Chapter Thirty Three

Part Two

"No." I tucked my legs beneath me and settled my arms on top of the pillow on my lap. "No." Bella rolled her eyes before holding up another dress for me to try on. "Absolutely no to that one."

Letting out a dramatic sigh and throwing her hands above her head, she fell forwards on to her bed. Lifting her head, her eyes met mine. "Dammit Rainie, unless you're planning on going naked, I think you should just pick something to wear."

We had been in Bella's bedroom rummaging through her clothes for the past hour and a half. Mason had called - not that I could hear him properly with Bella pressed against my cheek trying to listen - and told me to be ready by eight.

That left me two hours.

Two. Freaking. Hours.

To make things worse, I still had no idea where we were going. All Mason said was to wear something nice. What the hell was 'nice'? I wasn't sure whether it was just me or if every other girl would share this problem if they were in my shoes.

Probably not. They would have had a normal friend helping them, where as I was left with a crazy girl who insisted the 'brighter the better'.

Pulling out a lime green dress didn't exactly scream 'ideal first date dress', neither did the hot pink one. I actually started to wonder if this girl had dark coloured clothes in her wardrobe at all.

After three more outrageously coloured dresses, I face planted the pillow. This was definitely not going well. "What about this one?" With a muffled groan into the soft fabric, I dared to raise my eyes to see what she had in her hand this time.

When my gaze landed on the dress in her hand, I immediately jumped off the bed. "That's it." Reaching out to touch the soft material, my fingers brushed over the coral coloured fabric. "Can I wear this one?"

"Of course," Bella pushed the dress into my hands, "Try it on." I didn't need to be told twice. Making my way into her bathroom as fast as I could, I quickly stripped my clothes and slipped it on.

I take back everything I ever said about Bella's choice of fashion.

The scoop neck fell straight at either side of my collar bone and flowed into a sleeveless bodice, with the waist clinched in. The skirt pleated out slightly and fell just above my knees.

It fit perfectly and even gave me somewhat of a tan. It was perfect and I couldn't wait to see what the whole outfit looked like when it was properly put together.

As soon as I entered her bedroom, she bounced up off the bed. "Holy hell, I'd mate with you right now if you were my type." She said with a wink, causing me to laugh. "Now..." She held up her finger and walked back towards her closet. "These shoes are perfect, right?"

And they were. Gold, peep toe heels with a slight sparkle whenever the light hit them. "They're too perfect." I said, greedily taking them from her and slipping them on my feet. They were a little tighter than I was used to, but Bella's feet were the size of a small child's.

She clapped her hands together and looked me over. "You look amazing." She said with happiness written all over her face. "But now it's time for make-up and hair."

Bella decided to go for less is more and I couldn't have been more amazed with the result if I tried. Styling my hair in a loose fishtail plait that fell over my right shoulder, she left my make-up light with subtle black eyeliner and added a clear lip-gloss.

I smiled in amazement at the girl looking back at me. "Do I look okay?"

Tutting at me, she folded my clothes from today and placed them inside my bag. "You look incredible and if that dog doesn't appreciate it just remember, there are plenty of other perfectly fine looking wolves out there who would jump you in a heart beat."

Ever the lady, I thought struggling to keep my laughter under control. "Thank you Bella and I really am sorry."

Waving me off with her hand, she leaned forward on her tip toes and planted a kiss on my cheek. "I always forgive." She smiled. "The first time." I didn't even want to ask what she would do the second time. "Holy crap on a stick! You're going to be late."

"What?!" Suddenly my heart was in my throat and everything felt all the more real. "Oh my God, I can't be late. Fashionably late, but not overly late."

Handing me a cream coloured clutch, she grabbed her keys off the side as she ushered me out. "Trust me babe, you'll think you're in the batmobile."

In record time, Bella pulled up outside of my house. "I can't do this." Panic kicked in with an almighty boot to my stomach.

"Yes, you can."

"I know, but I don't want to."

