seat to cry in secret. More shots rang out and I ducked, getting down. I felt Nico put a hand on my back, crouching to protect himself as well.

"Everyone okay?!" Logan asked us, getting us away from the commotion.

Everyone mumbled a yes, and once we were out of the strip mall parking lot I sat back up in my seat, Looking behind us to see Owen and the other people following us.

More shots were heard before finally the silence filled the night air once more.

I turned back in my seat, sitting in it the right way and putting my seatbelt on. I looked over at Nico, seeing that he didn't have his and motioned for him to do the same.

He didn't seem to understand my hand gestures so I reached over him and buckled him up instead.

When I sat back down in my seat, I glanced over at Zack, and placed my hand on his back, rubbing circles.

Loosing a parent is one of the hardest things anyone could go through. I would know. I know how it feels and I know exactly what not to say. 'I'm sorry.' Being one of them. I also know that he's probably going to feel at fault, and that he needs space and time. Lots of time.

I can't believe we lost two of our own in one day. One. Day.

And it's all because of Remy.

Forgive me for saying this, or don't. But i'm glad Remy is dead, otherwise I would have killed him myself. And it wouldn't have been a gunshot to the head, it would have been a painful, and slow death.

He deserved that.
