Chapter  |  Breathing In

Part  |  Two

My eyes slowly flickered open and instantly fell on a pair dark blue eyes. I blinked again and watched as John lifted his hand up and caressed the side of my face with his knuckles. I close my eyes and sigh as I move my head closer to his hand. He continues to caress my cheek for a few more seconds before pulling away and just staring at me.

"You're so beautiful," he breathed out.

I know what he had said wasn't true. Last night after he finished bathing me I stood there in the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror. It was a horrific sight to look at; it was almost like I was staring back at a different person. My eye was purple-ish red color, almost my whole face was red and slowly forming a bruise and my bottom lip was split open and swollen.

I was hideous, but I couldn't tell him that. "Thank you."

He smiled before wrapping an arm around me and moving me closer to him. He laid there and looked in my eyes with a small smile on my face before it slowly turned into a frown. "Do you really hate me?"

I looked at him for a moment wondering what he was talking about, but then it hit me. "I didn't mean John, I love you. I was just...mad and upset, so I just said the first thing that came to my mind. I-I'm sorry."

He breathes out through his nose before leaning in and placing a kiss on my lips. He cups my face in his hands while I shut my eyes tight and grab a handful of his shirt underneath the blankets. When he pulls away slightly he whispers, "I forgive you."

I sigh before leaning back in and bringing him in for a more heated kiss.

He rolls us over so I'm lying on my back and he's hovering over me. He pulls away before pecking me on the lips three times and reaching down for the hem of my nightgown. He slowly lifts it up and over my head before throwing it somewhere across the room. He pushes the blankets off of us and onto the floor before leaning back down to kiss me. He slips his tongue inside my mouth and groans before moving down to my neck. He slowly sucked on my neck and looked up at me as he did so.

He rolls off of me before tuning his head so he is facing me. I look over at him and give him a small smile. "I love you."

"And I love you."

Later after we both take showers we head downstairs and he cooked me breakfast. He made me scrambled eggs, waffles, toast, sausage, and bacon. It was a little too much, but I didn't want to tell him that because it would hurt his feelings. I liked this John, the John who did any everything to make me feel happy. Even though he was only doing this because he said he would I still felt as though he was doing this out of the kindness of his heart. He was doing this because the John I married three years ago was still there.

After breakfast he let me go outside in the backyard to get some fresh air. He never liked it when I went out back by myself which is why he sat in one of the wooden recliners and did some work on his tablet. He'd look up every few minutes to make sure I was still there before looking back down at his screen.

I slowly walked barefoot through the grass before stopping and sitting down. I cross my legs and placed my hands in my lap before looking up at the bright sun. It's been a while since I felt the warm sun on my skin. John was only off on Sunday's and could take a day off during the week if he wanted to, but he normally didn't. So the only times I could go outside was if we were going somewhere on his day off or if I asked if I could go out back. He normally wouldn't let me out if I was 'misbehaving', so I tried my best to stay on his good side Friday's and Saturday's.

I take in a deep breath of air before slowly letting it back out. It was nice to finally breathe in the air outside instead of the air inside the house. It was also nice to be able to run around our backyard that went on for miles and miles. The house was a big place, but I had walked down ever hallway and into every bedroom at least a hundred times every month.

Breathing in again I tilt my head back and watch at a butterfly flies by before letting out the breath of air I was holding in. I close my eyes and soak in as much sunlight as I can because I knew I would have to wait until Sunday until John let me out again. Well that was if I was 'behaving',

"Come on Stephanie!"

My eyes snap open and I lift my head up. Was it already time to go back in? We just got out here like ten minutes ago. I wasn't ready to go back inside just yet.

"Stephanie let's go, don't make have to call your name again!"

I sigh and blink a few times to keep my tears from falling. "Coming!"

I quickly stand up and brush off my dress before running through the grass towards the house. I grab my flip flops that I left behind before slowly walking over to John who stood by the backdoor with his arms crossed over his chest. I look down as I get closer to him before stopping in front of him.

"Do you have everything because we're not coming back out for the rest of the day," he says.

I look up at him and nod my head. "Yes I have everything." It's not like I brought anything outside with me in the first place.

He nods his head before gesturing towards the open backdoor. I sigh and look down at the suns warmth leaves my skin and lungs fill with a different kind of air.
