"Who's her?" I ask softly, small tears rolling down my cheeks. My mate is mute... I can't believe it. Damn hormones are making me cry.

Kronos extended his hand to my cheek, before wiping more tears away. His touch caused a tingle, making me smile at his warmth. This proves we're really mates. Rain was howling, overjoyed with being touched by our mate. He then continued to write on the notepad's page, and wrote, 'My mother'

His mother? Isn't that Luna Gaia? If my memory serves me right, she was the sweetest Luna I remembered. The pack only grew strong and powerful under her rule alongside the Alpha.

"Why would she do such a thing?" I ask, growing worried.

This time though, he didn't answer. Rather, based on his body language, he didn't want to. Kronos seemed slumped, his shoulders leaned over in shame. But why? After a series of attempts, Kronos still refused to answer my questions about his mom. Deciding that it was useless and that I would probably be doing more harm than good, I changed the subject into getting to know my mate more.

"Did you chose to be mute or is it because your mother did something?"

He quickly wrote, "She did something."

I nod, asking, "What's your favorite color? Mine is actually not a color, it's a shade. It's black."

He gave a small grin, and wrote, 'White.'

Gosh, his smile is so adorable.

"Age?" I asked, curious.

He replied in writing with, '22.'

The rest of the evening played out like that, and I absolutely loved it. Besides Rain being horny, everything was perfect. He was perfect. I never thought having a mate was this fun and I wished it would never end.

Or so I thought.

***

That evening, I joined the pack dinner. I sat in the seat next to Kronos, while there were still glances of surprise from pack members, they still welcomed me with open arms. I appreciated it, but the one thing I didn't appreciate was the glares from a certain she-wolf.

If my memory was correct, her name was Macy. She used to date Kronos, from what I've heard. Their relationship lasted for about 25 minutes, but it was that easy for her to cling herself to him.

Was she jealous? She could be, but I can't assume without asking. I could see her whispering to another pack member of how ugly I was and how I wasn't qualified to sit next to Kronos. Seriously?

Having enough of the disrespect, my wolf wanted to know why this she-wolf was glaring at us before she teared her throat out.

"Do we have a problem Macy?" I demand, my authority already ringing across the room.

All of the pack members conversations stopped at my question, making the table dead silent. You can almost hear a pin drop. Their heads turned to Macy, engaged into what was happening.

Macy's glare softened, before her eyes narrowed even further. "No, Luna. Everything is just peachy," she seethed out, her teeth gritted in annoyance.

Disregarding her once again disrespect, I was determined to know what was bothering her. Although it's only my first day back, word spread quickly that Kronos found his mate. As his Luna, and especially a motherly figure to the pack, it's my job to take care of the pack members. "Is that so? Then would you like to explain why you keep glaring at me?" I ask, my hand under my chin.

Honestly, I just wanted to spend time with Kronos alone some more and not assume duties of being a Luna right away, but it changed overnight just like that.

Macy seemed to snap, because she suddenly stood up from her chair and slammed her hands onto the table. Poor table. What did it do to her?

"I keep glaring at you because you don't deserve to be Luna! You pop out of nowhere and pace yourself around the pack house like it's your own goddamn kingdom!"

I frowned, "Excuse me?"

Her eye twitched, "Exactly as I said it! Do you even know why the Alpha is mute? Were you even there when he needed you most? Huh? Or are you that oblivious to what's going around you?"

My eyes widened, this was no jealous she-wolf. She was worried about her Alpha being in the right hands. The words died on my tongue when I attempted to speak, not knowing what to say. I didn't have the answers, nor did I have the knowledge of what actually happened to my mate besides the fact that it had something to do with his mother. She was right in some aspects but I will not tolerate her words.

How dare she.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is our future Luna. This is who we're laying our lives down with and entrusting the pack with. If it were up to me, I'm more qualified to be Luna. She doesn't even know a thing about our al-"

Slam!

The table shook as a bang to the table cut Macy's words, her words dissolving as if it were never there. I snapped my head back to Kronos's direction, seeing his eyes pitch black. Not in arousal, but in anger. His wolf was trying to come out, wanting to protect his mate.

I reached out and ran my hands along his arms, trying to calm him down. Sparks ignited between us, making my body fizzle with warmth. He flinched a bit when I touched him, but calmed down.

He clenched his jaw until his eyes fogged over. I knew by then he was using mind link. By the looks of Macy's bitting the bottom of the lip with her eyes fogged over as well, he was talking to her.

Macy looks down in shame, before apologizing to me. I accepted it, but her words were forever ringing in my head.

Dinner was silent and awkward, which made me finish eating quickly before going back upstairs into my room. I was heart broken, and even though I understood Kronos reasoning, I wanted to help him.

I'm so useless.

Rain whined in my head, 'Don't bring yourself down like that girl. He will tell us eventually.'

I nodded curtly, but didn't respond.

A knock on my door made me jump, before I composed myself and made myself presentable. Opening the door, I see Kronos with a concerned gaze.

I allowed him in, and asked, "Something you need? Do you want me to sleep with you?" I blushed at my words. Again, I need to filter myself. This is embarrassing.

Rain didn't seem to disagree though as she started shaking her ass again since she wanted to be marked and mated with.

Kronos blushed but he shook his head, and temptly caressed my cheek. Almost as if to say, 'Are you okay?'

Giving a half smile, I reply smoothly, "I'm fine, thank you for coming to see me and for what you did back there. I was going to say something, but you beat me to it."

I thought he would leave right after but he held a hand-picked rose he hid behind him and offered it to me. My eyes widened in surprise, my heart clenched tight. I could see that he hurt his hand a little since roses have thorns. It seems like he's never picked flowers before.

"Is that for me?" He nodded, rubbing the back of his head shyly.

Overjoyed, I abruptly kissed him on the cheek. Kronos froze at the direct contact but had a small blush form on his cheeks, making me giggle. He is so adorable.

He took out his notepad, and started writing fast. Turning it over, it said, 'I will tell you someday, but not now. I'm sorry.'

I smiled sheepishly, "It's okay. You don't have to apologize. Tell me when you're ready."

Kronos exited my room after that, but it was so strange. Why wouldn't he want me to sleep next to him? Usually, mates would mark each other on the first day they meet. However, Kronos was different. He kept me at a arm length distance, as if cautious of me.

The real question was, what did Luna Gaia do to make my mate mute?
