One More Mistake
Chapter seven

❱ The night wasn't as interesting as I thought it were going to be. Rory didn't talk to me after the argument we had, but there was glares and very cold stares when we had meet gazes. Bruce was angry the whole night, of course he didn't show it to the public but he sure showed it to me by the way he glared at me from across the room and by the way he clenched his fists when I said something I wasn't supposed. I don't think anyone noticed but I did and I couldn't help but I couldn't help get a little afraid yet satisfied at the same time by the actions. As I made my way through crowd, a hand caught my arm.

"You should know better than to embarrass me like that in front of all those people, Thea. You embarrassed me and you know I'm not going to let that slide. You should behave or else" when the voice whispered into my ear, I knew right away who it was. Everyone around me didn't notice the way Bruce my arm or how Bruce was threatening me. They would have seen Bruce just talking to her niece and telling her how nice she looked. After he gripped my arm, he then let me go. Since he was holding me so tight, I was steadying myself. I felt arms grab my shoulder from behind.

"You okay?" I turned around and I couldn't help but be relieved. Sterling looked behind me, and knew he was looking at Bruce. From the way he was staring at him, I knew he saw everything that had happened. I nodded and stepped away from him, causing him to look back at me. He had eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed. I knew that look very well.

"I've seen the way he was grabbing you. Why would you let him treat you like that?" He asked clearly pissed off. I crossed my arms across my chest and lifted my eyebrows.

"Look, just please don't get involved because we both know how that will end up" that's all I said before bumping into his shoulder and walking away. I didn't notice who was behind him until I was already far away from them. Lilian and Jeremy were sadly looking at Sterling, telling him something. He nodded his head softly before they had disappeared into the crowd and I slowly started to make my way outside this place.

There was a balcony far in the corner and started to make my way towards there. When I reached the rail I tightly grabbed it and closed my eyes. When I opened them, I looked at the view that stood before me.

"I didn't take you as the type to be manhandled" a voice had said. By the sudden of it, I jumped and turned around to look at the figure that had stood a few feet away. He wasn't looking at me but across from him. He lifted up his glass and took a small sip before looking at me. His dark green eyes looked more darker than they usually did in the night, they almost could be taken as brown eyes. The dim light was illuminating only half of his face, not fully understanding the look on his face.

"That was your uncle right?" he asked as he pointed towards the room. He turned his body towards me and took a step forward.

"So your stalking me now" I said as I looked away. My eyes were trained ahead of me but from the corner of my eyes I've seen him come a bit closer.

"I wouldn't call it stalking, I just like to read people. You just happened to be my victim today" he said. I turned to look at him and smirk.

"It seems like I'm always your victim" I said. I looked back at the view, and closed my eyes. I expected him to say something else but he didn't and it was quiet. The people talking from inside the building was all that could be heard but besides the muffled voices, it was too quiet and I had almost thought he left until I heard a sigh. I slowly opened my eyes and looked over at him. He had eyes closed too, whilst he was facing forward.

Owen was very different from all of them and I wonder why was he still with them after everything.

"What a surprise, Thea and Owen, alone together and aren't hooking up. I mean you guys technically hooked up every time you were alone together. Why would it stop now? I wonder what would Alexandra would say" Linda's voice called out. I looked over my shoulder to find her with her arms across her chest with a firm look on her face. I smirked and turned to face her. I was about to say something but Owen beat me to it.

"I don't think she'll care if Thea and I would hook up right now" he said. I looked over at Owen but he just stared at Linda with a blank face. The same blank face he gives everyone and to me.

"Right, because you and Alexandra are taking a break right now? We all know how it goes Owen, you guys fight then after a week you guys get back together" she said while chuckling humorously.

"Well this time is different," he said calmly but I could hear hurt in his voice. He didn't say anything else before leaving. I didn't stay with Linda and left after him but before I could actually get away Linda caught my arm. I soon pulled my arm away but didn't leave.

"Don't cause trouble again" was all she said before leaving. I clenched my jaw and my fist, trying to hold down my anger.

"You and Owen again?" Someone questioned. My eyes snapped at the figure that was in the entrance. His dark blue eyes were taunting and cold when I've met them. He didn't move, all he did was lean on the wall with his blazer hanging by his arm.

"Don't bother to care" I said before moving towards the corner, where Owen was a while ago. I didn't want to explain myself to anyone, especially to Rory.

I know he was still by the door, but he just stayed quiet. We both were quiet, we were both filled with our lovely thoughts until my phone rang loudly. I grabbed my purse and pulled my phone. In bold letters, Caine, was paste on my screen as well a picture. He was smiling with thumbs up, while laying on the hospital bed. My thumbs was near the green button but I was hesitant because he was going to question me. Instead of answering him, I clicked the red button.

I'll call him later, I told myself.

I didn't notice Rory who was almost five feet away from me, and staring at my phone. He had his usual blank stare, it was actually better than his cold one. I put my phone back in my purse and that's when Rory looked up to face me.

"Why didn't you answer?" He questioned, and he actually looked curious. I didn't answer him and move forward, to exit out.

"Why are here Rory? Why are you trying to talk to me?" I asked. I didn't turn to look at him but I knew he was staring at me. With that said, I left the quiet space and into the crowded room. I was tried and I didn't want to be here anymore so I made my way out. When I was making my way, I've seen Bruce. He was laughing, while holding his glass of champagne. In a spilt second, I locked eyes with Sterling who was with his parents. Soon, I lost them and I made my way to the elevators.

When I was outside, there was slims cars lined up in front of the building. I looked at each of them until I've seen a similar figure who was leaning on the car. He looked looked around until we locked eyes. He leaned off the car and smiled tauntingly.

"If you think I'll leave here without my boss, you wrong Ms Nightingale" he said once I was near him.

"I don't want to be here anymore and plus your my security guard not Bruce. So get me out of here, it's an order" I said but he didn't react. Kace just folded his arms across his chest and stared at me.

"True, I am your guard but Bruce is my boss" I rolled my eyes once I heard his choice of words.

"Fine, I'll walk" I stated and didn't wait for what he had to say. I made my way around him and walked away. I know walking wasn't the best option but I truly didn't want to be here anymore. The house was miles away and by the time I will reach the house, Bruce will be there waiting for me. As I was walking, not knowing where to go, my phone rang. I pulled out my phone and already knew who it was. He was the only person who called me. This time, I actually picked up.

The line was quiet and we were both mute. I sighed and spoke up.

"Hi" my voice was low and apologetic, I felt like those two syllables said something else bedsides a greeting. It was like an apology. It was an apology for not meeting him today, for not answering him, and for not telling him what's happening because he knows I'm hiding something.

"Are you going to visit me tomorrow?" Was all he asked. I smiled and stared ahead of me, while walking.

"Of course I am" I said smiling.

"Good" he said, and knew he had a big smile on his face.
