Chapter 16.

My eyebrows furrowed as the wolves stared, expectantly, up at me. "No way. No matter how many pairs of adorable eyes you put on, I ain't getting on a wolf."

Before she shifted, Adrianne told me the safety dangers flying posed to one of the most important wolf packs: they could be ambushed, shot down, bombed, and all the other horrifying possibilities. So as a perfectly reasonable alternative, they were to run to the Moon Celebration. Run.

Liam and Blaze had a narrow wooden wagon attached to their flanks, weighed down with the clothes, snacks, and other essential needs we wanted to bring; and Fynn would lead the way (he wouldn't let anyone else do so, the stubborn wolf). Originally, it was planned that I would ride on James, but I was too scared. Hence my stubborn refusal.

Fynn glared at me, his impatience reflected in his bright brown orbs.

If I was a normal person, his glare would've made me pee my pants. But no, I was bonded to a wolf pack.

Eventually, the alpha gave up and sighed, rolling his eyes before turning around.

"Get on his back," said the voice.

What?

"Get on his back. Want me to spell it out for you?"

I stay silent.

"G-E-T O-N H-I-S–"

FINE!

I stomped over to Fynn, as loudly as the snow permitted. All the other wolves stood on the side, confusion marring their adorable faces. So they weren't in the loop either, huh.

After a few tries, I finally hoisted myself onto Fynn's back which was at my chest level. With James' help, of course. He seemed the most connected to the alpha, so I wasn't surprised when he caught on the quickest.

When Fynn started to howl, I jumped in surprise and nearly fell off his back. Luckily, James was still there, as if anticipating my ungraceful-self needing help.

The other wolves joined the howl, and I felt manipulated joining the beautifully serene sound, howling with my human voice. "Hwoooo."

I tightly clutched Fynn's thick fur as they began moving. As they ran faster, my hands' and thighs' hold grew in intensity. Multiple times, I was worried I'd fly away due to the high speeds they were moving at.

My head buried itself into Fynn's neck, the sharp, cutting winds slicing my cheeks. I breathed in his cool pine smell, sighing in contentment. I could feel Fynn rumbling beneath me as if he too were happy at the newfound closeness we shared.

I shook the hopeful thought away. Definitely not. Fynn is the most aloof living animal, human or wolf, who surely doesn't have any feelings.

As the hours went by, the wolves didn't show any sign of stopping or tiring. They continued marking their paws in the fresh snow as we ran towards the east.

I continued to lie on Fynn's back, eventually falling asleep from basking in his warmth and sweet pine smell.

A/N:

Thank you so much for 1K reads, guys! I'm so sorry for the second consecutive late update, but I had writer's block all week. I only wrote this chapter today, so my apologies for any mistakes (feel free to comment on them though, and I'll do what I can to fix it [but don't be mean]).

This chapter's a bit shorter, but I couldn't find the purpose of lengthening it to include the Moon Celebration. I'd like to stretch the actual celebration into a few chapters. Be prepared!

For the caring people who wanted to know how my tests went, they went well! I got a surprisingly good score on maths (the teacher also might've given me some extra marks by accident, but shhhh!), not so good on computer science (but everyone did bad cause the questions sucked ass), and think I did really well on business (still have to get the grade back).

QOTC: Tell me something about yourself.

I apparently have very sweet blood. I mean, VERY sweet. I stood outside for 10-15 minutes on Tuesday, and I got over 35 mosquito bites on my legs and arms (I was wearing shorts and a shirt). I also got hit on my collarbone during fencing yesterday, so now it hurts when I touch it. I can't find a bruise and it doesn't seem broken/fractured, but it sure as hell hurts!

Thank you for all the support, love y'all.

I might not be able to post next Saturday (25 June), cause I'm travelling, but I'll try my best to get Chapter 17 out asap. I thought I'd give a heads up.
