Dylan's POV

Another day. Another time to study.

I knocked on Melanie's door a couple of times, but no answer. I take my phone out of my right pocket in my shorts to check the time. Where can she be at this time? I lean on her door patiently waiting for someone to open, otherwise I came pointlessly.

The door suddenly opens and I nearly fall on Melanie but manage to balance out and stand up straight, "Ahh there you are! You took quite a while" I cock an eyebrow as I rest on the side of her door and she looks rather captivated when her eyes go down my topless body.

"I see you like what you see" I smirk and send her a quick wink automatically interrupting her from her thoughts.

"WHAT? NO!... I mean come in?" She steps aside to let me into the house and she shakes her head after she realises how she reacted to seeing me topless, I however take it as a compliment. She makes her way into the kitchen and I follow her because I don't want to seem rude and wait for her in her room, plus I never saw the rest of her house.

Before I make my way into her house, I quickly pull my top over my head. I haven't realised it was off until she pointed it out and I kinda feel embarrassed I must admit. What if her mom opened the door and saw me. Maybe next time I'll just jog with my top on.

I enter the kitchen straight after her. A big kitchen I have to say. A massive white kitchen counter shaped in a L shape with another big square kitchen counter in the middle and dining table made from white wood on the other side of the kitchen.

"Want something to drink?" She asks me while she see's me looking around the kitchen, I turn around to face her standing in front of a massive silver refrigerator, "would be nice of you yeah" I say joking around since the weather is killing everyone. So hot I can barely breathe properly.

She hands me a glass of Pepsi with lots of ice in it, so I decide to sit on a red leather stool under the square counter. She's facing me with her back towards me because she's making some food, "You want something to eat?" she asks politely.

"Erm, no. I'm good, thanks." I say in response, picking my head of the counter to look at her. She's wearing hot pink shorts and my eyes can't help but linger on her butt a little longer than they intended to.

Her head turns back to meet my eyes and I fake cough, "home alone?"

She nods, "yeah, parents went to my cousins birthday party." She says as she's pouring boiling water from the kettle into her pot noodles.

"How come you didn't go with them?" I ask and she sits down on a stool opposite me, "I had to study" she says and mimes quotation marks with her hands, "ooh turning bad aren't you?" I tease.

She shakes her head and smiles back at me whilst holding a fork full of noodles in her hand, "I don't get along with her. We used to like each other, well more like grow up together, spent every single day together, but I guess we just grew apart as time went by. She was playing at something she never was and never will be" she finished talking and something told me she was kind of relieved by the fact she told someone.

I don't know what to say simply because I can't relate to that, I'm just thankful something like that didn't happen between me and the boys, "What exactly was she playing at? And you don't have to answer if you don't want to, I'm just interested now that you've started talking about it...Sorry if I'm being too personal, didn't mean to" I cut myself off before I offend her.

"Oh no, you're alright. We just started hanging out with different people, I simply hung out with the people that believed in me, helped me become successful and tried to help me grow as a better person, she on the other hand hung out with the complete opposite people, you know the people that are 'fun' to hang around with but get you into trouble all the time. She changed a lot and sometimes was even jealous of me after I told her what me and my friends have been up to."

I sighed, "yeah well people can be tricky sometimes, you'd think you would stay with someone like her even after college, can't always count on that right?"

"Well no, I always knew that one day we won't be as close as we used to be, she transferred into a different school when we were kids, so that's where it all started to go down between us, I just never thought it would end like this. Not even saying hi to each other when we accidentally walk on the same street" She explained and her voice started to trail off a bit.

"Well am sorry about what happened between the two of you. Must've been awful, having a person that was always there for you, suddenly not being there, I just have to knock on wood, something like that didn't happen to me and hope it won't" I sympathise with her and knock on the kitchen counter three times.

I don't know what went into her but the nerd can really talk when she wants to, I feel like sharing little things like that can actually bring us closer as friends, which is actually good because then it wouldn't have to be so awkward and to be honest she's not that bad, I assumed worse.

"Yeah thanks", she gets up from the stool to put the pot noodle in the bin because she finally finished eating it, "So where do you wanna start today?" she asks me about studying again and I internally sigh.

"Ummm, I don't know. Pizza?" A smile finds a way to her face when I mentioned pizza, but she starts shaking her head, "Maybe not since I don't know when my parents are coming back" she replies.

"Come on, you gotta relax sometimes, ya know? Like take a break from studying, worrying and stuff. Plus it's not gonna take that long, we're just getting pizza and then coming back" I stand up from my stool to walk up to her and grab her by her hand to drag her out.

I can't help to notice how soft her hand is.

