"Who we are and who we need to be
to survive are
two very different things"

One More Mistake
Chapter twenty-two

❱ Alec has been on his phone for the past ten minutes of the car ride. One of his hands was holding on the steering wheel while the other one gripped his phone. His eyes flickered down at his phone once in a while but almost kept his eyes on the road. Though, I just wanted to snatch his phone out of his hands but not because I wanted him to focus on the road but because I wanted to know who he was texting. Whenever his fingers grazed on his phone, I wondered my eyes on his phone but I didn't see much.

"Can you not be on your phone while driving, it's getting me nervous" I lied. I was nervous but not about that, it was because we didn't know each other at all and he could take me anywhere without me knowing, how could I possibly trust him.

His eyes lifted up from his phone then towards me. He had a strange look on his face, I didn't know what it meant.

"Calm down, I'm not going to hurt you." He started as he looked at the road, his phone still on his hands. "I do this all the time, nothing has ever happened to me—" his voice cracked at the last part before his eyes widened and before I could react I was pushed back with full force. Headlights illuminate the dark night as well as the inside of Alec's car. I lifted my hand up to cover the bright light and finally I was able to understand what happened.

"What the hell! You could've killed us" my voice was cold and I don't why but I sounded scared. I didn't notice the arm covering my stomach until I felt it moving closer to me.

Alec had his arm stretched out in front of me but soon enough he ripped it away. I looked over at him but he was sticking his head outside the window.

"What the fuck man!" I heard his shout out to the driver in front of us. Since our headlights were on his direction, we noticed it was a man who looked confused and maybe a bit drunk.

"My bad, it was my—" Alec didn't let him finish what he was going to say because he turned the wheel and took off.

"I'm fine thanks for asking" I say dryly but Alec doesn't say anything back nor he glances at me. He looked pissed off and I didn't want to piss him off even more so I didn't say anything else for the rest of the car ride.

When Alec finally parked and turned off the car, he looked over at me. His eyes found my mine but soon made their way down my body. Though I was uncomfortable and shuffled on my seat a bit.

"We should go" he didn't say anything else before getting out of the car. I haven't notice my surroundings until I looked out the window and rolled my eyes. I can't believe he brought me here.

I opened the door and closed it before walking towards Alec.

"You know they won't let us in, especially this one" I looked away from Alec then to the club. There was people in lines waiting outside to go inside but I couldn't see that happening. This club was really expensive and popular, you would either need to pay enough to go inside or just make reservations but usually people with a good background would be able to.

He ignored me before walking towards the two security guards who stood by the entrance.

"Alec Armstrong" all he had to say was his name before the two security guards opened up the entrance and let us in. Alec grabbed my wrist and pulled me in the club but before I can pull myself away from him, he let go of me.

"You know, I expected more of a romantic dinner at some fancy restaurant but I guess this is fine" I dragged out the words with sarcasm dripping off.

"Good to know we're in the same page" he didn't wait up for me before walking further in and getting lost in the crowd of people. I didn't chase after him and stood at the same spot. I looked around and noticed that only people with wealth were around, I couldn't say I was surprised because I wasn't.

I walked towards the bar and sat on one of the stools.

"May I get you something?" I looked up and found brown dark eyes staring at me. The bartender was leaning on the table that separated us apart, with a small smile forming on his lips.

"I would like—"

"A coke would be fine" I turned to my right and noticed Alec was standing next to me. The bartender nodded before leaving to get my coke.

"Thea, we are not here to have fun and drink all night. I brought you here for purpose so you better get up and follow me. Understand?" He whispered as he was leaning onto me, his lips touching my ear softly. Though, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of business he was in, trying to drag me in it as well.

Once the bartender came back, he slide the coke towards me. I grabbed it before walking off with Alec. I did what he told me and followed him but as I was following behind him, I left the coke aside on a table.

I didn't know we had already made it towards the back until we stopped where a body guard stood at, guarding a large door.

Alec leaned in into his ear and all I've seen is the guard nod his head before opening up the door. He started to walked in and I followed behind him. There was a small group of guys sitting down in front of a table when I first walked inside, there was actually plenty of guys sitting in different table. These men had tuxedos on and playing some type of game but I had an idea of what it was. As I walked in further, there was a large black curtain across the room and as we slowly walked closer I've hard music playing. Soon it was loud enough for me to lean in over Alec so I would know what he was trying to tell me.

"This is the vip unit and only people with status get to go inside" I nodded my head and looked back at the curtain. Alec didn't wait a minute before he pulled it open and walked in. I followed him right after.

The room was dark but the room was flickering white light. There was a wide opening in the middle of the room which showed the view of downstairs, meaning I was upstairs. There was fewer people here than at the actual club but there was still a lot of people. These people were dressed in gowns and walked around with their fancy wine and champagne. Waiters and waitresses walked around while holding a plate filled with different types of foods and drinks.

"You guys made it" I looked around until I found the voice who spoke to us.

Raine?

"I really thought that Thea wasn't going to make it, good thing you did though because tonight is going to be the night we finally hurt Bruce" Raine's voice was cold but I knew that it was all because of Bruce.

"What's the plan?" I asked away. She smiled at me before responding back to me but my attention wasn't towards her anymore. My eyes held someone else who was across the room. I wasn't sure if it was who I thought it was but once the white light flickered on his face, I knew it was him.

It was Rory Clark.
