You watched from your sunchair Knuckles place down a golf ball on a tee. "Who's gonna bring it downtown? Knuckles that's who!" He answered his own question. Both Sonic and he were playing a friendly game of golf. You come along because why not? It was a sunny day and you needed to get out, that was the reason you came to this island in the first place, to have some time to yourself and enjoy the weather of the island. 

"Gonna pour Sonic a hurt-tonic! And the pain is gonna be chronic!"

"Okay, we get it!" Sonic snapped, as he got ready to flip the coin.

"Tail's!" Knuckles yelled, you watching him turn to the fox. "Tail's you flip it, I don' trust this guy.."

Sonic growled, watching Tail's flip the coin in the air and you heard Knuckles shout 'heads!' and a few moments later, you chuckled to yourself when you heard Knuckles mumble. "Lucky.."

With a small smirk on his face, Sonic threw the ball in the air and used his club to hit the gopher ball. It flew right into the hold that was located at the top of the mountain far away and it rolled down the underground tunnel, popping out of a hole right near Sonic.

"Don't look at me like that!" Knuckles snarled, seeing Sonic make a cocky smirk at him. He took the ball from Sonic and swung it, watching as it made its way in the air, and landed by the hole, slowly rolling to the hole.....only to disappoint all by it getting pushed back by....a leaf?

"One nothing, Sonic!" Tail's cheered. 

Even you were confused about how that was possible.

"Oh come on! You saw the wind blew that, right?!" Knuckles roared, hitting the ball again, only for the ball to hit now a flock of birds.  "What!" He whined.

You jumped when you saw Sonic sit beside you with his own sunchair, he even had a drink. "Hey! I want a drink!" You whined, still confused on how he even got it in the first place. Sonic rolled his eyes with a chuckle and handed you the smoothie. 

"You gotta factor bird migration. That's Gopherball 101." Sonic said, waving his index finger teasingly.

Knuckles growled and began to hit the ball once more, each time he hit the ball he missed all of them. He growled. "That's so unfair!" He whined.

"Maybe you need to work on your swing?" Tail's suggested.

"Are you kidding me? This has nothing to do with my swing! It has everything to do with luck!" Knuckles shouted, dumbfounded. With one last swing, and in utter confusion, the ball stopped in midair and fell to the ground, just in front of the hole. Knuckles, in a fit of rage, threw his club to the hole, to have it land in the hole. Knuckles eye twitched and you covered your ears when he let out a loud scream.

The day went by with Knuckles thinking that there was a shift in the luck universe or something, you honestly didn't care, but you were worried for Knuckles. He was hurting himself, so he could get the luck back to his side. You went for a walk to clear your mind until you heard the sound of a canon being fired. Looking up you could see Knuckles fly through the sky, screaming. 

"Oh come on-" You sighed. He hit a tree a few feet by you and fell hard on the ground. You watched a beehive fall onto his head with the bees surrounding him as they stung him. "AH! I CAN ALMOST FEEL MY LUCK CHANGING ALREADY!" He screamed. 

Soon enough, you helped Knuckles with his bee problem and quickly took off your bag and placed it beside you. Knuckles sat on the rock in front of you, pouting as he looked away when you placed the bandaids on his body. 

"Knuckles, you're crazy.." You spoke up. "No, I'm not, you are!" He retorted back making you sigh. "Am I the one listening to Stick's about all this luck balance and superstitions?" You asked, applying the last bandaid on his arm. 

Standing up, you helped him over to Sonic's shack seeing how his house was closer to your current route.

Sonic was there on his sunchair when from the corner of his eyes, he saw you and Knuckles towards him. He put down his book and stood, crossing his arms over his chest. "Oh man, Knuckles. You ok?" He asked. 

"Am I ok?" Knuckles said. "Are you ok, you mean?" He snapped, flicking Sonic's nose. "Or are you too nervous the Gopherball beatdown headed your-" Knuckles stopped himself, letting out a hack. "Gimme a minute, it's hard to trash talk with a punctured lung.." He coughed. 

You facepalmed upon hearing this.

"Looks like to me you're not in much condition to play anything," Sonic said with worry. 

"Hah! You only think I'm not in much condition to....whatever you said! But, in fact, I finally tipped the luck balance of the universe in my favor!" Knuckles grinned. "Your lucky streak is over Sonic! Brace yourself, cause there is nothing but sunny skies ahead for this-"

"O my god!" You screamed when a large fridge fell from the sky, falling atop Knuckles. Sonic placed a hand on his hip, and you sighed. This isn't gonna end well.

