loyal to a fault

MILA WAS SOBBING when I opened my door. She was disheveled and seemed completely out of it as I guided her inside and sat her down on the couch.

"What happened?" I ask while holding her. She cries even harder into my shoulder.

"He said it was too soon." Mila curls herself into the couch even more. "I told him I loved him Els."

I was too shocked to reply.

She sighed defeatedly. "I fucked up."

"What was his response?" I grab her hand, wanting to take some of her anxiety away.

"Enzo said we were going in too deep too soon. I don't understand, he apologized so much so we could stay together after I learned about the bet."

"What bet?" I yelled, shocked at her nonchalance. "Did he and his friends place a bet on you?"

"Yeah," she answers putting her head in her hands. "Apparently Seth started it, but Enzo called it off right away."

"I'm going to kick his ass," I vowed, fully persuaded to ask Seth about it later. "How dare they do that to you? You're not some fucking commodity they can place bets on."

"He's right though," she put her head on my shoulder as she adjusted her position. "I shouldn't have forgiven him. I should've valued myself more and not fall for him. I'm such a joke, so much for being independent."

"Hey," I put my hands on her face, squeezing her cheeks. "Don't let him bring you down like this. This is not the Mila I know. The girl I've known since we were fifteen is a smart, beautiful bitch who takes shit from no one. Fuck Enzo for fucking with your feelings."

"I fell too hard, too fast." She mumbled. "Els, I told him about what happened in high school."

"I'm so sorry Mila," I hug her. "It's okay, this will take time to get over, but you will get past this. I have full faith that you will find someone who doesn't screw you over for your status."

"Thanks," Mila was starting to calm down, her face was blotchy and red, but the way she held her head high told me that she was starting to feel better. "Is it alright if I crash here tonight? I don't want to go back."

"Of course," I said. "Why even ask? I just need to get some food since my fridge is basically empty. When I come back, we'll watch some movies and eat a tub of ice cream. In the meantime, you go sleep in the spare bedroom."

"Okay," she replied softly. Mila padded across the living room to the spare bedroom, although it was technically hers since no one but her stays over.

I waited a few minutes before I took out my phone and texted the person responsible for this shit show.

E: We need to talk

S: name the time and place

----

It's really fucking cold.

Spring is technically a few days, but just last week it snowed for a day. I told myself then that I had to get out of this place if I wanted keep my sanity. I was waiting outside the place I told Seth to come in a coat and scarf, but my ears were starting to lose sensation.

It was maybe about five minutes before I saw Seth crossing the street and walking towards me. When he saw me, he grinned and my heart constricted.

I cursed myself to keep a straight face and not give anything away, however, when Seth stopped in front of me, he noticed my teeth chattering.

Frowning, he took my hand and pulled me inside. "Why were you waiting in the cold?"

I ignored the question, "I need to make this quick."

"Okay," he said slowly. "What's wrong?"

"I heard about the bet," I let it sink in and try to make note of any changes in his expression. There were none.

"So what exactly did you hear?" He asked after a few moments passed.

"Don't act clueless Seth." I snapped at him. "Because of you my best friend had her heart broken. Who the fuck are you to go and place a bet on their relationship?"

His jaw ticked, I could tell because even as I yelled at him, my eyes went to his mouth. Seth's posture was rigid and his mouth was in a firm line. We were still standing near the door when suddenly a waiter came up to us.

"Excuse me," she looked at us sheepishly. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but you're blocking the way for others."

"Sorry for the inconvenience," Seth answered. "We'll go sit somewhere."

He didn't glance at once before he bounded towards the table in the furthest corner of the cafe. He stood there and then looked over to see if I was coming. I went over to the table and sat in the chair in front of him.

"I did so that Enzo could get the balls to go ask Mila out." He said, flipping through the menu.

"That doesn't give you the right to interfere with their relationship. If he truly liked Mila he would've found a way to ask her out without a motive. That's not normally the way a healthy relationship starts." I answered.

"What is normal to you Ellie?" His eyes met mine. "Did you think that you and your high society friends would've said yes to dating guys like me?"

"It doesn't matter what my definition of normal is. It wasn't your place to take it into your own hands so that Enzo could get laid."

"He got the girl though," he fully directed his gaze at me. "Did he not?"

"He did, but then he lost her because their relationship started with lies. There's no foundation then." I felt scrutinized as Seth's face didn't indicate anything.

"I'm failing to understand why you asked to meet up," Seth leaned back, his shirt rode up a little and my eyes immediately went to that spot. He noticed this and had a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. I rolled my eyes at thought that he wanted to hide it.

"From what I understand," his eyes now gleaming knowing he had the advantage. "You hate me, but at the same time you don't."

"Stop trying to analyze my feelings," I gritted out. "I want you to apologize to Mila for making her feel as if she wasn't a person but a fucking prize."

"I can do that," he said. "Only if you go out with me."

"Fuck you," I pushed my chair back and got up. "You could've just said you wouldn't. It would've saved us the time."

I was outside before Seth grabbed my hand and pulled me to him.

"You can deny that you want me," his breath controlled, but I could hear his erratic heartbeat. "But I'm not going to deny what I feel for you."

Seth then placed his hands on either side of my jaw just near my freezing ears and pulled my lips towards his.
