"Congratulations, Madelyn Gilmore! Your application has been processed, and you have been selected to join the diagnostic-speciality medical group at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital under Dr. Gregory House. For further instruction, please accept by phone to Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Dean of Medicine, at the phone number provided." ....

Madelyn Gilmore stared back at the email on her computer screen in disbelief. Fresh out of medical school, she was shocked she'd gotten accepted so soon. She thought to herself, 

Am I ready for this? Well, she was not perfectly sure, but it didn't matter––she could not pass this up. She entered the phone number provided and took a deep breath before calling Dr. Lisa Cuddy.

"Dr. Cuddy speaking." the woman answered with a voice like velvet. Madelyn exhaled, 

"Hello, hi, Dr. Cuddy," she began, "My name is Madelyn Gilmore, I've just received an email that I've been accepted to join the diagnostic-specialty group. I'm calling to confirm my acceptance". There was some noise on Cuddy's end as she was probably flipping through some papers. 

"Yes, great. I have you right here on file. I will forward you some more information and let Dr. House know you've accepted." she said enthusiastically. Madelyn smiled to herself. 

"You can start as soon as tomorrow, do you feel ready?" 

With another thick exhale, "Yes," Madelyn replied, "thank you so much". Whether or not she was confident about starting tomorrow, she knew saying yes was the right answer. 

"Ok. Great! See you tomorrow, Dr. Gilmore." Dr. Cuddy answered encouragingly. 

"Doctor Gilmore" Madelyn thought out loud. That was the first time she had every formerly been referred to as a doctor. She felt her smile spread wider, and she collapsed down onto her soft, linen-lined bed, 

"Tomorrow."
