"Never have I dealt with
anything more difficult
than my own soul"

One More Mistake
Chapter twenty-four

❱ Rory wasn't the type to help someone out unless he wanted something from you and right now he needed something. I looked back at Raine who had rolled her eyes before turning to look at Rory who stood behind her. Alec was now staring at him with curiosity and interest while I stood frozen in my spot.

"Since when do you care about what I do with other people?" I took this as my advantage and ripped my arm away from her grip before gripping her arm instead.

"If you ever even come towards me and threatened me again you'll regret it. I know stuff and you wouldn't want that to ruin your... plans right?" As I whispered this to Raine, I looked over at Alec. He didn't seem fazed by my glare at all but I didn't need to see him do anything at all to know what he was feeling.

He was afraid and I couldn't help but smirk in satisfaction. I guess Raine didn't train his little puppy well enough.

Once I leaned away from Raine, I expected her to look angry but she wasn't. She had a smile plastered on her face.

"Your little threats don't scare me but I'll give credit for at least trying. Your new to all this so I'll let it slide but if you even lay a finger on me, I wouldn't be so forgiving. I'll talk to you later." She removed her arm from my grip before walking away. I turn to look at Alec but he was already following her.

Pathetic.

"You just had to get involved with Raine didn't you?" I've forgotten about Rory presence, he still standing in the same spot but he seem to be a bit closer.

"Should I be concerned?" He wasn't actually concerned, his voice came off as teasing and it irked me how well he know how to hit the spot. I didn't answer him and started to walk away but soon stopped when I heard him say a name.

"Sterling definitely would be interested in this, don't you think?" He was trying to provoke me and he was actually achieving it.

"What do you want from me because I know you didn't just want to be my knight in shining armor. You need something and I'm assuming that I'm the only one that can give it to you" I walked slowly towards him.

"Thea Nightingale, I need you" he whispered though I heard every word that came out his mouth.

He didn't need something from me but he needed me and I wasn't sure if I liked that.

"No. I don't want to be a part of it" he seemed to be caught off guard by my response but it didn't stop him from walking towards me.

"You don't understand. I wasn't asking for your permission" I didn't get to say anything else because he grabbed my arm and took me away from the party.

Once we were outside the black curtains, it was then when I started to pull him away but I couldn't. His grip was tight and I almost felt like there was going to be a bruise there. We didn't make it far enough because someone called my name out, making Rory stop on his tracks.

"Where are you taking her, she's my date" I would've been happy if it were anyone else but Alec. I didn't want to be near him, especially knowing that he has a gun on him.

"Well you wouldn't mind if I took her for a while, would you?" Rory didn't let Alec say anything at all because he turned us around to walk away but soon stopped again.

"Actually, I would mind" Alec had his hands on his pockets, a smile on his face. I know that smile and it was everything but genuine.

"She's my fiancée, who are you?" I hated Alec right now, I hated both of them right now especially Rory. His hand was still gripping my arm.

"She's —" he didn't get to finish because I pulled myself away from him.

"She's not a toy who you two can play with and she is not going with any of you two" I looked Rory before making my way out.

I wasn't anyone's anything, they needed to get that straight.