She's still being stubborn and not moving, so I stop, bend over down to her knees and decide to put her over my shoulder as she starts screaming and slapping my back, "Just know that this is your fault, if it wasn't for your stubbornness, you wouldn't be on my shoulder right now" I tried saying over her screaming.

"Whatever." she finally lets in and sighs. She finally gave up.

I put her on the ground once I close the front door to her house, we walk to Domino's which isn't that far away from her.

Two guys cycling past us start staring at Melanie and I can tell she's uncomfortable with it because she's pulling her shorts down and I give her a look. "I'm not quite comfortable with people looking me up and down. I would have changed but you practically dragged me out."

"Oh come on, you've got a nice figure" she looks away and starts blushing, "for a nerd" I tease and she fakes a gasp, then nudges me with her elbow starts giggling to herself, making me grin.

We get to the place and order a medium half and half pizza to share. We decide to take it outside and sit on the outdoor tables in the terrace since the weather is so gorgeous today.

"So tell me Melanie, what do you like to do when you're not studying, besides reading books?" I small talk, actually wanting to know a little more about the girl who's been tutoring me for the past 2 weeks.

She swallows the bite in her mouth before answering my questions, "I feel like you're going to laugh." she starts but continues none the less, "I love watching comic con videos from the Marvel movies." she says in a low tone.

I'm too stunned to speak, "I was not expecting that." my mouth is agape.

She laughs, "Did you expect me to say something like, 'I love to sing the periodic table song'?"

"A little, yeah." I admit and chuckle.

"That's so stereotypical, why is it that when someone's smart all everyone thinks they do is study and solve equations for fun?" she takes a sip of her drink, "Like, yes, I'm smart. But that doesn't mean I love to do math, nobody loves doing it-" she cuts herself off, "Hold up, that's a lie, I do love math, but who doesn't love the language of the universe?" her hands end up on her head and retreat, gesturing explosions, "mind blown." she finishes.

She's cute, I think to myself.

She clears her throat out, "So tell me Dylan, what do you like to do besides playing football?"

I shake my head to her teasing me with my own words, "I actually do enjoy singing the periodic table song." I say and laugh shortly after seeing the look on her face, "I'm just kidding, obviously."

I think about my answer for a second, "Well if you must know Melanie Rivers, I like to dance."

Her eyes question me as if I'm actually telling her the truth, "But nobody knows that so if I go to school on Monday and hear rumours about me dancing, I'll know who spread them."

She mimes zipping her mouth and throwing the keys behind her.

"I really enjoyed this, thanks for forcing me to go out- and I mean this in the best way possible, but I don't know when my parents are coming back, so I really have to get back." her eyes sparkle and I now have a smirk on my face, "You're very welcome, Melanie Rivers."

I don't know why I like her name rolling off my tongue.

"I'll walk you back." I say.

It's very weird for me to say that and actually mean it, because normally every time I'd say that phrase, I'd usually be going back to the girls house and walking out in the morning.

Our walk to her house was pretty much silent after that, but we're now at the entrance to her front door and her parents are still not home yet.

I lean against the door frame, leg crossed over the other, "I guess I'll see you on Monday?" I ask shooting her a grin.

"I mean, you don't have to go... we can watch a movie or something, if you're down for it?"

My eyes go down to her lips and back up, looking her in the eyes. I don't realise I licked the bottom of my lips, until I see her eyes scan my movements, "Yeah, I'd like that."

I say and instantly make my way up to her room like she directed me. Not long before she joins me in her room, placing two glasses of Coke onto her bed side table.

She crouches down before her TV, opening up the door from the TV stand, seeing a bunch of Marvel and DC DVD's. She's definitely a big fan.

"So which do you wanna watch, X-men or The Dark Knight?" her voice fills the room after it being so quiet for a while.

I shrug, forgetting that she can't see me because her back is towards me.

When she stands up a little to quickly, she stumbles upon her own feet, falling onto the bed, catching herself before she hits it. Unexpectedly she meets my gaze and holds her breath,  just looking into my eyes, without blinking, getting closer to my face by millimetres.

Her breath is on my skin and I can't help but notice how long her eyelashes are- almost touching her eyebrows and her eyes- her eyes are so damn big and dreamy.

I force myself to start blinking, faking a cough to break the staring contest.

Was I going to kiss her?

No. I can't do this to her. She's so innocent.

"So, errrm... did you- did you... make a choice?" she stutters before moving right to the back of the bed pretending like she wasn't sitting comfortably where she was now.

"No, it's your choice." I say trying to make it less awkward.

She nods and purses her lips together, "The Dark Knight, it is."