"Yes, you do." She rolled her eyes. "Now get that booty out of my damn car and go suck face with lover boy." Making a gagging motion, she waved her hand, giving me no other option but to leave the car. "Have a good night and don't do anything I wouldn't." She smirked with a wink.

Before I knew it I was standing alone on my front porch deciding whether or not I should wait in the house. When Bella and I had left the coffee shop I had called my mom to tell her I was going out with Mason. Of course she squealed down the phone for five minutes before actually letting me speak. I had also text her as soon as he called to tell her he was picking me up at eight.

She had made me promise to come back before I left, my dad was already out, but I was glad of that, I don't think I could handle someone else's excitement on top of my own.

The sound of the door opening behind me had me instinctively squeezing my eyes shut. "He's not here yet then." My mom whispered, standing with only her head popping out behind the door.

I quickly turned round. "No mom, please go in."

"He's late."

Oh my God. "Shush, I know." I didn't know, but after checking my phone I saw she was right. He was ten minutes late. Crap.

Paying no attention to my request, she tugged on the back of my dress. "Hasn't he called?"

"I'm sure he'll be here soon." I said, not knowing whether I was trying to convince her or myself. "Mom you're kind of looking like a creep." I laughed. If anyone was watching, they'd probably be thinking the same thing about me.

Grabbing hold of my hand, she spun me around to face her and wrapped her arms around me. "You look beautiful." Her voice broke as she sniffled. "Absolutely beautiful." Pulling back for me, she looked at every inch of my face. "He's a very lucky boy and I hope he knows that."

I smiled and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. "Thank you, mom."

Her lips suddenly formed an 'O' as we both heard the sound of a car in the distance. "That's my cue." She kissed me again. "Have a good night and be home no later than midnight, understand?"

"Got it." I said absentmindedly. My thoughts were too busy being a jumbled mess of nervousness, excitement and anticipation. "Love you." I whispered just before the door closed.

"I love you, my darling girl." Blowing a kiss, the door finally closed with a click and once again I was alone on the porch.

Slowly turning just in time to see Mason's black Chevy Silverado pull up outside my house, a smile slipped onto my lips. Did he have a different car every day? Quickly glancing one last time over my dress, I smoothed it out and walked down the stairs to meet him.

Opening the door and stepping out, I had worried I would be too over dressed, but as soon as I saw Mason, all my worries disappeared.

Dressed in a dark grey shirt with the top few buttons left open and a pair of black dress pants, he looked every bit the model. His hair as usual was perfectly imperfect; tousled in a style only he could get away with.

With a sheepish smile and running his hand through his hair, he looked at me in a way that sent tingles running across my whole body. "I'm sorry I'm late, the pack meeting ran on longer than I thought it would."

I smiled, feeling slightly intoxicated. "It's fine. Did it go well?" He nodded and returned my smile, but not before I noticed a small amount of anger and irritation flash in his eyes.

Taking hold of my hand and pulling me towards him, he buried his face, pressing a soft kiss on my neck. "You're beautiful, little kitten." He whispered against my skin. "You always have been."

As if by command, my cheeks lit with a crimson blush. "Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was too much." I said with a little embarrassment.

Looking into my eyes with those two perfect, electric blue orbs of his, he inched his face closer to mine. "It's perfect." His lips found mine; his tongue running along my bottom lips before slipping into my mouth, sending electrifying sparks to rage inside of me.

Breaking away from our kiss, the heat from my cheeks went up a few degrees. "Ready to go?"

Goodness. "Yeah." My stomach twisted and turned with every step I took closer to his truck and took an almighty dip when he his hand brushed against the small of my back and round to my waist as he reached to open the door for me. With a coy smile, I lifted my eyes to meet his. "Thanks."

He chuckled. "You're welcome, sweetcheeks." Dipping his head into the car, he left a kiss on my cheek before closing the door and walking around to the driver's side.

My mind raced with a million different things at once that I started to feel lightheaded. Going on a date wasn't exactly a weekly occurrence for me, so I had no idea what to do. Do I talk about something? School? The fight? I had no idea what the hell I was supposed to do.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see a smile spread across his face. "What's so funny?"

