PROLOGUE

October 31, 2001, 12.30 PM

"But bhaiya, this is the gift; we were dying for.......And when The Almighty has showered his blessings we should only accept this?" Om requested to his elder brother Vyom seeking for his acceptance.

"What rubbish you are talking, Om? You made that big decision in the early morning only. I am your elder brother and you didn't even need to consult me earlier about such a highly sensitive matter!" Furious Vyom shouted and continued...

Both of them were adamant with their stands. Soma, sitting just beside Om, probably knew what would be the result of this conversation. Om had never gone off the line drawn by his elder brother. He was pretty hopeful of the nod of his elder brother, But Soma was thinking just opposite of it. She was happy for the output of this conversation, be it in her favor or against, because in both the situations the misconception of one of them, hers or Om's, would be uprooted. Albeit she was not able to hear the distant one but the changing facial expressions of Om were unmasking the direction of their conversation. Her husband was trying his best to make his elder brother understand his point of view but Vyom was already too preoccupied with his own cynic thoughts.

And Om let him ramble on until latter drove him to the verge of the abyss where Om interrupted him in his broken voice, sore throat, "But bhaiya, will you listen to me?........

Can you imagine...Soma, whenever she is at home, watches only nursery rhymes in her leisure time?"

"Do you think it's unnatural? We intentionally land on rhymes for our children." Vyom replied in a plain tone.

"For our children brother; not for us, that too, for all the time; a huge difference there is." The behavioral changes start with the habits and the changing habits were now noticeable in Soma.

"I know." "Don't you think that you should go on trips to our relatives for a change? This will rejuvenate you both."

Another way to mold the conversation and dilute the matter; But this was the judgment day. Om had already decided what to do. He would have been grateful if his elder brother had accepted the same.

Om replied firmly, "No. I don't think so."

Vyom was agitated now, "Why?"

"It is not necessary to answer this WHY."

"Your stubborn behavior always drives me crazy Om. Listen, I am suggesting you, wait for some more time." Vyom was now bitter.

"Brother! Waiting time will not serve the purpose, it can't. I have to act before it's too late. We both, Soma and I, earlier the social animals, are falling in love with desolation. I observe Soma enjoying while crying; and more or less, me too. At this stage, I am able to analyze all these but..." His normal pitched voice turned into whispers, "In the coming days; I know, won't be. We might achieve the state of oneness with these feelings." And a silence, Om gazing at the ceiling....., a pause of five seconds and he shook his head and said, "I have to act before that. I can't wait now."

Om had once visited a psychologist with his senile relative, where he underlined the sentence of the doctor, "An observant mind always puts a strong check..... actually prevents a person to enter the state of depression. But it gradually becomes negligent when the depression knocks round the clock." And he was realizing these days that how difficult it really was to become observant.

"You are showing again the stubborn behavior, in the disguise of depression!" Vyom commented.

"Here you are; my behavior always counts to you but not my feelings or the expectations. They seem skeptical to you. Isn't it?" Om was not in the mood to surrender. But he was now damn sure that Vyom was not going to accept his decision.

"Of course, they do count." his brother softened himself. "Be brave my brother. In fact, I have a way out of all your problems and I just want to share it with you. I already have two daughters and then Sanju, my son. If you are so desperate, I can assure you that I can give you Sanju's first....."

The more Vyom talked about the way out, the more his brother's eyebrows furrowed, the more his face became incandescent... and he burst finally.

"Enough is enough!" Om freaked on the phone.

Vyom's ears went numb before he could complete his way out.

On hearing the bizarre solution, Om felt like someone had thrown boiling water in his ears. His heart pumped almost all the blood to his upper part making it red in the rage. "Have you gone insane? You don't know what bullshit you're talking and what misery your way out may cause in the long term. He is your child. For God sake, please spare him; here at least. Either you aren't aware of the consequences or just pretending to be." He screamed.

Vyom managed to be in the veneer of calm, "I know the after effects. But this was only because I am concerned to you." he suspected now that Om would not step into his boat. He might have had made up his mind.

"I know how much you are. Well......"

"Om, listen to me first." Vyom used his authoritative approach to interrupt his brother. But his brother gave a damn to his words. Om remained uninterrupted.

"Well, that was your view and I don't agree at all. I am not going to live life as it is. By God's grace, I am changing my fate...NOW." His tone was decisive and still harsh.

"Don't act like a fool. Put a limit to your emotions Om."

"I won't." Om opened a front against his brother.

"This will take us only farther."

"It depends on how you react." a declared war.

I am warning you not to go that way and if you ignore my warning then....."

"I just want to tell you that I haven't suspended my critical faculties while making such a big decision and no one can stop me going that way. After all, this is the question of our life. But you are not in a mood to comprehend brother." Om was now once again louder and harsher than he intended.

Vyom's veneer was now burnt in his rage. "Go to hell with your problem, solution and with your wife. Don't even dare to call me in the future. You are none to me from now on. I've no sibling from this very moment. This is the end of this relation then." he literally shouted and disconnected the call of his younger brother.

The base of a relationship is Love. This love eliminates all the pros and cons and all the complexities of a relation. If any relation is not capable to understand your emotions and actually lacks in love, it is destined to be ended. Death is just a matter of time. Today Om realized that actually, the love content was missing in his blood relation. As a matter of fact, the cost of the relation to make alive was nothing but his life. He let the conversation mature so that all his dubiety could come to an end and it finally came. Om wasn't shocked at his elder brother as if he had already known the result of their flowing arguments and so was Soma. He accepted it. But deep down in his subconscious he also knew that the very thin string of relationship between the two brothers which was already stretched to its limits was broken that day with the END of call.
