A white ray of light vividly fell on her eyes as Tuli opened her eyes. The light was so strong that she needed to raise her hand to guard her eyes.
"Where am I?" She whispered seeing nothing around her but that glow. "Shuvro!!!" She screamed.
"Do you believe in an afterlife?" A voice came from her behind. Tuli jumped up hearing the voice. She was hearing the voice after what it seemed like a birth. But how could she listen to him? How could it be? Was it possible? Turning around with a jolt that same bright smile in front of her wiped away all her thoughts.
"Sumedh!" A yelp of joy came out of her mouth but like a murmur. Cries of happiness and disbelief ran down her eyes.
"Hey!" He said with that same mischievous smirk he used to have. Rushing like a wind she ran at him and jumped in his arms having her eyes welling up. Engulfing her in his arm he smiled. Having her arm tightly around him she closed her eyes in peace.
"I miss you so much!" She cried. "I miss this!" and tightened her embrace around him.
"I am always here Tuli. Always!" Sumedh chuckled softly. "And I am so so very much proud of you my love."
"Wait! But how am I seeing you?" She looked up at him. "Am I dead?"
"Not yet! You need to go back." He smiled.
"But it's fine!"
"No my love. It's not your time yet." Sumedh smiled coping her cheek in his hand. "You yet to live a long and happy life with your man. Shuvro needs you. He needs you more than you ever needed me. You need to go back."
"He is right!" Another voice called her from around and there she saw her baba was standing over there.
"Baba!" She screamed before running and hugging her old man. Leaping on his chest tears kept running from her eyes. "I am so sorry Baba! I am so very sorry!"
"Oh, my child I can never be mad at you! You have always made me so happy! I am so happy for you Tuli! You were and always be the most beautiful gift life had given me!" Mr Sengupta planted a kiss on her forehead. "And you need to go back my child." He loosened his embrace around her. With tears in her eyes, Tuli looked up at the two of the most loved men in her life smiling down at her.
Sumedh's hand raised up to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear like he used to and whispered "and Tuli, he needs to know."
His words made her gulp the lump inside her throat. Her eyes widened. Grabbing his hand she spoke "Sumedh I..."
But making her stop he said, "I know!" Tears at the corner of his eyes sparkled, "but he doesn't. And you need to tell him. It's fine. Because I will always love you no matter what. For I know I have spared him this birth. And I will wait right here for you."

Beep! Beep! Beep!

The bored lone sound of the monitor and a spark of electric shock running up and down her body welcomed her back into senses. Flattering her eyes open Tuli gasped widely. For a moment she couldn't understand whether she was still hallucinating or not.
"She is in! She is in!" Someone screamed and then the lady started patting her cheeks "Hey, woman! Hey! Can you hear me! Hey!" Tuli didn't remember if she had answered. She felt so sleepy. "Come on move her! Move! Fast!" She heard the same voice before again losing her senses and the memory of hallucinations got lost in oblivion.

Again the boring sound of the monitor brought her back. Opening her eyes she looked around. The scene was so familiar to her. Unknowingly and instantly her eyes ran towards the visitor's chair in her room but she didn't see the person she was hoping there. The needles prickling on her skin made her realise her the pain her body was in. She realised the presence of the oxygen mask and a sudden pain in her lower abdominal. Looking around the room she could see the words I.C.U. written in big red words at the glass door.
"You are up!" A smiling nurse gritted her. "How are you feeling?" Tuli nodded at her and as she was about to ask the very question she had in her mind since she gained her sense, the nurse went out saying "let me inform the doc!"

The doctor came and after checking her she asked the nurse to remove the oxygen mask as Tuli told she could breathe otherwise. She told her that for the last two days she was kept in this I.C.U. and under observation.
She knew she had bandages around her shoulder. The doctor confirmed the occurrence of a fracture there.
"You will be fine Mrs Roychowdhuri." The lady doctor smiled. "You will be transferred to the general bed soon. I will inform your family. Once you get moved to the general room, you will get to meet them."
"My - my husband?" In a week voice, Tuli asked. "He was... He was in the car with me."
The doctor took a look of her before answering her, pondering over the answer she was about to give Tuli. And then bringing the smile again she said. "He - is also admitted here too. He will be fine too. You don't need to worry at all. Just relax!" And then asked the nurse to increase the amount of the painkiller.
Looking at herself Tuli could imagine it was impossible for Shuvro to be completely fine. He was in the driver seat! And the doctor's face was telling her things were not as right as she was being said. And then she realised something.
"I- I was pregnant doc!" A lone tear came down of her eyes as she realised the presence of a sanitary pad between her legs.
The doctor sorrowfully looked at her. She needed not to tell her anything that could cause Tuli any stress, but she knew, that she already knew. Heaving a sigh in a soft tone she informed. "We couldn't save the baby, mam. I am sorry."

