It wasn't long before sweat ran down Sam's back, face, eventually soaking the dress sack she'd been provided.

Still, she decided the room was better than the last. It featured a bed, a real bed with a mattress, sheets, and pillow.

A few boxes stacked in the corner invited Sam, but she'd look through them later.

What excited for the most about the room was the window. It was a glass-pane circle, and she began to think of it as the eye to her release. Immediately she tried to latch, and first it stuck, but with sustained force that left an indent on her fingers, it gave way.

Sam swung the window open, cool air hitting her clammy face. There were trees and a rolling green lawn, so thick it resembled a carpet. Nearby, she saw two buildings with similar steepled roofs. They were vast, built from brick, and reminded her of...a church.

Faint laughter and squeals drew her attention. Across the street, a group of children passed a soccer ball on a field. The scene behind them was filled with row after row of houses.

I'm in a goddamn neighborhood.

One of the kids looked up, pointed, and waved wildly at her.

Stunned,Sam could only wave back.
