What's The Real Reason

It's been a week since we've been back. Well, since we've all been back, apart from Neymar, who ended up going to Brazil with Caro and Davi to visit her family.

Tomorrow was officially my last day at Paris-Saint German. But that was the last of my worries right now.

I was sat in Neymar's garden on the couch, the lights from the pool being the only thing lighting up the area. He was on his way home, and I was patiently waiting.

'Oh, how good it feels to be home.' he appeared from inside the house, leaning in to give me a kiss but I moved my head back. 'What's wrong?'

I couldn't look at him. I didn't even know how to start the conversation. I was... heartbroken.

'You lied to me.' I said quietly, not looking at him.

'What?' he asked, and even though I couldn't see him, I knew his eyes were piercing me.

'You lied to me.' I said sternly, standing up, finally my eyes meeting his.

'What are you talking about?'

'Why did you go to Brazil, Neymar?'

'I already told you.' he said taking a step towards me, but he only made me take one back. 'Caro and Davi we-'

'The real reason.' I said cutting him off.

'I don't know what you're talking about.' he said not breaking the eye contact.

'It's funny, you know...' I smiled softly. 'Because Caro called me and she had no idea she was meant to see her family. Her and Davi never left for Brazil, Neymar.' I said taking a step towards him. 'So what's the real reason?'

He didn't say anything, his eyes now looking down and no longer into mine. Tears started forming in my eyes, but I was trying my hardest to fight them.

I didn't want him to see me cry. And I didn't want him to be the reason for my tears.

I let out a nervous chuckle and sat back down on the couch. 'Please tell me it's not what I think it is.' I said looking at him with pleading eyes. 'Please.' I said quietly.

How pathetic.

'It was nothing.' he said after a few minutes. 'I... I just...' he took a deep breath. 'Bruna, she—'

His words started fading for me, not being able to focus on anything anymore. Bruna Biancardi. His ex-girlfriend. No, his ex-fiancé. There's been a few talks about the reasons why she started liking his pictures again, but I brushed them off. I didn't want to believe it. But it all happened after his birthday, the night he mysteriously vanished. I tried to brush it off, but I couldn't anymore.

And maybe it was better for him to break my heart, rather than me doing it after he finds out I'll be returning to London.

I stood up, facing him one more time. 'Is she the reason you vanished on your birthday?'

No answer.

'I need to know, Ney...' I said shaking my head. 'Is she?'

He nodded his head, not looking at me.

'Okay...' I said quietly, every part of me wanting to jump in that pool and drown.

'It meant nothing.' he said trying to grab my hands but I moved back. 'Irina... she called and I only went to make it clear that what happened on my birthday was a mistake.'

Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.

'You lied to me too.' he said sternly, my eyes instantly meeting his.

'What are you talking about?' I asked confused. 'Are you seriously turning this on me?' I asked in disbelief. 'When have I ever lied to you?'

'What happened between you and Kylian?'

'What?!' I asked, my eyes widening. 'What the hell are you talking about?'

'I know about you and him on that terrace. And then you're the one that disappeared.'

'What the hell...' I said shocked, not knowing where this was coming from. 'Nothing happened between me and Kylian on your birthday, Neymar.'

'I saw you.'

'No you didn't.' I said sternly. 'Because if you did, you wouldn't have walked away. You would've caused a scene and probably punched him.' I said knowing him too well. 'So whoever told you that something happened...' I took a deep breath. 'They're lying.'

And that was the truth. Nothing happened. Yes, he tried to kiss me but I walked away and then I went to help Luca.

'So where did you disappear then?'

'Luca was feeling sick so Andrea called me to help her.' I said laughing, because of how stupid everything was. 'I didn't sneak off with Kylian.'

He didn't say anything, but by the way he was looking at me, I knew he didn't believe me.

'I would never do that to you.' I said in disbelief. 'Never.'

'I don't believe you.' he said quietly.

'So you fucked her because you thought I cheated on you?! Do you realise how stupid you sound right now?!'

No answer.

'You know me, Neymar. And the fact that you think I'll just throw away everything we have just like that...' I said shaking my head, the tears trying to force their way out.

Not being able to stay there one more second without bursting into tears, I walked past him and towards the house.

I needed to get out. I needed to cry. I needed to scream.

And for the first time in my life I realised how easy it is for someone to shatter one's heart.

'Irina...' I heard Neymar's voice calling, but I kept walking. And thankfully, he didn't follow.

I got into my car and started driving, tears pouring down my cheeks, the air in the car suddenly becoming too thick to breath.

I was sat in my car, unable to breath. I decided to pull over somewhere so I can calm down, my vision too blurry to be able to drive.

