"Sky, go get the mail please" my mom called

I set down my book taking my glasses off and slipped on my fuzzy Crocs.

The trees still had their bright green leaves and the sun was shining brightly. There wasn't a cloud in sight making it feel like a true summer day.

I smiled had the feeling of the warmth of the sun, continuing to walk outside towards the mailbox.

I quickly scanned through the mail seeing that it was nothing but bills and my mother's Southern Living magazine.

Boring

I signed as I walked back into my home grabbing some salt and vinegar chips ready to dive back into the world of werewolves and vampires.

" Is this all the mail?"

I nodded at my mom barely paying her any attention.

I really don't appreciate her interrupting my reading.

" Have you checked your email Sky?"

I huffed putting my book down knowing I'm not going to get my peace and quiet.

"No" I tell her with a mouthful of potatoes chips.

" Go check it please" she says sweetly

What is up with her?

I walk upstairs annoyed and grabbed my laptop. My laptop was really old and it took forever to load so I never used it. My mom gave it to me after she was tired of using it.

I was taken back from all of the emails I hadn't checked. They mostly were just emails from random accounts. I have had this email since I was ten and over that time I've created a lot of accounts with different websites.

I scrolled threw them slowly, cringing at some of the conversations my twelve year old self had. I was a weird child. I had scanned threw about a hundred before I gave up looking for something that looked interesting.

I was about to log out when I see an email from MBPA suddenly come in.

Confused, I quickly click on the email.

Dr. Edward Deen, headmaster of Mountain Brook Preparatory Academy

"MOM" I called running down the stairs as fast as I could while holding my laptop.

"Hmm..." she hummed, continuing to ignore me.

I placed my computer in front of her raising an eyebrow.

"What is this?" I asked, breathing hard from running.

She just shook her head smiling at me, keeping her attention locked on the food in front of her.

"Mom... What the hell is this" I half yelled

"Skylar Paige Rowan do not raise your voice at me. I am your mother you treat me with respect" she said placing her hand on her hip while pointing the knife that she was using to cut the carrots.

I mentally rolled my eyes at her mumbling an apology.

"What do you think it is?" She asked

I rubbed my hand over my face not fully understanding what is happening.

"I got a scholarship to MBPA but I don't know how?"

"Honey... Why did you and your dad go there the other day" She asked giving me a soft smile

I shrugged my shoulders shaking my head. I still didn't understand why we went but I'm sure it had something to do with this email.

"Your Dad heard about the scholarship from his boss. We just want what's best for you" she said

" But..."

I couldn't comprehend what I'm supposed to do. I don't want to go to MBPA. I want to stay at home and go to my old school.

" So y'all applied for a scholarship to go there and without asking me?"

She sighed placing the knife down.

"Skylar, you are so smart and we just want what is best for you. This school can help you so much"

I shook my head at her answer. This school only helps people who can afford it.

"Skylar, think about what colleges would think if you graduated from there. You can get into some really great schools."

" Do you not think I can get into a good school without graduating with rich kids" I sneered

I knew I was cutting it close with my 'attitude' but I truly did not care. This is something that affects my life, not theirs.

She opened her mouth to respond but we were interrupted by a sound.

My dad walked into our home with a big smile on his face.

"Skylar, can you go get the mail?" He asked, setting his bag on the floor.

"She knows Mike"

My dad's eyes widened at my mother's words but his face turned into a frown when made eye contact.

" You don't seem very happy"

I scoffed at his words. Did he think I would jumping up for joy? Did he not remember how cranky I was after we left from the tour?

" Why would I be? You two applied for a scholarship for me to go to a school, I don't want to go to." I raised my index finger going back and forth between them

"Sky-" my dad started

"No" I interrupted " May I add, taking away from some other person who wanted this scholarship"

My parents were quiet for a few minutes. I watched my mom come over to me slowly and placed her hand on my shoulder.

"Skylar, we love you and just want what's best." She said softly " If you really don't want to go we won't make you"

I gave a nod with a slight smile. At least I had some choice in the matter.

"Just think about" my dad added

"Okay, I'll think about it"

I'm no way in hell thinking about it.
