Ivy dodged the tennis ball Spencer flung at her and retaliated with a small burst of flame. Spencer jumped out of the way. With a sweep of his hand, he covered the ground beneath Ivy in a layer of ice. Ivy's feet slipped out from beneath her and she hit the deck with a thud.

"Not bad," Spencer said. "You're getting better."

Ivy sighed. "Yeah, I know. But..."

"But what?"

"It's still hard when I'm in an actual fight. I mean, I can take down soldiers without a second thought, but fighting the Altered is different. I'm scared of hurting them, even though they're the enemy."

"Hey, that's fair," Spencer said. He held out his hand and helped Ivy to her feet. "I mean, at the end of the day, they're just like us. They just wound up on the opposite side. And after everything you've been through..."

He trailed off and Ivy sighed. She didn't understand how Spencer managed to stay so level-headed all the time.

His words were comforting, but Ivy didn't want to talk about her powers or her past. She opened her mouth to change the subject, but Spencer spoke first.

"Wanna work on electrokinesis?" he asked. "It's not as destructive as fire. You might find it easier to fight with."

Ivy nodded. "Okay," she said. She held up her arms and took a deep breath. Electricity crackled between her fingers.

"So, what did that Malcolm kid want to talk to you about?" Spencer asked. He held out his hand and summoned a blade of ice. He lunged forward and swung at Ivy.

Ivy jumped backwards a fired a bolt of electricity back at him. It had been a few days since she'd spoken with Malcolm, but the days since had been packed with training and missions and planning.

As Spencer dodged Ivy's attack, she answered his question. "He says he want to help us, but I don't believe him. I mean, he did attack us."

"Newman was going to lock him up," Spencer pointed out.

Ivy launched another attack, which Spencer stopped with a wall of ice. "Still, if he had surrendered peacefully, he would have had a better chance at persuading us."

"You think?"

"Maybe. I mean, he's still pretty terrifying. And he knows a lot about us. Stuff that even we don't know, apparently."

"Like what?" Spencer asked.

Ivy's hands burst into flame and she held them out to melt the wall Spencer had put up. "He said that the scientists at the labs did experiments on some of the Supers. Including Claire."

"What?" Spencer's arms fell to his side. "What'd they do to her?"

"I don't know. Malcolm said she was really powerful, so they did something to suppress her powers, or something. He said we had to let him out if we wanted more information."

"Maybe he's bluffing about how much he knows," Spencer said.

Ivy shrugged. "Maybe." She doubted it, though, and it seemed like Spencer did too. Either way, Malcolm wasn't leaving his cell anytime soon.

Spencer frowned. "Speaking of the labs," he said. "Well, and Cladis Point... is it just me, or did the destruction seem really random?"

"What do you mean?"

"It just seems like if there were an explosion, it was destroy everything. But some of the buildings were in pretty good condition, while others next to them were rubble. If I didn't know any better, I'd say tornado, but even on a small scale..."

"Yeah, I guess," Ivy said. She extinguished the flames in her hand as the last of the ice melted away. Why was Spencer bringing this up now?

"One of the Supers mentioned something the other day that made me think of it. Remember that weird graffiti in the labs?"

Ivy folded her arms. "You mean those weird messages? And the giant black eyes? Yeah."

"Right. Stuff like 'they are watching' and 'it is coming.' I just feel like there's something else going on that we don't know about." Spencer laughed and turned his gaze to the ocean beyond the ship's deck. "Maybe it has something to do with the alien rumors. You ever hear about those?"

It sounded familiar. "I think a kid mentioned them when I first got here," Ivy said. "Didn't some high schoolers make up a bunch of abduction stories?"

"It wasn't just high schoolers," Spencer said. "Plenty of people said there was weird activity in the hills outside of town. Drew in quite a few paranormal investigators, from what I've read. But anyway, high schoolers definitely helped it spread. Kids would go out into the hills at night to prove they weren't chicken and impress their dates." He shrugged. "I mean, it sounds crazy, but they say the aliens were looking for something."

"What would aliens be looking for?" Ivy asked. "I mean, assuming they exist."

"No idea. I mean, it's probably just stories. I wouldn't be surprised if half the abduction stories were made up, and the other half were dreams or hallucinations."

"Incoming!" someone screamed.

Frowning, Ivy looked up at the sky. She groaned when she saw the approaching jetchopper. Scorpion.

"That's weird," she said. "There's only one."

Spencer walked over to her. "Maybe the rest are invisible," he suggested, but his voice was light. He was joking. At least, Ivy hoped he was.

Everyone backed away as the helicopter landed on the deck. When the door opened, Ivy was surprised to see Wren step out. The other Supers surrounded her in an instant She spun around, eyeing them warily.

Ivy stepped forward. "What are you doing here?" she asked.

"She's Scorpion. Lock her up," one of the Supers shouted. Ivy shot a warning look in their direction and turned back to Wren.

"You better explain yourself," Ivy said. "Or we will put you in a cell. And you will not like your neighbor."

Wren threw up her arms. "I swear I come in peace," she said. "Claudia's insane."

"You're gonna have to do better than that," Ivy said. "Last time I saw you, you had Terrence put a bullet in our friend." She didn't bother holding back the flames spreading up her fingers.

Wren looked genuinely scared. "I'm sorry. Claudia tried to have me taken away by some crazy scientists. I barely escaped. I've been on the run for the past few days! Do you have any idea how hard these choppers are to fly?"

Ivy narrowed her eyes. "I don't, but as a matter of fact Summer figured it out pretty quickly."

"Look," Wren snapped. "I had nowhere else to go."

"So you're only here because your life was at risk?"

"I can prove I'm on your side," Wren said. "I have information."

"Hand over your gun, and then we'll talk." Ivy nodded at the weapon at Wren's side.

Wren hesitated, but she grabbed the gun and placed on the ground. "There," she said as she kicked it over. "Happy?"

Spencer leaned over to Ivy. "This doesn't seem right," he muttered.

"I know," Ivy replied. "Do you know where Claire is?"

"She, Victoria and a few others went on a quick mission for Dr. Newman. Medical supplies, I think?"

Ivy sighed and looked over at Wren. "What's this information you have?" she asked. Having Claire's mind-reading abilities would be helpful, but it looked like they'd have to wait.

"Claudia's planning to attack a warehouse near Seattle. Tonight. They're storing weapons and supplies that she wants."

"Who's going?"

"I was supposed to go with Ash, Terrence, Hestia and Seth."

Ivy's blood boiled at Terrence's name. She glanced at Spencer. "What do you think?"

"I don't know," he said. "I think she's telling the truth, but I can't be sure."

"All right," Ivy said.

"If you're going tonight, I want to come," Wren said.

"No," Ivy replied. "You're going to stay here."

"I have to go," Wren protested. "I need to get back at Claudia."

"If your information is correct, then you'll have plenty of other chances to get back at her." Ivy turned around.

"Please."

Ivy stopped, surprised by the desperation in Wren's tone. She looked behind her. There was a silent plea in Wren's expression as she watched Ivy think.

"Fine," Ivy said. "But Spencer's going to keep an eye on you from now until we get back. Got it?"

Wren nodded.

"Spencer, can you handle her?" Ivy asked.

"Of course," Spencer said.

Ivy left him to watch Wren and hurried off to find Dr. Newman. He was hesitant, but he agreed to let them go to the warehouse and stop Scorpion.
