Chapter  |  Good Times

Part  |  Two

I smiled as I looked at myself in the mirror. I was dressed in a strapless knee length red dress with a pair of red heels. Some of my curly hair was pulled back into a ponytail held by a white flower hair clip while some of it flowed over my shoulders. My lips were a bright red color while my eyes had gray eye shadow.

I looked beautiful tonight, and I knew once John stepped out of the bathroom, he would think the same. Just as I heard the bathroom door creak open I placed my hands on the pearl necklace wrapped around my neck I slowly turned around to face him. He was dressed in black dress pants and a black dress shirt with black dress shoes. He looked somewhat ready, but all he needed to do was put on his tie and suit jacket.

As soon as these thoughts come to me, he points to the red tie around his neck. "Babe, mind helping me put this on?"

I smile and give him a small nod. "Sure."

As I'm tying it, he just rests his hands on my waist and slowly moves them back to my bottom. I blush and continue with tying his tie. When I'm finally done I pat his chest and take a step back. He gives me a quick thanks before slipping on his suit jacket and buttoning it up. While he's doing this, he's watching me as I watch him. "You know, you look really sexy tonight, I don't know if I'll be able to keep my hands off of you."

I giggle and shake my head in amusement. "You better Jonathan Schmidt, or else I swear I'll kick you in the crotch."

He winces. "Ouch, you're a violent one aren't you? And I just love it when you say my name, especially when I'm giving you---"

"Okay, okay shut up and let's go before we're late," I say as I cover my ears with my hands.

He chuckles and smacks my bottom before taking my hand in his. Once we exit the house, John opens and closes the car door for me before getting in on the driver's side. The drive to John's parents' house was about an hour away. They were hosting a party to basically give congratulations to John for being the next person in line to run his father's company. It's been a month since John had told me about the promotion, but he wasn't necessarily running the company just yet. His father wanted to finish what he started before handing the company over to his son. John's father had been doing less and less work as the weeks went by because John insisted he'd get prepared for the amount of work he would receive. Tonight, John would be just regular old John working for his father, but tomorrow morning when he went in for work, he'd be the owner of his father's company.

When we pulled up in John's parents' circular driveway it was already filled with other cars. It took a while for us to find somewhere to park before we finally found one and headed inside. As soon as John and I stepped inside, my eyes immediately landed on John's mother, Alexandria, who was speaking with a man and woman who looked to be in their mid-thirties. As if sensing someone was watching her, she turned towards me and a huge smile broke on her face. She turned towards the man and woman and said something to them before hurrying over to where I stood.

"There's my daughter in law! I was starting to think that you two weren't coming. What took so long?" she asked looking worried and slightly puzzled.

I smirked and nodded my head in the direction of her son, who stood beside me with his arm around my waist. "Your son here can't seem to keep his, "mini me" under control."

Her eyes widened in surprise before they formed into slits. "Jonathan Thomas Schmidt, do you not realize how big this night is?" He opens his mouth to say something, but before he can she continues. "You obviously don't because if you did you would be able to get through one night without craving sex."

His eyes widen and he raises his hands in the air. "Mom, are you serious? Just look at Stephanie. If you were me you would have the same exact problem."

She rolls her eyes just as John's father, Michael, appears from behind her and wraps his arms around her waist. "There you are I've been looking all over the place for you my little lamb."

John groaned from beside me. "Mom, dad, we're right here you know?"

Alexandria giggled. "Yes, we know my dear."

John grimaced before taking my hand and guiding me outside to where most of the people were. Everybody was laughing, drinking, and some were even dancing. I smiled at the sight before suddenly I felt John squeeze my hand. I jumped and he chuckled.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, but I was just wondering if you would like something to drink?" he asked, as a grin slowly formed on his face.

I smile and nod my head. "Yes, please."

He nods his head and kisses me on the cheek and says, "Stay here," before disappearing back inside the house. As I stand there waiting for John, I look around at everybody having a great time and smile. As my eyes wander around they suddenly land on a figure sitting on a stone bench just a little ways form the party. I look around slowly before slowly making my way to the person on the bench. As I got closer, I noticed the way he went still as I got closer. I stood behind the man for a few seconds before taking a seat next to him. We're silent until he says something lower than a whisper.

"Um...I'm sorry, what was that?" I ask.

He turns towards me and smiles. "You're Stephanie Schmidt, wife of Jonathan Schmidt."

I feel the blood rush to my cheeks and quickly look down to hide it, but since we were a little far from the party it was probably too dark to see anyways. "How would you know that?"

He smirks before taking a swig from the bottle of whiskey I hadn't noticed in his hands before. "Well, it was on the news for one. Do you not know who the Schmidt's are? Of course something as big as that made it onto television."

