Chapter  |  Five Minutes

Part  |  Two

I hadn't gotten any sleep all night. I stayed up all night staring outside the window to make sure we were safe. As soon as Cameron cried out I knew I had to go out and get the ingredients I needed to make him his bottle. When I arrived back to the motel room I fed Cameron his bottle and went back to looking out the window. I'd watch as the cars passed down the street and I watched as families with suitcases or pool noodles climb into their SUV's or vans.

I watched as a red Toyota passed by, a silver Bentley, and red pickup truck. I sigh and wince but don't shut my eyes all the way. I didn't want to close my eyes because I knew once I did tiredness would wash over me like a tidal wave.

I sighed before standing up from the chair I was sitting in before heading over to the bed Cameron was laying asleep on. I opened one of the bags sitting on top of the bed before pulling out a clean set of underwear and clean clothes before grabbing my body wash and shampoo. Quickly I head into the bathroom for a shower and avoid looking into the mirror since I already looked a mess because of the bruises and tiredness in my eyes.

After getting out the shower and changing into a new change of clothing I exited the bathroom and shoved my dirty clothes back inside the bag since I had nowhere else to put them. After zipping the bag back up I sit it down on the floor at the end of the bed and move over to the bed Cameron lay asleep on. I slowly crawl up next him and lay on my back before placing him on my stomach so his back was facing the ceiling. I place my hand on his the back and my other underneath my head.

Maybe I could rest my eyes for just a while?

Slowly my eyes fluttered opened, but I quickly shut them again when the bright sun went into my eyes. Quickly I lifted my head and looked down at my son who was trying his best to move off of me. I giggled and grabbed him under his arms before sitting up. I smiled and nodded my head to every little noise that came out of his pink lips.

"Hi baby! Why did you let mommy sleep so late?" I ask as I look down at him before looking over at the clock. It was a quarter past five. Slowly I lifted him up slightly and smelt his diaper. I grimaced at the smell before leaning up and kissing his lips. "You're a stinky little thing!"

I got out of the bed still holding Cameron in my arms before going to his baby bag and grabbing a clean onesie, diaper, body wash and some wipes before heading into the bathroom. I filled the bath tub with a little water before stripping him out of his pajamas and wet diaper.

After bathing him and clothing him I carried him out the bathroom into the room once again and took a seat in the chair by the window with him still resting in my arms. I continue to watch as people drive in and out of the parking lot and cars pass by the motel. A white semi, a black hummer, and a silver.....Bentley. I narrow my eyes at how many silver Bentley's I've seen in less than twenty-four hours. I saw one last night after leaving the gas station, earlier this morning, and now. Maybe I was just being paranoid, but if I saw one more silver Bentley I would know something was up.

Apparently I wasn't just being paranoid because just a few minutes later I saw a silver Bentley pass by. John didn't own a silver Bentley and I didn't know if John knew somebody with a silver Bentley. Quickly I look over at the clock that read five-thirty five before looking back out the window just as the car disappeared out of sight. I was going to find a pattern so I could make a plan to leave. I knew I shouldn't be worried but I couldn't help but worry since this same car with the same color wouldn't stop passing the motel I was staying at.

Like clockwork, the silver Bentley passed by just as the clock read five-forty. Just as the car disappeared I quickly jumped up from the chair and placed Cameron on my shoulder before rushing towards our bags resting on the floor in front of the bed. Quickly I picked up the room key and headed out the door towards the lobby. I had less than five minutes to return the key, get our stuff and the car, and leave before the Bentley showed up.

I felt bad for rushing the person ahead of me but this was an emergency. Quickly I returned the room key and rushed outside to my car and tossed our bags in the trunk, putting Cameron in his carrier and climbing into the driver's seat. My hands shook as I tried to stick the key in the ignition, but just as I almost had it in I dropped it next to my foot. "Dammit!"

I pick the keys up from the floor and shove the keys in the ignition before putting the car in reverse and pulling out of the parking space. Just as I am about to turn out of the motel parking lot the silver Bentley pulls up but stops unexpectedly. Quickly I slam my foot down on the accelerator and make a sharp turn out of the lot. At the next light I take a left and so does the Bentley. My breathing quickens and I feel sweat forming on my brow. I continue to drive until I see another turn come up.  I continue to drive forward as if I was going to bypass the right turn but at the last minute I make a sharp turn causing my front left tire to go in the grass. In the rear view mirror the Bentley also makes a sharp and picks up speed.

Now I knew I was being followed.

I picked up speed myself and looked forward at the streetlight coming up. The light was yellow, but I knew I would be able to make it and the Bentley wouldn't. I turn left just as the light goes red and the Bentley comes to a quick stop. I look up in the rear view but all I can see are cars passing by which hid the Bentley.

I don't back as I continue to drive down the road. I almost let out a sigh of relief but before I can the sound of something beeping catches my attention. My eyebrows furrow and I slowly look around the car for the noise. Slowly I pull the car over to the side of the road and sit there for a moment before leaning forward to reach underneath the seat. Finding nothing I reach across the passenger seat and pull open the compartment. There are a bunch of random papers and pens in there but I quickly pull them out until I see what was making the noise. My whole face paled and my body shook.

It was a cellphone.

Quickly I jumped out the car and unbuckled Cameron's carrier out from the backseat before grabbing our bags out the trunk. After slamming it shut I tried my best to run into the woods surrounded the road just as the sound of tires screeching sounded somewhere from down the road. I breathed in and out through my nose as I tried my best to carry myself, Cameron's carrier and two bags over my shoulders. Just as I heard car doors slamming shut I found a hole in one of the tree trunks hidden by a few bushes. If they thought about looking for me then they most likely wouldn't see my hiding spot if they walked on the other side of the tree.

"Johnny, you're girl sure is a fast runner!" as unfamiliar deep male voice sounded from where I just stopped the car.

"She's smart too. We probably would have caught her if she hadn't found that phone," another male voice said.

The next person that spoke, I knew the voice all too well. He chuckled. "Well what can I say; she's learned how to run a lot faster after all these years of trying to run away from me. Man how I loved chasing after her up the stairs, great view."

They all chuckled. "You want us to go out and look for the little bitch?"

John chuckled. "No leave her be, she'll show her pretty little face eventually. George you take her car and follow us back."

I close my mouth tight to keep the sobs from leaving my mouth. I silently pray that Cameron won't make any nose and close my eyes tight just as the tears start to fall down my cheeks. As soon as I hear the sound of tires screeching and the sound of engines fading into the distance I let it all out.
