Melanie's POV

I don't know why I offered to help him. I should have just kept walking away from him when he screamed out nerd, but I don't know, I guess he just looked like a lost puppy.

Guilty also isn't a feeling I like, and that's exactly how I'd feel if I kept on walking.

I can tell he's horrified, it shows in his pale skin. Must be awful to fail a subject. I wouldn't know though.

I can't help but laugh though. At first sight he's so intimidating, then you hand him a math notebook and he looks like he's halucinating.

"Why are you laughing again?" He questions.

I shake my head, "Nothing. I do have an idea though."

"I don't like ideas" he states, his face still pale.

I laugh once more, "I can tell, but you'll have to do it either way if you want to pass maths." I finish.

Dylan's POV

We get to her door and she stops to open it. "Oh, before we enter, my parents are weird and crazy so just don't listen to them" she warns me. "Aren't all parents though?" she smiles and opens the door, we take our shoes off and make way up to her bedroom.

"Oh hello sweety, you didn't tell us you're going to have a guest" Melanie stops midway the stairs to greet her mother. "Darren? Melanie brought a friend... a boy friend" her mother shouts from excitement and stressed on the 'boy' word a little too much.

Her dad comes to join us on the stairs, their faces glowed up when they saw me. Aw what a wonderful family, just a little to jolly probably.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Rivers, lovely to meet you." I went down the stairs to shake both of their hands, I looked up at Melanie and saw her rolling her eyes.

"What do you do son?" her father asks me and Melanie speaks before me, "Dad! He's not—"

"I'm a football player," I interrupted her.

"Ahh football player, nice. I love football" her dad compliments me and her mother just stands there in delight listening to the little conversation we made.

"Captain." I add on whilst pointing to myself. Not to brag though, I am quite good, "Oh captain!" he repeats in joy.

"Okay, that's enough. He's not my boyfriend and we're not together, we're just here to study" Melanie says from upstairs still standing in the same spot as she was, "Yeah, unfortunately" I comment and they start laughing.

"Dylan, studying!" she reminds me and points at her imaginary watch on her wrist, "Okay, better get to it then" I say and shake both of their hands once again and make my way up the stairs as I see Melanie happily nodding along.

"Have fun!" her mother says while we're still walking up the stairs.

We enter her bedroom, quite big compared to mine, but then again girls usually have bigger bedrooms anyway, they need to put all of their shit somewhere right? All the stuff like make-up and hair straighteners and curlers, high heel shoes and bags, a lot of bags. Or like the little oily products in little bottles they put into their hair before drying it.

She closes the door and I hear the lock pop a second after the door's closed. "Oh so you gonna lock the door now? Okay, didn't think you'd be into that stuff" I start to chuckle but her face stays serious.

She comes closer to me and sits down on her pink rug whilst getting her laptop out, "yeah I don't want them opening the door" she says not dropping her serious face.

"You're starting to creep me out a little" I admit and she laughs, "I'm not gonna eat you" she taps the rug besides her to tell me to sit down next to her. I'm actually scared now.

She laughs out again when she sees the look on my face, "I'm just kidding, God you're such a baby".

"You really scare me, if you like me just say it, it's gonna be less awkward for you and less scary for me... I think" I say as I sit down opposite her.

"You still think I like you?" she giggles.

"Yeah I do actually, you wanna know how to talk to guys? Be relaxed about it, not awkward and scary like now" I advice her.

"Firstly, I don't like you, I'm helping you pass Science and Maths, that's a big difference. Secondly, I don't think you're going to make it the next day because today is going to be enough for you already and thirdly, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TALK TO GUYS AND NEED HELP??" she half shouts the last part making it sound a bit way too dramatic.

"Firstly, good. Secondly, you wanna bet? And thirdly, because I can see and I'm not blind or deaf" I mimic her way of speaking.

"Yes I do want to bet actually and secondly, are you some kind of a love expert or something? Or are you making me an offer to teach me how to talk to guys? Because that would be ridiculous and pointless."

Wow she finally started speaking. Although I must say, for a nerd she is quite sassy.

"Fine, if I make it tomorrow, which I will, you're taking me out for an ice cream. And yes, I think you need some practise with boys, so yeah you need my help. Secondly can we just talk about what happened with your parents when I walked in?" I respond trying to keep the conversation flowing.

"What if you lose and you're not gonna make it tomorrow? What do I get for winning?"

Before I can open my mouth she starts speaking again.

"And no, I don't think I need help with my communication with boys, thanks but no thanks." she sings.

I sigh, "Whatever you say then" I say.

"What's in it for me then?" Hang on a sec, I'm confused, wasn't she the one who wanted to help me? I pull a really confused look on my face.

"Our bet. You know, you not coming tomorrow..." she clears out.

Oh that thing, confident girl to think she's actually gonna win. "Alright, if you win, which I highly doubt that you will, I will take you to prom. Deal?"

"What makes you think I'll go with you?" her eyes squint and and her voice sounds puzzled.

"You're already going with someone?" I ask because I kinda don't believe that.

"Maybe".

"Okay, I'm taking that as a no." she starts giggling to my statement.

She waves her hand at me to say whatever, "you know, we should probably start with the session, if you wanna pass" I nod to her suggestion. "Okay what do you wanna start with?" she asks as she starts taking all of her textbooks out.

"Umm, I don't know whatever you're comfortable with teaching me first" I shrug.

She gets her Maths textbook out from the big pile with the rest of the textbooks and starts searching though the right topic. I've never seen someone being so fascinated by Maths. Not that I want to puke, but mentally? Yes.

"What?" I just shake my head. Better not tell her, she already opened her mouth at me for calling her a nerd once.

She finally stops going through the pages and stops on the topic 'Adding and Subtracting Fractions' internal sigh. 3rd grade shit, what a way to go Dylan.
