Dylan's POV

I straighten my shirt with my hand before I knock on her door. Okay, time to play. Be cool Dylan, just be cool...

I have no idea why my palms are sweating.

The door slightly opens and two brown eyes peek out so I decide to give a light nod. I can't exactly make out who it is, but I don't want to be rude. The door further opens and I see Melanie's dad with a grin on his face, "Ahh, come in son, what brings you here today?" he asks as I step inside the little hallway hoping Melanie will be down in a couple of seconds since she probably heard her dad and knows that I'm already here.

I hope this won't be as awkward and too jolly like her parents always are. "Oh Melanie hasn't told you?" He blinks waiting for me to carry on since he probably doesn't know about anything, "Um, I... thought- I thought that I would take Melanie to the movies this evening... as a thanks, nothing serious" I mumble my sentence through since it didn't fail to get awkward for me.

He gives me a look of slight confusion, "As, uh- as a... as a thanks for umm, you know, all the study lessons she's been giving me. I really appreciate that" I clear out for him, he smiles and places his hand on my shoulder, shaking it a bit as to say 'I know it's a date but I approve'.

I start shaking my head relentlessly trying to say he's got the wrong idea, "you sure son?" he asks me and I start nodding my head relentlessly again, he just smiles, taps my shoulder once more and goes back off into the living. And why is he always calling me son? Such a weird thing to do.

As if on cue, Melanie came downstairs in her black skinny jeans, baby blue tight shirt and a black leather jacket, wearing some black ankle converse shoes to match her outfit. Her long chocolate brown hair is curled and bounces with every step she takes down the stairs.

Her gaze finally meets mine and a honest grin appears on her face, "hey I didn't know you were going to be here so early" she says as she jokingly slaps my hand that's in the pocket of my blue jeans.

I shrug a bit too innocently, "Well what can I do? You hate when I'm late" she giggles a bit and nods after staring into my eyes for a while.

"So can we go?" I say wanting to get out of the door immediately because it's so warm in her house. "Yeah sure, mom I'll be home around eleven-ish okay?!" she shouts the last part since her mother is in the kitchen washing the dishes, "Whaaat!! Eleven?!" A voice screams out of the kitchen and we soon hear footsteps coming towards us.

"Okay fine, ten. Love you, mwah!" Melanie shouts back and gives her a kiss on the cheek when she comes into the hallway. Her mom just smiles and waves us a goodbye, Melanie closes the door behind us, dragging me behind her not even letting me say bye to her mom or dad.

I don't think she noticed her hand slipped into mine while she was dragging me out but I can't say I hate it. She immediately retreats her hand when she feels me squeeze her hand in mine and starts walking extra fast.

Who is she trying to escape? A grin is placed on my face once again when I realise it probably made her uncomfortable, our hands together.

"What's the rush huh?" I cock an eyebrow and she rolls her eyes, "Umm better seats?" she replies in a 'duh' tone.

I chuckle to myself and then look up at her, "You look good tonight" I casually compliment, licking the bottom of my lip.

Her eyes sparkle before her lips part open, "Thank you. I tried to be cute tonight." She dressed up because of me?

"I didn't want to look like a troll next to you, cause have you seen yourself? You're the definition of perfect!" she says very quickly then blows out, trying to catch a breath, "it's not fair to the rest of us. I'm pretty sure God was impressed with himself when he made you."

I want to desperately not smile, but she's making it very hard for me. Her honesty is so refreshing, I haven't met a girl so opened to flirting, but knowing her, it's probably just compliments, or even just blabbing, she probably has no idea what's coming out of her mouth.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." I sheepishly look down.

She fakes a laugh, "Oh please, I bet you're in the mirror every morning, cheering yourself on, kissing your biceps and all."

And just like that her compliments turn into insults. I still have to chuckle though, "If I tell you no, you'll probably think I'm lying, so I'll just stay quiet and compliment you instead," I say and she nods her head to my statement, not fully responding to the last part of my sentence, "Melanie River, you are gorgeous..." I start.

Her eyes find mine and she just smiles, "Go on..."

I can tell she's joking around and thinks I'll just say something stupid like 'when God made you, he smirked, knowing he did a good job' but I don't. Instead, I just peer into her eyes with a smile, "You're so gorgeous, sometimes you appear in my dreams as an angel."

Her cheeks turn red in an instant, she shakes her head before nudging an elbow into my waist, "You don't mean that." she quietly says and I can tell she's somehow insecure about how she looks, which I honestly don't understand.

She's not like other girls. She doesn't wear too much makeup, she doesn't thread her eyebrows, she doesn't dye her hair or wear overly trendy clothes, but somehow she's prettier than most girls I've met. She has her own style and she's rocking it whether people think it's cool or not.

"I meant every word of it."