But I couldn't calm down. I couldn't stop crying. All I wanted was to be as far away as I could. As far away from him.

I started calling Andrea and Luca, but I got no answer. The calling was then followed by a few messages. I didn't tell them what happened, only asked if they're busy. As after a few minutes I still didn't get a response back, I decided to drive to the only person that wouldn't ask too many questions.

The one person who would sit in silence with me.

I found myself in front on Kylian's apartment door. I took a deep breath and knocked once, the door opening a few seconds later. In the doorway appeared a shirtless Kylian, with only a sheet covering his lower body. His expression turned into a worried one as soon as he saw the state of me.

'Ky, who's there?' a girl's voice was heard from inside.

'I'm sorry.' I said wiping away my tears. 'I should've called before.' I took a few steps back, ready to head for the elevator. 'I'm-I'm sorry.'

'Woah, woah, woah.' he grabbed my arm not letting me get too far. 'Come in, what the hell.'

I followed him inside and sat on one of the stools at the kitchen table. Kylian walked into his room and said something to the girl, something I couldn't hear. He then returned fully clothed, with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt on. Not long after, the girl walked out, my head turning on the opposite side, as 'Irina Davies shows up crying at Kylian Mbappe's home' isn't the headline I wanted to wake up to tomorrow.

Kylian sat on the other side of me, his eyes searching for mine.

However, this time mine didn't meet his.

We sat in silence for a while, until he decided to speak up. 'Do you want to talk about it?'

I shook my head in response. 'No.' I said through sobs. 'I don't want to talk about it, because if talk about it... I might never be able to stop crying and...' I took a deep breath.

'Okay.' he said quietly, nodding his head.

'Okay.' I sighed.

'Whatever you need... I'm here.' he said walking around the table.

I nodded my head to show him I understand, but the tears kept rolling down my cheeks. I covered my face with my hands, Kylian instantly wrapping his arms around me.

Our attention was grabbed by my phone's ringtone.

Luca is calling...

'Are you not gonna take that?' he asked.

As much as I wanted to, Luca would ask too many questions and that's not what I wanted right now. It's not what I needed. Luckily, he didn't insist. Or at least that's what I thought.

Kylian's phone rang next. He turned his phone around for me to see Luca's name on his screen.

'Don't.' I said quietly.

But without listening to me, he answered. I couldn't hear what Luca was saying, but I was hearing Kylian's responses.

'Yeah, she's with me.' 'I don't know.' 'Okay.'

And with that, he ended the call, both of us returning to the silence we started with. All this time I could feel his eyes on me, while I was crying my heart out.

***

Luca barged into the apartment, positioning himself in front of me.

I couldn't look at him. I didn't want him to see me like this. And most importantly, I didn't want him to know that the person I loved the most in this world just shattered my heart.

'Irina.' he said sternly. 'Irina, look at me.'

I didn't.

'Irina.'

After a few minutes of him trying, I decided to look at him, my bloodshot eyes meeting his. Luca was my soulmate, so I didn't have to say anything for him to know what's wrong.

A look was enough.

'I'm going to kill him.' he said after a few seconds, rushing towards the door.

Thank God for Kylian's reflexes, who caught him before he was able to run out the apartment.

'What the hell is going on?' Kylian asked confused. 'Wait...' he's head turned towards me. 'Him? Neymar? Is this about Neymar?'

A great sob escaped me, making me cover my face with shaking hands.

After I managed to calm down a little I started explaining to the boys what happened.

I shrugged my shoulders. 'I don't know...'

'What is wrong with him?' Luca asked pacing around the kitchen. 'Why would he do that?'

'Because, ermm...' I took a deep breath. 'Because he thinks I hooked up with you on his birthday.' I said meeting Kylian's eyes.

'What?!' They both said at the same time.

'Yeah...' cold tears started to stream down my face once again.

'But you were with me most of the night.' Luca said angrily.

'And nothing happened on that terrace.' Kylian added.

'He doesn't believe me.' I shook my head. 'And there's erm... there's one more thing.'

'What?' Kylian asked worried.

'I'm leaving.'

'Where the hell do you think you're going in this state?' Luca said annoyed.

'I'm going back to London.'

'What?' Kylian's eyes widened.

'What do you mean you're going back to London?'

'My contract won't be renewed. Tomorrow is my last day.' I looked away, not brave enough to face their eyes.

Luca's fist hit the wall and stormed out the apartment without saying a word.

'Leave him.' I told Kylian who was ready to follow him and bring him back.

He did as I said, looking at me with sad eyes. And I could swear I saw them fill up with tears before he decided to look away.
