The last time I checked, vampires burned in the sunlight, not sparkled.  Although I don't think Twilight as a whole is as terrible as most people say it is, I still have some huge problems with it, mostly with creating clichés that make no sense.  From the first recorded folklore about vampires, they have always had an issue with the sunlight.  The reason for this was to depict them as true creatures of the night, hidden in the shadows and ready to strike at any time in the darkness.  Vampires were after all a popular fear in 1800's England, due to the constant unexplained deaths that occurred from lackluster hygiene habits.  People connected death with darkness, thus the creation of the idea that vampires could only go out at night.  I don't know about you, but isn't it kind of a betrayal to the folklore if vampires are allowed to go out into the daytime.

I suggest doing the following if you ever want to write a vampire related story; please keep them in the shadows of the night.  Bring back the horror related elements these creatures once had.  End the cliché that they can suddenly go out into the daylight, which happened all because copycat writers wanted the fame Twilight received.