His smile turned into a deep chuckle as he shook his head. "Why are you so nervous, Rain?"

Practically squirming in my seat, an uneasy giggle left my lips. "I really don't know. You make me kind of nervous, I guess."

With a quick look in my direction, he smiled. "Good."

"Good?" My voice went up a few octaves. "How is that possibly good?" I asked, with laughter to my words.

"Because you make me nervous as hell and it's good to know it works both ways." He shrugged.

I didn't know what to say to that, so I did what I do best and completely changed the topic. "You haven't told me where we're going."

He nodded, "I know." Quickly turning his head, he flashed me a wink and his killer smile, then focused his attention back on the winding road in front of us.

"So you're not going to tell me?" I asked, knowing I didn't stand a chance of getting that information out of him. Slowly shaking his head, his hand stretched out over my lap and his fingers laced through mine.

A little over ten minutes later we pulled up in an empty parking lot with the night's blackness only giving way to the sporadic dim street lights. Looking out of the window, I couldn't see further than a foot in front of me. "Ready?" Mason asked whilst killing the engine.

Was I missing something? Were we having our date in a parking lot?

I waited - as Mason ordered - for him to walk around and open the door for me. Whispered a 'thanks', my eyes was again wondering around my surroundings. Standing outside the car, I could see more, but nothing in particular stood out.

"Do you want me to carry that?" He nodded his head at my clutch bag as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

The bashful smile he gave and the hint of a blush on his cheeks had my heart swelling in my chest. "It's okay." I said, tucking it under my left arm. "The heaviest thing in there is my phone."

Bobbing his head, he motioned his hand in the direction we had to walk. "We're not that far away." He murmured.

"It's fine, it's a nice night." I said, lifting my head and gazing at the stars above me. Even the moon had come out in full tonight.

In the distance, I noticed a small building. Were we going there? Squinting my eyes to see it better, I noticed there were no lights on and it looked completely empty. Apparently not.

"You're quiet." My voice broke through the silence between us. For some reason, Mason seemed a lot quieter than normal tonight. I wasn't sure what it was, but it didn't seem right for him not to be his usual, confident self.

With a chuckle, he dipped his head. "I'm nervous, that's all little kitten."

Playfully nudging his arm with mine. "There's nothing to be nervous about, we're going to have a go..." The words died in my throat when I noticed that we had reached the empty building. "Oh my God, you're not thinking about breaking and entering, are you?"

Lifting my hand to his lips, he let out a low chuckle. "No, we're good. Listen Rain," He paused to place his hands on either side of my hips, turning me to face him. "I'm not good at this and you'll probably think it's stupid, and hate it. We can go somewhere else if you do, I just figured we could use some time on our own. Plus you seemed to really like this place, so..."

Turning me round again, he covered my eyes with his hands and pressed his body against mine, pushing me forward. "Mason, we can't go in if it's closed!" I whispered yelled. Being arrested wasn't the best way to spend our first date.

Brushing his lips against my ear, "Shh," His deep, whispered voice tickled my skin.

Closing the door behind us, his hands dropped from my face, my view no longer hidden. "Wow." My eyes - which had almost popped out of my head - darted around the room, unbelieving of what I was seeing.

I instantly recognised the building - now standing inside - as the diner Mason had taken me a few weeks ago. Only this time, it wasn't bright and bustling like it had been the last time I was here.

The red tables had been covered with white cloth and a vase of red and pink roses were placed in the middle of each one with four vanilla scented candles surrounding each vase. The blinds on the windows had been pulled down, giving absolute privacy and the ceiling lights had been dimmed allowing the candles to provide most of the light, giving off a warm, soft glow. Even the counter top was lined with vases of roses and lit candles.

The smell was incredible.

Taking a deep breath, I wanted the mixed aroma of roses and vanilla to suffocate me. "Smells beautiful, doesn't it?" Mason's voice sounded behind me. Standing here any longer and I would have completely forgotten he was here with me.

"It's amazing." I was breathless. Blinking back the tears, I turned to Mason. "Everything is amazing."

