I  made my way to my desk and put down my bag. Still thinking about what happened at the coffee shop, I tried to focus on the upcoming lesson I had to teach.

"I'm so sorry for being late guys, but I got held up." I looked over to see Marc with a smile on his face, getting out his book.

I slightly shock my head and took out my books. I saw that there was a pile of papers on my desk with the class's homework.

"Thanks to everyone who handed in there essays. I will look at them and give them back to you in a couple of days. I won't mark them as this was your first homework."

I put the papers in my bag and started the lesson.

Looking at my watch I saw that there were only 10 minutes left so I told the class to start with their homework.

"Now please start with exercise 4 on page 29 till the bell rings. This will also be your homework." I sat down on my chair and pulled out my phone. I had a text from Ella reminding me of our shopping date this afternoon. I was in the middle of answering her when the bell rang.

"See you tomorrow guys!"

I looked back to my phone, typing a quick reply to my best friend when I heard someone cough. No longer paying attention to what I was typing, I looked up from my phone to see Marc standing in front of my desk. What does he want now? After our encounter this morning, I was hoping that we wouldn't have any other awkward moments for a while, but sadly, I was wrong. I don't know why but I don't feel comfortable around him. His presence makes me nervous and I already know that with him, this is going to be a long year...

"Is everything okay Mr. Brown?" Looking into his eyes, I saw that his smirk reached them. I hate to admit it, but he was good looking. His eyes were a dark brown, matching the color of his hair, which has a slight golden shimmer to it.

"I just wanted to hand in my essay. You know since I got held up this morning I couldn't hand it in before class." He sent a wink in my direction and reached into his bag. He pulled out a paper and put it down on top of the other essays. I looked at it and saw, that he only wrote about half a page.

"I know I told you that you didn't have to write 5 pages, but I'm afraid half a page is a bit too less Mr. Brown."

His answer was typical for him. "Well, good for me that you won't mark the essay, right?" He let out a small laugh and made his way to the door.

I couldn't believe this. His ego is as big as the moon and I knew that I, as his teacher, had to be stricter towards him. I'm not usually the type to start an argument, I'm way too shy for that, but right now I couldn't stop myself. Why is he making me feel so frustrated all the time'?

"Marc!"

He turned around when he heard me calling out his name and looked at me.

"So we're on first name basis now Mae?" Idiot.

"Quit the attitude or I'll give you a detention! I want you to rewrite your essay and hand it in tomorrow before class. And believe me, I will mark your paper." After saying that, I picked up my bag and rushed past him towards the teacher's room.

Sighing I sat down on an empty chair across from Marie.

"What's wrong with you? Wait, don't answer, it's a boy isn't it?" She looked at me with big eyes. "I can sense it."

Amused by her excitement I rolled my eyes.

"If you call trouble with a student 'boy problems' then yeah, it's a boy."

With a knowing look on her face, Marie started again. "Oh no, what did Marc do now?"

"He's just so.. ugh. I don't know. One minute he buys me a coffee and the next his arrogant attitude is back " Sighing again, I closed my eyes and rested my head in my neck.

"Wait, he bought you a coffee? When did that happen? And why? How? Mae answer me!"

"It was nothing."

"Well, if it was nothing then why are you so frustrated because of it?" She got me. It was nothing, but I kept thinking back to how Marc actually acted nice this morning at the coffee shop. He could've just ignored me, but no, he bought me my coffee. Which reminds me, I had to pay him back.

"Hello, earth to Mae!" Just now I noticed Marie snapping her fingers in front of my face

"Sorry, I was just."

"Thinking about Marcy- boy. Be careful with this Mae..."

"What?"

"Just saying. But keep in mind that you will have to see him again last period. PE class." With that she winked at me and stood up.

Great, I totally forgot that I had to help her with her senor PE class today. With Marc in it...

During the morning, I tried to think of a way to give Marc back his money for my coffee. If I would just give it to him in class, I'm sure he wouldn't take it and I guess the other students would wonder why I would give one of my students money. But I had an idea. I

I made my way to the secretary who I met when I introduced myself to Mr. Jefferson.

"Good morning!"

"Good morning sweetheart! What can I do for you?"

"I was wondering if you could give me the locker number of a student."

"Sure, but why do you need it?" Ops, I didn't think of a reason why I would need a student's locker number. "Uhm.. he forgot his book in class and I just wanted to return it." Wow, Mae, that is probably the dumbest reason ever.

"Okay." The older woman opened a drawer and got out a sheet of paper. After telling her the name, she gave me Marc's locker number and his combination. "Wouldn't make much sense if you only knew which locker belongs to him and not his combination, would it?" She wrote down a couple of numbers on a piece of paper and gave it to me.

"Thank you so much!" Smiling at her, I made my way out to the hallway. All students were in the classrooms. It didn't take me long to find Marc's locker. I put in the combination and opened the door. Feeling like a creep, I looked at what was inside. Some books, some sport clothes and a lot of boring stuff. On the inner side of the locker door, there were some photos. After making sure that there was still no one in the hallway, I stole a glance at the first photo. It showed Marc and two other guys in their soccer jerseys. All three of them were smiling at the camera. I must admit, Marc looked pretty good in his sport outfit. The next picture showed a little girl sitting on a swing in a garden. She was grinning towards the camera. Looking closer I could see that she was missing some teeth. She looked really cute in her pink dress. The last photo showed Marc and the little girl on the beach. Marc was only wearing swimming trunks, and damn, he was fit. He was kneeling down and hugging the little girl. They looked really cute together. Maybe it's his sister?

Gosh, snap out of it Mae! Remembering what I was here for, I took the white envelope out of my bag that I prepared in the teacher's room some minutes ago. I had put a five dollar bill inside of it and a little note. It said "Told you I can pay for my own drink;) – Mae"

I had no idea why I signed with my first name. I quickly put the envelope on top of the books in the locker and closed the locker. After that, I made my way back to the office and gave back the key when the bell rang. Great, only one more hour till PE class...
