I awoke to the sounds of birds chirping outside.

The sound was so familiar, for a brief moment, I almost thought I was back in the cabin with Grey. Until the events of the previous night came crashing over me like a tidal wave.

Confused, I remembered that I had fallen asleep on the floor by the door last night. Now, I was placed in the bed, tucked in. The hand I cut on the glass and hurt while I was pounding against the door was bandaged.

Even more confusing? I didn't have one leg roped to the bed.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed, and stood up, my legs wobbling slightly. I went to the door, turning the knob slowly. To my surprise, the door wasn't locked, and I quietly took a step into the hallway and peaked my head around the corner.

I didn't see anyone, so I continued walking through the house, which resembled more of a cabin. The walls and floor were wooden, the latter covered with soft rugs. There were pictures on the walls, and I didn't waste time examining them, though I did notice that Finn was in a few of them.

Leaving the cabin proved more difficult than I originally thought, as there was a serious of hallways with what seemed like hundreds of doors. I wondered if Finn lived here with others, as it seemed way too big of a house for just one person.

I turned another corner and crashed into a girl about my age. She had short blonde hair, and bright blue eyes. I grabbed her hand and whispered intensely, "Come on, we have to go, there isn't much time!"

She looked at me in surprise. "Hurry!" I hissed. "A psychopath kidnapped me, we can leave before he comes back!"

Her eyes flashed in recognition, sending terror through my spine as she giggled. "I told him that kidnapping you was a bad idea. But did he listen? Of course not."

"No, no, no," I whispered in horror as I yanked my hand away, and started to back up slowly.

"I won't hurt you," the girl said. "We just want to talk."

I collided into a wall that sent electricity through my body. No, not a wall. Finn.

"Onyx, I see you met my sister," He said smoothly as I jumped away from him. "Kallista, leave us for a minute."

The blonde girl glares at him and turns away but before leaving us in the hallway mutters, "Told you kidnapping her wasn't the right way to go."

Finn rolls his eyes, but they soften as his gaze falls on me. "How is your hand?"

"Why did you leave the door unlocked?" I ask, directly to the point as I narrow my eyes and cross my arms.

He sighs. "I don't want you to be a prisoner here, Onyx."

"So, you're letting me go?" I say in surprise.

"Well... Not yet," He says slowly, and I scoff. "I just want to talk. Just here us out, and if you still want to go... I'll let you."

"That's all?" I clarify. "I listen to you talk, and then I can leave?"

He nods solemnly. "I won't stop you from leaving. You have your magic back, you could leave now if you wanted to. I'm just asking you to hear me out."

"I don't owe you anything," I say, my voice hard, emotionless. I don't recognize it as my own.

"No," He agrees. "You certainly don't."

My eyes narrow further as I examine his face for any signs of deception. Surely he wouldn't just let me go, not after all of the hassle of getting me here. I should turn around and sprint for the door, using my magic to stop everyone in my way, but the pleading look on his face stops me. Plus, he said he would let me go if I listened, and I at least want to know why he kidnapped me, and why he thinks we're mates.

"Fine," I say hesitantly. "But I'm leaving right after."

He exhales in relief, nodding. "Come, let's go downstairs. There are some people I want you to meet." After seeing the look on my face, he elaborates, "They will help it all make sense, I promise."

He leads the way, easily navigating the corridors. We finally reach the front of the cabin, where a group of four wolves are sitting in the living room with the blonde girl I ran into earlier.

"Onyx, this is my family," Finn says with pride. "You already met Kallista. Sitting next to her is Astrid," A girl with pin-straight dark hair nods once, her face serious, though Kallista is smiling. "Astrid is Will's mate," A guy with short black hair waves, his expression friendly. "The two scary looking twins are Ronin and Dean." The two males looked almost exactly alike with shaggy blond hair and bright blue eyes, but one of them has a long scar running down the side of his face.

The one with the scar scoffs, "Who are you calling scary looking? I'm the most attractive person here."

Kallista snorts, "I'd take Ro over you any day."

The corner of the other twin's mouth turned up slightly at that, but he said nothing. Finn interjected, "Please guys, focus for one second would you?" His tone is slightly annoyed, but anyone could see the affection he felt for the wolves. "Onyx needs to hear about what we do here."

One of my eyebrows quirked up, and all of their faces became solemn at his words. "I guess I'll start the story from the start," Finn says, his voice much more clear and confident than it was when it was just us. He takes a seat on the arm of reclining chair as he talks, but I stay standing in the entry, ready to bolt immediately if necessary.

"Kallista and I were born as rogues. Our parents fled a tyrannical Alpha, deciding that even living in the wild was safer than living under his rule. Despite their best attempts to lay low, avoid dangerous rogues, they were eventually killed when we were in our teens. Despite how lethal some rogues may be, throughout our youth, we met friendly ones. People like us, people who just didn't want to live under the control of Alphas, who just wanted to be free.

Upon their death, I realized that I wanted to create a safe place, a space where rogues could live without being in fear every second of their life. Most rogues don't live more than a few years in the wild, you know. The life expectancy is low, one of the worst parts about being rogue, wolves often sacrifice years of their life just for the chance to not live under the oppressive rule of Alphas and packs.

So, I spent years building this house, a house big enough to fit entire families of rogues. Kallista and I would run into rogues, and invite them to stay under our protection. Some declined, but others, like everyone in the room, decided to stay.

Today, we house fifty rogues. They are bound to no rules besides not to kill innocents, and most importantly, to look after each other. Despite the dangers of being a rogue, we have found strengths in numbers, in looking out for each other. Rogues who may turn evil or violent from years of living in fear and solitude now have a place to live in peace. A family.

You were a rogue, Onyx," He says as he turns to me. "You know how dangerous it is to be alone. We fight that. Fight for each other. Stay," He insists. "Help us find the lone rogues, bring them here, protect them. All we want is peace, safety. You would never have to kill anyone, deal with pack politics, with Alphas," He says that last word scornfully.

I stand in shock, considering his words. "So?" Kallista asks finally, none of them daring to break the silence besides her. "What do you say?"

Stay... or go?
