One More Mistake
Chapter twenty-one

❱ As Kace was driving the car and I was sitting in the back while looking at the window, I suddenly remembered what Raine told me the other time about kace. I looked away from the window to kace but he wasn't paying attention to me at all. This was an opportunity, Bruce wasn't here and it was only just me and him.

"What did Raine mean the other day when she told me you were in there when Bruce killed her parents?" I asked away, popping off the question like if I were asking where were we going.

Kace had looked over the rear mirror but didn't looked fazed by the question. It was almost like he was expecting me to ask that question in any second now.

"I wasn't actually in the room, Raine got it all wrong. I didn't even know what Bruce was up to, I just started to work for Bruce at that time and I had no idea of what he was capable of but now I know and trust me I wasn't part of it at all." He tried to reassure me but I still couldn't trust him.

"But now you know and you still haven't left the job, why? I mean you know he does bad things but your still here risking your life, for what?"

"Th— Ms Nightingale, you still don't know a lot about me and I have no reason to answer your question but let me tell you one thing. I may not agree to what Bruce does but that doesn't mean I'll quit my job. I need money and I don't think you understand that—"

"I don't understand what? What are you trying to imply? That I'm just a spoiled little brat that doesn't care about anything nor anybody? Did you know that my parents died when I was just so young to even handle, not to mention that I was in fosters homes for a whole year with people who didn't give a fuck about me now I live with my abusive uncle who would rather make my life a living hell instead of fixing his relationship with me? So just shut up with 'you don't understand' shit" I was gasping for air once I've finished, I didn't even realize we were already parked outside the house. I got off the car and slammed the door shut, my steps towards the door were fast and hard.

I was pissed.

Once I was inside the house, I made my way towards my room but stopped on my tracks once I heard Bruce calling my name.

"Don't be rude, Thea, did you really forget about your date with Alec?" I looked over my shoulder and found Alec standing next to kace with a smile on his face.

"No I didn't, I'm just choosing not to go" I continued to walk up the stairs but stopped again when I heard someone calling my name but this time it wasn't Bruce.

"Thea, don't disappoint your uncle, he's been kind enough to let you reschedule." I could hear his voice dripping with fake excuses but Bruce didn't notice because he was too busy admiring the way Alec took his side instead of mine.

"Fine, let me just change" I know Alec didn't just want to spend time with me, he had something planned out. Maybe it was about his stupid revenge with Bruce.

When I've changed clothing, I walked back down only to see Alec in the room sitting in the love seat.

"Loved your concerned act, are you ever going to try it on me?" He looked up when he heard me and by then I was already standing in front of him with my arms across my chest. He smiled before getting up and leaning towards me. I couldn't help but tense up.

"Are you ever going to try that annoyed act on me?" I rolled my eyes when I realized what he said. I backed away when he was close enough to me.

"That wasn't an act, I'm pretty pissed off right now and you really didn't help" he shrug his shoulders before grabbing my hand and intertwining it with mine. I threw him a look but all he did was look up at the stair case, I looked up as well and found Bruce staring at us from upstairs with a smirk on his face.

"We need to act like we like each other, alright? Or else my plan isn't going to work, understood?" Alec whispered in my ear as I nodded my head. I looked back at Alec but that was a huge mistake. He was standing so close to me our noses were almost touching, and I could feel his hot minty breath on my face. His eyes were still looking up but swiftly switched them to mine.

"Behave Thea" I heard Bruce say and that's what made me look away from Alec. I quickly moved away from him and walked towards the door, not waiting up for Alec.

"Ms Nightingale" when I walked outside, kace was standing by the door with a blank face. I didn't say anything at all and began walking but I felt a soft hand touch my arm.

"Don't touch me!" I turned around to glare at kace but this wasn't kace at all. Alec looked at me with a strange look, his hand far away from me. I looked behind him and found kace staring at me and I could almost see his lips twitching to a smile.

"Let's just go" I looked back at Alec but he didn't move at all, he was confused and I couldn't blame him. He looked over his shoulder then back at me then suddenly his eyebrows lifted up.

"Are you two a thing or something?" I turned around and walked away.

"No, we aren't a thing or something he's just my bodyguard who's been annoying me" I heard kace follow behind me and soon I saw his figure next to me.

"Everyone seems to annoy you" I didn't say anything back but shot a glare at him though he wasn't looking at me.