I raise an eyebrow. "That's it?"

The corner of his lip twitches before finally it falls into a straight line. "I'm John's cousin. I was there for the wedding."

"Oh..." I say. It's silent again, but not an awkward silence. I stared up at the moon for a second before turning towards John's cousin. "So, why are you sitting here all alone? Shouldn't you be over there with everyone else enjoying the party?"

He looks at me and raises and eyebrow. "What about you huh, shouldn't you be over there with your hubby? I'm surprise he doesn't have you at his side right now as we speak. This is the longest I've seen him go in a relationship without having his girl on a tight leash. I'm sure once he finds you he'll have you at his side for the rest of the night. He's probably already looking for you."

My mouth drops open and I look at him with an offended look. "And what exactly is that supposed to mean?"

"Exactly how it sounds," he says before taking another long swig from his bottle.

I narrow my eyes and point a finger at him. "Listen you asshole, you---"

"Stephanie!"

I quickly stand up and turn to face John as he marches over. I let out a sigh of relief before quickly walking around the bench and meet him halfway. As soon as I'm standing in arms reach he roughly grabs my arm and pulls me into him. "What the hell do you think you're doing talking to him? Did I give you permission to leave?"

Permission? I was twenty-two for crying out loud. I didn't need his permission to do anything. "What am I, a child?"

A chuckle floats through the air and I instantly snap my head in the direction of where it came from. I glare at his cousin who is just sitting there looking at us with amusement in his wide eyes. "Told you so."

John's grip tightens and I hiss in pain. "Told you what? What the hell did you tell her?" When he doesn't answer, but take a swig from his bottle once more, he looks at me with his eyes narrowed. "What did he tell you?"

"Nothing, now let go of my arm, you're hurting me, John," I whimper while wincing in pain.

"Well I'll just leave you two to it then. I guess I better go join the rest of the party, give you two lovebirds some privacy, yeah?"

"Matter of fact, why don't you just leave the whole party, Chuck. You have done enough," John says while glaring at him.

Chuck lets out a deep laugh and saunters away while drinking from his bottle. When he's gone, John digs his fingers deeper into my flesh and pulls me to the stone bench I was sitting on only moments ago. He slams me down on the bench and paces in front of me.

"What the hell were you thinking walking off like that? I told you to stay put," he says as he throws his hands up in frustration.

I frown. "I know you did, but I'm your wife John, not your dog."

He growls before roughly grabbing my arm and pulling me into him once again. I yelp in pain when I slam into his chest. I look down and use my free arm to grab onto his tux just so I wouldn't fall if he let me go. He leans in close to my ear before harshly whispering the words, "Don't you ever talk back to me do you understand?"

I try to pull away from him, but his grip on me is tight. "I wasn't talking back, I was just explaining---"

"I thought I told you not to talk back to me?!" he yells.

I feel a salty tear fall frown my eye and over my lips. "John, please I---"

"John, Stephanie, what are you two doing all the way over here. Everybody is looking for," Alexandria says as she comes towards us.

John quickly makes me stand up straight and moves me so I'm standing beside him. He hides my arm behind my back in an awkward position before looking up at his mom with a smile on his face. I look down at the ground once she's close enough to see the tears on my face.

"Sorry, we were just talking. We'll be there in a second, okay?" John says, giving her a reassuring smile.

She smiles back before slowly nodding her head and retreating back to the party. Once she's nothing but a dot in the distance, John lets go of my arm and starts to take off his suit jacket. I rub my arm up and down and let my tears fall down my face.

"Here put this on, it'll hide your arm," he says as he holds out his suit jacket. When I don't take it he slowly crouches down in front of me and looks up at me. "Hey, hey don't cry. I'm sorry I overreacted. Please forgive me, I am so sorry."

I stand there for a moment just looking into his eyes before finally I take the jacket and slowly slip my small arms into it.

He smiles and stands back up. "Forgive me?"

I look up at him before standing on my tip toes and kissing him on the lips. When I pull away I wrap his arm around my waist and snuggle into his side. We slowly make our way back to the party.

Later that night when we arrived back, I may or may have not made the stupidest mistake by having sex with him after what just happened. I knew I should've been cautious and stayed away, but he was my husband and I loved him. That night I was the one who made love to him while he just laid there rubbing his thumbs over my hips.

That night as I laid there wrapped up in his arms I kept asking myself why I hadn't left and why hadn't I told somebody? The answers to both of those questions were simple, I still love him, and I knew that tonight would be a onetime thing. Yeah he may have left a few bruises in the spots where he dug his fingers into my flesh, but it wasn't like he hit me. And I knew that he would never do such a thing because he was John. John wouldn't hurt a fly. John wasn't a violent man.

Oh, if only I knew....