There was so much happiness and relief in his eyes, my stomach danced with excitement. Completely lost in his eyes, I almost didn't notice his lips moving. "What did you say?"

Blowing out a breath, I could have sworn I saw a fresh tint of pink on his cheeks. "It's your scent." He said a little louder this time.

My brows pulled together. "My scent?"

"Yeah," His hands took their place in his pockets as he kicked the air just above the ground. "Vanilla and roses," He smiled. "That's your scent, well yours and your wolf's."

Up until now my wolf had remained quiet and I assumed it was because she was just as in awe of everything as I was. Now, it felt like a tornado was going off inside me. There was no way of hiding her purrs of delight, I was pretty sure even my mom would be able to hear them. "Mason, I don't know what to say."

I couldn't believe he had put this much thought into the night and the fact the candles and flowers were the perfect match to my scent just blew my mind. My heart raced in my chest. The best I had hoped for was a movie and something to eat, the usual kind of date, but I guess with Mason I should have known to expect the unexpected.

Thank you just wasn't enough to express what I was feeling. "You don't have to say anything, Rain. I told you this was it for me. You're it for me. Every step of the way I'm going to prove to you that I deserve this second chance and this is the start of it. I should be thanking you for agreeing to the date and for accepting me as your mate."

Without any hesitation, I took the few steps that separated us and wrapped my arms around his neck, my lips crashing against his. "You're something else." I whispered against his mouth.

He kissed the tip of my nose. "Is that a good thing?" The signature smirk was back, seemingly a little bit of his confidence was too.

My smile couldn't have gotten any bigger. "It's a very good thing." I giggled, tangling my fingers in his hair and bringing his lips to mine again.

A low growl rippled through Mason's throat. Reluctantly pulling away from me for a second before resting his forehead against mine, he took a deep breath. "We should eat otherwise we're not going to get any further than right here and that dress is too pretty to ruin."

He was right. My body was aching for him and if we stood here any longer, I had no doubt the only problem we would have were the clothes we were wearing. Letting him spin me around, his hands kept a firm hold on my hips.

Again, like we had entered the diner, Mason's body was flush against mine as he walked us to a table that had been set up at the far end. I noticed the two lines of candles forming what looked like a runway leading up to the table.

The circular table was dressed like the rest. The white cloth, the vase of red and pink roses and of course the vanilla scented candles. Holding out my chair, he waited for me to sit before he took the one opposite.

"Robert has made our food." I guessed Robert was the chef for the diner. "I wasn't sure what you wanted, so I hope you like it." I was in such a good mood that I'd have eaten raw meat if it got plated up in front of me.

The first meal was our starter. Grilled prawns in a lemon dressing with a side salad and bread. My mouth watered. "I didn't think they sold this kind of thing at the diner." The last time I was here, the menu was filled with the usual diner food; burgers, fries, ice creams. The typical thing you would expect to find.

"They don't," Mason answered, digging his fork into his meal. "Robert is our pack's cook. Well he works when Nell doesn't; you can imagine how possessive she is over her kitchen." I could definitely imagine that.

"Doesn't he mind doing this?" I'd hate the thought of him being pissed at having to make food for two kids on a date.

Mason frowned, "You're kidding, right? Robert loves this kind of thing. He always says he got his romantic side from his father who was French."

"Well he definitely got his cooking skills from an angel because this is amazing." I wasn't even embarrassed that I had finished my food before Mason.

* * *

Half way through our main course, which consisted of stake, steamed vegetables and corn, I couldn't hold back on the question that had me thinking since we walked in. "How did you do it, Mason?"

Looking up from his plate with a mouthful of food, he swallowed. "Do what?"

I motioned my knife and fork around the diner. "All of this. It's..." Checking the clock on the back wall, I turned back, "quarter to ten at night, the diner should be busy as hell right now, but it's not. How did you do it?"

With his eyes boring into mine, he wore a half smile, "I've been coming here since I was younger. My dad used to bring a couple of us here after school then when I got to high school, Cole, Jake and I just carried on. They're like family to us here and I told them I had a lot