After making sure Knuckles was ok after that fridge fell on him, but when Amy called you with your communicator, you knew there was trouble. You made it to the coordinates Amy sent you, and you were right. 

There stood Knuckles at the bottom of the canyon with his arms stretched out while a meteor shower was current. "Come on meteors! Take your best shot!" He yelled. 

"We've gotta do something! He's gonna hurt himself!" Amy cried. 

"What do you suggest we do?" Sonic asked. 

"You could possibly let him win a match of golf?" You asked and Sonic blinked his eyes at you. 

"What else ya got?" He asked, now looking to Amy, making you throw your hands in the air.

Amy and Tails shrugged not having any other on what to do. 

"Fine, I'll talk to him," Sonic said as you watched him dash down to Knuckles. Thinking this will solve the problem, Knuckles a few moments of them now bickering, let out a loud 'LUCK' yell until he was cut off by a large boulder landing atop him again. You made a cringe face when Amy just facepalmed.

After Sonic told you the plan on what he was gonna do with Knux, you followed them to the plains where the gopher game started. "Go ahead, take your shot!" Sonic smiled. 

Knuckles hesitated before asking. Don't you feel the ground rumbling?"

"Nice try, Lucky!" Sonic joked, but you actually felt the ground shake for just a moment. 

Knuckles shrugged it off and took his swing, only for the ball to hit Eggman's Eggmobile as it flew past them, falling to the ground.

"Ok, I have to admit that was a little wired," Sonic said as he dashed in the direction Eggman flew. "A little? Are you kidding me!" Knuckles cried. You rubbed his arm in comfort before getting alerts on both your communicators. Knuckles lift you from the ground and onto his shoulder and ran after both Sonic and Eggman.

"The luck balance of the universe, what's that!" You heard the voice of Eggman cackle from afar.

"What? You believe in that stuff too?!" Tails shouted in disbelief. 

Knuckles ran to the scene, dropping you to the ground. Nearly out of breath. "Sorry, I'm late. What can I do-"Knuckles was cut off as he, along with you and the gang, dove out of the way from a huge chunk of metal falling from the sky and almost crushing you. 

"In unscathed!; a little schmizty, but no matter! It's also laundry day!" Eggman cheered, flying away with Orbot and Cubot, singing as he flew. 

"You guys ok? Knuckles asked, holding his head in shock. "Wow, that was nuts! Can you believe that?"

"We had him cornered! What are you doing here?!" Sonic snarled, making you stare at him in shock.

"Helping? Knuckles responded although it came more out more of a question when he heard Sonic say this. 

"Your not helping! Your just bad luck!" Sonic hissed. "I have an idea; Since you and your bad luck just hurt our side; how about you just join Eggman and make it official."

"Fine! If that's how your gonna be about it; I'm gonna work with someone who appreciates me!" Knuckles shouted in rage, before running off.

"Knuckles, come back!" Amy cried.

"Dude!" You snapped, but Sonic just grinned as he spoke, "Hold on a minute. Let's let this play out." You cocked an eyebrow up.

Doing as Sonic said, and sure enough, his plan has worked. As Eggman flew away, Knuckles walked back to the gang looking down at the ground after Eggman's robots got destroyed, "Wow, my bad luck follows me wherever I go.."

"Or is it good luck? After all, our side won." Sonic smiled. 

"But, I was on the other side.." Knuckles said.

"No, you weren't. " Sonic smirked. "I sent you on a secret for us."

"It was so secret. Even I didn't know about it!" 

"Yeah, you see., you switched sides and your bad luck overpowered Eggman's good luck, but you were really on our side. So by losing, you won!" Stick's cheered.

"Wow...Yeah!" Knuckles beamed making you smile. 

With that said, you and the gang began to walk back to the shacks.  "You know what I've been thinking?" Knuckles asked the gang. 

"Where do crazy luck theories come from?" Tails' answered jokingly.

"When the bad luck leaves me, where does it go?" 

Suddenly, as if to answer Knuckles' question, a large piece of one of Eggman's robots that were destroyed earlier fell upon Tail's. You gasped and Tail's murmmered. "There's a perfectly good......explanation for this." Unable to lift the weight in the metal,  Tail's just sat there and accepted his fate.