She smiles going serious, before the expressions leaves her face and replaces with another teasing one, "Let's go before you fall in love with me."

My legs glue themselves into the ground for a while, shocked by what she just said to me. I shake the thought out of my head, because that can't be real, there's no chance that's happening. So I unglue my legs and jog over to her, heading into the theatre.

* * *

Melanie and I walked out squealing. Well me not so much. "That movie was awesome, literally, ohhh my God!!" She jumps up from excitement.

"You know which part was my favourite? When Wonder-woman came into the scene with her costume on, damn she was hot." I told her and she rolls her eyes at me, "Oh God, did you actually watch anything else other than women in that film?"

"Umm, yeah. Ben Affleck" I reply in a duh tone this time.

"Gotta admit, he's hot!" she states.

I took her to see Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. She loves the DC films, animated series, comics and just everything else there is left, so I thought I'd take her to see that since we've been watching all the batman movies at her place, and I can't say I didn't have a good time.

I reminisce to the time I spoke to her for the first time. I thought she was a total study geek. Needless to say how wrong I was, I mean sure, she's crazy smart and loves school which still makes her a geek, but how wrong I was about her personality, she's so light and bubbly and she can have a laugh and tease me like there's no tomorrow.

Plus, her confidence is immaculate. No girl has ever, ever, called me an asshat, the second time they spoke to me. I like that she stands her ground and isn't intimidated by me, just like everyone else is. Maybe that's why I like to hang out with her, she surprises me. Most girls, I can read, her... not so much.

I can't believe how blind I was a month ago, calling her a nerd, saying we'd never manage to be friends, but hey look at us now, going to see movies together. So never judge a book by it's cover because it might just surprise you how different they really are in reality, just like she surprised me. I would've never thought she'd be something like this.

I know everyone has an inner nerd within them and the fact that she's a nerd over stuff like Marvel and DC, make it so much easier for to talk to her because I can't imagine her talking to me about stuff like makeup. Tasha always used to talk about that stuff and I never understood it.

Without even noticing we reached her front door, obviously I was going to take her home, it's quarter past ten already, its dark and I don't want to her die in the middle of the streets and then blame it on myself.

"Hey how was the movie?" Her mother spoke the minute she heard us opening the door.

"Wasn't bad at all." Melanie answered whilst taking her shoes off and I just nodded along with her.

"I'll... Uh, leave you two alone." Her mom mentions and leaves us in the hallway. We both laugh at her mother's comment, as if we're going to kiss or something. This wasn't even a date, just a thanks for what she's done for me, basically two friends hanging out and that's how she sees it as well. Or I hope she does.

She then nods her head in a upwards motion to say come upstairs, so I quickly take my shoes off and follow her to her bedroom.

"Ugh please don't turn the light on, my eyes sting a bit, should've brought my glasses with me. Just wait here a second, I'm just gonna use the bathroom, I'll be right back." She says so I decide to sit on her bed patiently waiting for her to come back.

She comes back after a minute, "Um, can I actually use the bathroom too?" I ask. She nods, "Of course you can, you don't have to ask" she giggles.

I come back to see her kneeling on the floor looking at some books. Or movies? I'm not quite sure since I can't see properly because of the lighting.

"Hey come here," she taps the floor besides her so I sit down next to her.

"These are my old Maths and Science mock tests. There's a few that are from last year, but the rest are older. The teachers let me have them, call me sentimental or whatever, but not a single one of them is below 94%. They're yours, you need them more than I do." She finishes.

I can't help but look at her without blinking the whole time she spoke. She catches me looking at her and a light blush appears on her cheeks, "You're welcome." She says.

"I like the way you explain things" I say not caring if I'm being really cheesy or not. She giggles and drops her head making her hair fall into her face, she takes a few strands of hair and puts it behind her ear as she lifts her head up looking at me again and smiles whilst doing it.

"I had fun today, we should do it again sometimes" I just nod relentlessly, thinking to myself hell yeah we should.

"We definitely should." I then say out loud.

"Okay, I should probably get going. Thanks for everything." I say as I begin to stand up and straighten my shirt with my hand again. She stands up as well, nods and hands me her mock tests.

"Yeah okay, see you soon then" She says as she comes closer wanting to give me a hug. I wrap my arms around her waist with the tests still in my hands, give her a last smile and walk downstairs.

I can still feel the warmth of her body on my chest.

Melanie's mom comes out from the living room, watching me as I'm putting my shoes on, waiting for the right moment to say goodbye.

"Thank you for everything Mrs. Rivers, have a good night" I say as I walk out, "any time Dylan, see you later" she adds on and closes the door behind me.

I nearly get to my street as my phone suddenly vibrates.

Michael: Hey man, so what have you been up to today then?

Dylan: Hey nothing much just done some studying. You?

Michael: Hmm. How weird studying in the cinema
