Adalina Salvatore

I replayed our conversation a million time over. Every words we uttered were imprinted in my skull and his voices played inside my ears like a never ending song. He had his eyes on me the whole time, there was something about him, about his eyes that calmed my soul. I felt like I could talk to him forever just about anything and everything and he would still understand. I knew he would never judge me or maybe he just didn't give a single fuck. But, still I was glad we talked.

I woke up early at dawn. The sun was still sleeping, the castle was cold, but chirpy birds could be heard from the other side of the wall. I slipped out of bed and glided my way through the long hallway. I stopped in front of his office and twisted the door opened. Just like I had expected, he was there sleeping soundly on the couch in a rather uncomfortable position. Shaking my head, I walked over and grabbed the blanket out of the basket.

I draped it over his body and kneeled beside the couch. He looked so peaceful. I ran my knuckles gently on his face, caressing his cheekbones. I had never seen him like this, clam and vulnerable. A small sigh escaped his throat and I dropped my hand like he burned holes through my skin. He was my husband but I suddenly felt like I was invading his space. I stood up and walked out, closing the door behind me.

Who would have thought, the devil could look so innocent asleep.

Thane greeted me at the other end of the long staircase when I walked down. He bowed his head, offering a hand to help me down. " Good morning, Thane. " I smiled.

" Good morning, your highness. " he gave me a cheeky grin like he knew my biggest crime.

The guy was a rainbow in my husband's dark and gloomy cloud. They were a perfect definition of opposite attract and I totally shipped it.

I narrowed my eyes at him before walking into the kitchen. He silently strolled behind in silence. The chefs weren't here like they always were, Eden really fired them all. I pulled out some ingredients from the fridge, the pot and pan and started cooking. Thane stood there wincing every time I lifted something like he was scared that my stitches would just tear open so my guts could start pouring out. I gave him an unimpressed looks for the hundred time and he just looked away like he did nothing.

The clock hit six am in the morning and like clockwork my husband walked down the stair and entered the dining room. Except he was in his casual attire today, a plain black tee and a pair of grey sweatpants. His hair was a sexy mess like he just ran his fingers through it one million times over. He rocked the whole I rolled straight out of bed looking like this vibes and I was so here for it.

Just when I thought he couldn't be more beautiful than he already was. I was totally fucking simping.

Eden cocked his eyebrow at me weirdly before taking the seat at the head of the table. I gulped almost dropping the plates I was holding in my hands. Thane's chuckles roared across the room as he failed miserably to hold it in behind his knuckles.

I sighed at myself in disappointment all while mentally bitch slapped myself across the face.

The whole horny for my husband fever I got going on needed to stop. But, fuck me. He was right there and he looked like that.

He cleared his throat. " You look weird today. "

Yeah, he was hot alright but he was also cruel, a mean motherfucker. And, still I liked him, all sixty nine shades of him.

" You made breakfast? " he asked as I set down the plates.

I nodded my head before taking the seat next to him. " I did. "

" All by yourself? When you're sick? " he asked, still staring at him.

" Of course not. The nice YouTube lady helped me. She said I did a great job too and Thane stood there and watched. " I grinned.

He raised an eyebrow at me then turned his head to the bodyguard who started gulping two seconds ago. I put my elbows on the table and rested my chin on my knuckles with a grin on my face.

" Why didn't you help her? I swear if I find one ruined stitch, you're a dead man and we will be having you for dinner. " Eden glared.

Thane gasped loudly.

" Eden, it's fine. I doubt he can cook. " I said, giving Thane a wink. He mouthed me a small thank you.

Eden hummed something under his breath before tilting his eyes down to take a look at his special breakfast or as I called it, the Eden's special feast.

We had broccoli omelette served with a side of broccoli salad drowned in broccoli dressing and a glass of broccoli smoothie, his all time favorite.

" What the fuck is this shit? " he cringed, narrowing his eyes at his plate.

" I found out you love broccoli. I put so much effort into making these just for you, from the bottom of my heart. " I grinned.

The guy fucking despised the damn vegetable. But, a payback was long overdue.

" I don't fucking care. Take this away from me and throw it in the trash for the love of god. "

I pouted, looking down at my feet. " I'm sorry. "

Thane huffed before walking to his boss and leaned over to look at the food. " Her highness made it extra special for you all while she's hurt. If you don't want it, I will eat it. "

Eden watched between me and his plate before letting out a small grunt. He waved Thane off with a flick of his wrist and my lips quirked up into a small smirk while I danced in my head.

" I will finish this. Thank you, darling. " he sighed, picking up his fork miserably.

Darling. There was that word again. He used it as a sarcastic remark multiple times but I was sure I would never get used to it. It was like a punch on my chest and went straight to my heart. It hurt so fucking good. I loved it.

" You're welcome, my prince. " I grinned then walked back into the kitchen to bring the other plate.

He looked at the green vegetables like it was the most horrifying thing on earth. Watching him picked it up was incredibly painful. I almost felt bad for putting through this misery. Thane on the other hand looked like he was enjoying it. Shaking my head in amusement, I strolled back inside the room.

I snatched the fork out of his hand and pushed the green plate away. Eden snapped his head up and I swore he almost broke into a fit of happiness. Chuckling to myself, I placed a plate of Oreo pancakes in front of him.

" For taking care of me yesterday. And, for being a semi decent human being for the first time. Thank you. "

" Where are you going? " he asked when I started to walk away.

Raising my eyebrow at him, I answered. " Back to bed. I'm still sleepy. Who woke up at this ungodly hour everyday. I thought you were going to work that's why I got up and made you breakfast. "

" Sit down and eat with me. "

" But-

" I will shove the damn food down your throat myself. Don't try me. " he said calmly, looking ahead.

You could shove something else down there too. I really needed to shut the fuck up.

We shared the stack of pancakes. He didn't look too happy about it but he sucked it up and said nothing of me eating his food. I had never smiled so much in my life. Thane stood at the doorframe with a huge grin on his face. Everyone was happy today.

After breakfast we went back upstair and Eden helped me clean my wound. I winced twice. He told me I was being a fucking baby and demanded I stopped being so dramatic.

I smacked him in the head. He glared at me and was about to scold me again when I told him to suck it up and stop being a fucking cry baby.

Overall, it was a pretty good morning. Better than yesterday and any other mornings we shared.

Dusk returned and he came back inside the room. The sun was already going back to bed, creating orange and pink swirls across the sky. I was on the couch in front of the glass window, reading and appreciating the warm burn on my skin as cool wind brushed across my face.

I didn't see him but I could feel his eyes on me, burning holes through my back. I didn't let out a single sound as his footsteps got closer and closer.

" You're awfully quiet and well behaved. What did you do, princess? " he asked, and I could tell he was standing a few feet away.

I had my back toward him, sitting on the cushion chair on the balcony of our bedroom. My lips quirked into a small smile as I stood up, letting the silk of my robe fell to my feet as I turned to face him.

" You're reading Mark Twain. " he narrowed his eyes at the book I was holding in my hand.

" I stood in front of you naked as the day I was born and all you could see is the book I hold in my hand. " I grinned widely.

" There's nothing else I find interesting to look at other than the book. " he said, lowering his eyes to his feet.

" You really are an ass, your highness. " I glared at him through a low chuckle.

" Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company. " he concentrated his eyes on the book and quoted Mark Twain.

" Where will you go, my prince? Heaven or Hell? " I asked, picking up the robe and pulled it over my shoulders.

He snapped his gaze back at me and murmured under his breath. " Wherever my duty is. "
