Five minutes later, we pull up to my parents' house. They did not know I was coming, so I was a bit nervous showing up at their house with Marc. I know that they like him and I'm pretty sure my mom has noticed that I'm closer to him any of my other students.

"Let's do this." I say, more to myself, while I turn off the car.

"You nervous?" Marc asks from the passenger seat.

"I'm showing up at my parents' house with my student. Of course I'm nervous." I answer while fiddling with my hands. "Okay, let's go."

We get the two boxes from the trunk of my car and make our way to the front door. Before either of us can ring the doorbell, the door swings open, revealing my mom. She smiles at us.

"I saw your car pulling up. Come on in guys. Hi Marc! Are you hungry? You two must come straight from school. I made lasagna, it's still warm. Lilly's still eating in the dining room, you can join her."

I just look at my mom and try to comprehend what she just said. She has always been a fast talker, but this was too much, even for me.

I look at Marc and give him an apologetic look, but he just smiles at me and shrugs his shoulders.

"Easy, mom. Can you let us in first?"

"Oh, of course, come in you two." She steps aside and turns around. "Lilly, your sister's here!"

I heard rumbling coming from the dining room and a second later, Lilly comes running towards me with her fork in her hand. "Lilly, stop running with your fork!" I remind her.

Her eyes wander form me to the boy standing next to me.

"Marc!" She screams and runs over to him. He was still holding the box in his hands, but Lilly didn't care and swung her arms around his legs. "Can we have another water fight?"

"Hey Lilly! Long time no see." Marc says while picking my little sister up into his arms.

"But I was at your house a couple days ago." Lilly giggles.

"Come on, I heard your mom made lasagna and I'm very hungry!" Marc says and starts walking towards the dining room. Laughing, I followed them.

Twenty minutes and some silly conversations between Lilly and Marc later, we all had an empty plate in front of us.

"You can put the boxes into the garage, I'll take them to work with me tomorrow." Mom says while picking up our plates.

"I can do that, it's okay." Marc says while getting up from his chair.

"Oh, it's okay."

"Are you going to stay and play with me?" Lilly says while giving Marc puppy eyes.

"We're actually just here to drop off mom's boxes, Lil." I say. Her face changes and she gives me a pouty look.

"How about on Sunday I bring Emma so you can hang out with her as well?" Marc say and I cannot believe how great he is with the girls.

"Yes!" Lilly jumps up from her chair and goes over to Marc to hug him. "We can go into the pool!"

"We'll see about that, Lilly." I try to calm her down. "We have homecoming on Saturday and I have to chaperone the dance. I don't know when I'll be home or when Marc will be home so I don't know if we'll have enough energy to have a pool party with you and Emma the next day." I don't want to make her sad, but I honestly don't know if I'll be in the mood for a pool party the next day.

I pick up my glass of water and take a sip.

"Yeah, I don't know if your sister is going to get much sleep that night." Marc says and winks at me.

I choke on my water and start coughing while giving Marc a wide-eyed look.

He just laughs at me and gets up from his chair.

"Why is Mae not getting much sleep? Mom says it's not healthy to not sleep enough." Lilly says.

"Don't worry Lil, I will definitely get enough sleep." I assure her.

Lilly runs out of the room and as Marc and I follow her, his leans down to me and whispers in my ear. "We'll see."

Lilly runs out of the room and leaves me alone with Marc.

"So..." I say.

"So..." Marc imitates me while coming over to me. He places his hands on my waist. "You're a chaperone at the dance, right?"

"Yep." I say and look up into his eyes.

"So, if I would ask you to go to the dance with me right now, what would you say?"

I let out a small laugh. "Well, I would say that I am a chaperone and still your teacher. Which means I don't think I can be your date to the dance."

"Wohh.... I didn't want you to be my date."

My smile fades from my face. "Oh.. I thought-" I turn my face away from him and am about to take a step back when he grabs my wrist.

"I'm only joking, Mae. Come here." He pulls me back into his arms and wraps them around me. I feel him putting his chin on top of my head. "I would love to have you as my date at the dance. I mean... I know we can't but... yeah."

We stay like this, arm in arm. I don't know how much time passed, but after a while, Marc speaks up again and I can feel his lips moving against my hair.

"But you know... I would love to see you in a beautiful dress. And dance with you...." He mumbles.

"I know, me too." I say. Marc sighs and lets me go.

"I gotta get home, I promised my mom to help her clear out the garage."

"Ok, I'm gonna drop you off." I say

We make our way towards the front door when my mom appears in the hallway. "Have you invited him yet?"

I turn around and roll my eyes at my mom. "No mom, I haven't."

"Oh, you were going to invite me to something?" Marc says and puts his arm around me.

I look at my mom, unsure of how she would react to this. Even though it was just a simple touch, she knows that he is my student.

"I told my daughter to invite you to the BBQ we're having next week. Just some family friends and relatives we haven't seen in a while. You can bring Emma too, if you want."

"I would love to come Miss Hemmings."

"Oh, call me Laura."

"Well, tahnk you for the invite, Laura. I'll be there."

My mom gives us a smile and returns to the kitchen.

"Come on, let's go." I say.

Together, we make our way to my car.