*

"I am so so sorry!" Tuli's mother kept telling her grabbing her hand in her's tight. The old lady cried and cried patting Tuli's head. Like a dumbfound woman Tuli stayed half lying on her bed of the general room. The room had another bed which was empty now. She felt the pale blue wall of the room felt sad for her as well. Everyone around her was so tiptoeing. But what was she feeling? The baby inside her was dead! She didn't know how her husband was as no one was telling her truthfully. She had asked her mother too but all she was doing was crying and saying sorry. For what exactly? For her baby? Or there was more reason?
Was she sorry too? Did she felt anything for the baby other than the shooting pain in her lower core?
Yes! Yes, she did! She felt for losing the fetus which could have been her child. But what she felt now more vividly than the loss was the worry. Someone! Was not there someone she could ask. How and where was her husband and when could she see him?
Her mind was crying anticipating something more dangerous.
The nurse came and asked her mother to leave and have something to eat as Tuli needed to rest now. Her mother, making her eat took leave and Tuli again started dozing off.

The next day morning Arun came inside the room with an ear to ear grin.
"You made me so afraid Tuli!" Hugging her tightly he said. Tuli smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine." She smiled weekly.

"How is Shuvro?" After the exchange of whereabouts of both Tuli asked and someone took all the colour of Arun's face. Looking at that Tuli grabbed his hand tightly "No one's telling me rightly enough and I know, I know something is not right. Tell me correctly how is he? Where is he? Is he fine?" Tears ran down her cheeks and she breathed out her fear. "Is he alive?"
Arun with a jolt looked up at her fearful face. " he is alive Tuli. He is alive. Of course, he is."
A deep exhale came out of her releasing her into relief. "Then where is he?"
"He is yet to come into consciousness." Instead of Arun, the answer came from someone who just entered the room. Arun closed his eyes in defeat as Tuli snapped her face to look Ratul walking near her bed. "Nor he is responding. In more formal language Tuli, coma." His lips sat in a straight line as he said.
"He is in a coma?" She murmured looking at Ratul. The word started ringing in his head.
With the intention of ranting Ratul came into her room. He wanted her to realise what she had brought onto his best friend. He wanted to curse her for trying to take him yet again from his life. He wanted to say everything out loud what he was constantly doing in his mind in these two days. He wanted to say all those things what he said calling Butu last night. He cursed the day Butu came into Shuvro's life with his friends. That bastard didn't seem bothered by the curse but went on in a verbal fight with him as he refused to tell how Shuvro and Tuli were now.
"You asshole tell me if they are fine now or not, or I will - I swear I will thump you coming there!" Butu howled.
"You set one of your foot in Kolkata and I will shove you alive inside the ground!" Ratul had said.
And now to scream the same he had come to this room. But looking into the woman's eyes he couldn't. Tuli seemed so weak, so helpless on hearing Shuvro's situation Ratul's every curse turned around.
"Yes, but he will make it." Determinately Ratul said looking into her eyes. His bloodshot eyes bore into Tuli's eyes. His firm voice was nowhere around of being soothing but it had something so strong that made Tuli believing and trusting him.
"Can I see him?" She asked.
"Not yet. You are weak -" Arun tried to say.
"Do I look like I care?" Her cry made him shut up instantly. Sparing him a glare Tuli looked at Ratul "can I?" As if more than knowing the permission from the hospital she was asking Ratul to allow it.
Heaving a sigh Ratul sat down at the footboard of the bed and looking into her eyes he said "the doctor will not let you move yet."
"I can walk."
"Tuli, he is gonna be fine."
"He has to be." More determinedly she said looking at Ratul. "Do you know how stubborn Shuvro Roychowdhuri is? He will never let me go Ratul. Your best friend will come back to you. Trust me. But for now, I need to see him. He needs to know I am around, waiting for him..."...

*hiding* I am sorry.
