Scott pulled into my driveway, and I got out quickly. I ran to my door and struggled with my keys, trying to put the key into the lock when he stopped me and turned me around.

I looked at him as he stood close to me, "Can I help you?" I said, trying to keep my composure.

"Are you always like this," he asked me with an eyebrow raised.

"Like what? I have no idea what you're talking about," I shrugged.

He looked at me and said, "I don't believe that. I think you know what I'm talking about."

I looked at him as my heart pounded out of my chest.

"You can't tell me you didn't feel the attraction between us because I sure in the hell did. Then to wake up and find out you were gone was disheartening," he told me.

"I had no plans of going home with someone that night or even having sex with them. Do you even know how embarrassing this is for me?" I looked at him as I walked past him and paced. I stopped, then looked at him, "And on top of it, you're my boss."

"Yeah, so?"

I stopped and looked at him. Is this guy for real?

He walked over to me, "Trust me, I can separate my personal life from my professional life."

I walked past him and over to the door.

"Lina? What are you afraid of?"

I stopped and turned to him, "Maybe I'm just afraid of opening myself up and failing again. Since it's the story of my life."

He walked up to me, "Okay, fine."

I looked at him.

"Then I will prove it to you," he shrugged. I looked at him as he turned and walked away. What did that crazy fool plan?

I turned around and went inside. At least now I can wear comfy sweats and spend time with my main men.

Once I had changed, I settled in with a container of ice cream and turned on the Titanic. This movie reminded me of my love life. It's going great until it hits a giant iceberg and people die. At least Jack left Rose because he died. I got left because I wasn't a male.

I stabbed my ice cream with a spoon as I heard someone knock at the door. Now what?

I set the carton down and got up. I opened the door to find Tara standing there. I waved her in. She walked in and sat down on the couch. She picked up the carton and started eating ice cream.

"What's up with you?" I asked as I took the ice cream from her.

"I should be asking you the same thing," as she took the carton back from me.

"What do you mean?"

"What happened with you and Scott," she asked as she took a bite of ice cream.

"Nothing happened with us. Why?"

"You sure about that?"

"I'm positive. Scott drove me home and dropped me off, then left."

"Lina, we all know there is some unbelievable chemistry between you two. We saw it today at the house. So, what's the issue, besides that you already slept together and he's your boss," she asked me.

"Because it's more complicated with those two factors. Plus, how was I ever supposed to get promoted at work if we date? Because you and I know the minute I do, rumors are going to fly about Scott and me and how I got promoted," I told her.

"True."

I took the carton from her and took a bite of ice cream.

"But what if, let's say, you did get promoted and it had nothing to do with Scott? What if you two were able to keep it out of work? What does it matter, since Scott owns the company?" She gave me a look.

"Good point," I said, shoving a spoonful of ice cream into my mouth.

"Lina, I'm not saying you have to get into a full-fledged relationship with him or any relationship for that matter. I would give him a chance to get to know you," she suggested.

"Tara, why can't I have my relationship with Ben and Jerry? They never let me down," I said.

"Because your butt is going to hate you later and so are your thighs," she countered. I looked at my legs. She did have a point. "Plus, I think Scott is way better than this overpriced ice confection."

"Even though it has chocolate in it," I asked her.

"Well, in that case, never mind and pass that sweet goodness here," she said as I passed her the carton. She took another bite. Mention chocolate and Tara is all about it.

Tara eventually went home, and I sat there thinking about what she said. I mean, I didn't know what to think. I only met him over a week ago, and that was pure coincidence. I had no idea he would turn out to be my boss or even a friend of Kelly's.

I didn't know what to think at this point. Maybe if I went to bed and got a good night's sleep, I could figure things out tomorrow.

I decided to turn in and laid there all night thinking about everything that happened. My mind was going into overdrive with all these different scenarios. I mean, why was I so scared to open up to the possibility of being with someone. Would it be that bad? I just wasn't so sure.

*********
I heard a knock at the door and opened it to Kami, yelling, "Mommy! I've missed you!"

She ran into my arms and hugged me. I hugged her back. I missed her hugs.

"Mommy, you're squeezing me!" She squealed.

"Maybe you're just squeezable," I said to her as she giggled. I let go of her, "There are cookies in the kitchen."

"Yay!" She ran into the kitchen as mom looked at me, "You look like hell? You didn't have another bender again, did you?"

I rolled my eyes as I closed the door, "No. I didn't get much sleep last night."

"Why's that? Have some hot guy over?"

"Mom!"

"Oh come on, Lina! If I were thirty and single I would be out sowing several oats," she exclaimed. I can't deal with her. We went into the kitchen as Kami sat at the table and ate a cookie.

"So, who is he?"

I pulled out a couple of mugs, "Who says there's a he?"

"She? Because you know I have no issue if you find a girl. I'm hip to all kinds of love nowadays. Except for a formal love, that's not natural." I gave her a look.

"What? No," I answered, feeling annoyed.

"Okay, so, who is he? Don't lie to me either."

"It's complicated," I sighed as I sipped my coffee.

"Complicated is that status people use on Facebook when they can't decide what the hell they want," she huffed.

"When did you get a Facebook?"

"That's not important, and by the way, you need to update your profile pic. It's been a while," she said to me.

"You're checking out my Facebook? Really? Ever hear of a phone?" I held up my phone.

"Yes, and I like Facebook. Did you know Kara's ex is quite the ladies man?"

"Kara's ex is a tool," I said to her.

"We're getting off the subject. Who's the guy?"

I sighed. Mom wasn't going to let this go.

"Fine. His name is Scott. I met him, sort of at the bar," I mumbled, "and he's my boss."

She looked at me. I diverted my eyes. Here comes the judgment. Let me have it. Tell me I am a horrible human being that has atrocious taste in men.

"At least work will be a lot more fun," She wiggles her eyebrows. I gave her a disgusted look.

"Mom!"

"Just saying," she shrugged as she started walking out of the kitchen as she yelled, "make sure you wear sexy underwear. Guys like that! Bye! Love you!"

I heard the front door close and dropped my head on the counter. Kami sat at the table swinging her little legs as she munched on her cookie. My mother has no shame.

After dinner, we spent time watching a little tv until it was bedtime. I bathed Kami and got her ready for bed. Then I read her a couple of stories and kissed her.

I walked over and turned off her light while closing her door; I looked at her. Such an innocent person who doesn't have to deal with the complications of a relationship yet. Is it bad I want her to stay little and never have to deal with it?

I went and got ready for bed. My mind kept wondering about what would happen at work tomorrow. Probably more work. Sigh.

Scott was completely different at work than away. It was like two different personalities. I tried not to think about it because it was driving me crazy.

I know what I will do; I will act like nothing even happened this weekend. I mean nothing did so I was okay. I hope.
